blackcanary had been curled up in her nest, trying to get a few winks of sleep between dusk and dawn, when half the damn clan decided to invite themselves into the warriors den. applegaze did belong there - but pumpkinpatch out to have been with her children, and lighteningpaw should be in the apprentices den.

the ivory feline grunted as she sat up in her nest, eyeing the group who seemed to be giggling like a pack of school girls. "can you guys just let him, and the rest of us, sleep?" she grumbled, clearly tired.

"you both ought to come." came the voice of the warrior as she slipped halfway into the den, cool gaze regarding the toms with a sort of encouragement. nodding her head over her shoulder, motioning to where the patrol ought to be gathering, she glanced back at them. "get some fresh air, stretch your legs."

she wasn't terribly older than either of them, only twenty-nine months old. still, there was this instructor air to her. some felines were parental, others authoritative, and blackcanary was a teacher by nature. she desired little success for herself, no want for leadership or anything of the sort. she only wanted to see others succeed - even if she came across as a little difficult or controlling.

it was sunhigh. a good lot of the clan had returned to camp to grab a bite to eat and plot out what they'd be doing with the latter half of their day, mumbling about patrols and hunting and rendezvous in some quiet spot of the territory.

blackcanary had consumed a relatively small mouse, never one for a large appetite, and rolled her head on her shoulders until a small pop emitted from her. standing up and giving a few quick licks of her chest, blackcanary stood up, legs carrying her towards the entrance. "border patrol by the riverclan border." she called out, glancing around. hopefully, a few of these kids would volunteer.

blackcanary shot the rogue an approving smile, giving a small bob of her head in understanding at her words. she could hunt, fight - they needed people who could do that, now more than ever, with the war and the upcoming leaf bare. someone young, healthy, would be good among the ranks.

she tossed a glance over her shoulder, as if hoping to see her leader materialize, and glanced at lighteningpaw. "this isn't time for your personal vendettas, hun. save it for the battlefield." she said, her voice a little softer, but firm. she understood the girls anger - but there was a time and a place for it and she ought to learn it. the decision was foreststars, and blackcanary couldn't help but hope the fem would give this girl a chance.

glancing back to the stranger, she smiled ever so slightly. "that's wonderful. your name, though?" she inquired, hoping to attain the information, well aware that her previous request likely got lost among the talking.

heading the relatively small patrol was the twenty-nine-month-old warrior. not especially strong or beautiful, blackcanary fell just above average on the spectrum, the kind of girl that made most look more-than-average besides. but she was lovely enough on her own, never a vain creature. no, she cared more about working, teaching, doing her job and getting through life as some insignificant pawn on the chessboard.

the warrior walked along the riverclan border at a slow, easy trot, the first of the few. she sent a few glances over the border, naturally curious if she'd see any of her allies, but more focused on marking the borders than making friends.
