HOPS INTO THIS THREAD WITH WAY TOO MUCH EXCITMENT.
I HEARD MUSICALS AND NOW I MUST SHARE MY FAVORITES I AM SO SORRY GUYS LMAO. I AM TRASH.
I've been acting for like 8 years now + LOVE to go to Broadway and local productions in my town so here's some of my personal favorites!
Urinetown the Musical (despite the odd name) is SERIOUSLY good I swear. super under-rated but hilarious! the whole plot centers around the idea of having to pay to use the bathroom, and anyone who can't afford to is arrested and sent away to never be seen again. the whole story focuses around a city of poor people standing together to rebel against the greedy politicians. it's MUCH more than that, but you'd honestly have to watch it to get the whole idea behind it. I'm terrible at describing things.
25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee is a musical about a small group of kids that are competing in a spelling bee. It starts out super silly + has lots of funny jokes, but as the musical goes on it reveals each of the kid has very sad lives back home + are each going through their own struggles + feel pressured to win for their own reasons. This song here is what got me to look up the whole musical. This song is so heartbreaking. Both the jokes + sad parts make this play absolute perfection.
the musical The Book of Mormon now owns my heart and probably will forever because I'm so in love with it (as if it wasn't obvious with my profile, I am trash I am so sorry) but it was also written by the creators of South Park so it has a lot of swears, innapropriate language and things like that. But it's both funny + deep + the songs are extremely catchy. <3
Heathers is super popular right now but it's also super good. It does have some innapropirate stuff like The Book of Mormon (it seems to be a common theme in musicals, tbh) and it can be hard for some people to watch (including myself at parts) because handles heavy topics like suicide LOT throughout the play-- but the music + the plot is genuinely interesting! I deff recommend watching it on YouTube.
Wicked the Musical!!!! the first broadway show I ever went to see. You know the Wizard of Oz? Well it gives a very interesting + tragic backstory to the Wicked Witch of the West and reveals that not everything's so happy in the bright cheery as it looks like it is. I recommend this to all people starting out learning about musicals.
Hamilton. Another very popular musical currently (especially on feralfront). I actually have not seen it myself, but I love the soundtrack + have heard it's very good.
aaaaaand Little Shop of Horrors. I was in this place during middleschool and oh boy it's brilliant. It was quite possibly one of my favorite musicals to be in. It's a dark comedy + the songs are so catchy. It's a movie as well, but the ending to the musical is different so that's interesting to note.
