Wasppaw of Skyclan

Wasppaw trotted along the border, his nose practically to the ground, as he searched for any sign of a prey trail. It was a slightly foggy leaf-bare afternoon, but surprisingly, the sun was out and shinning with unusual strength for winter time. He struggled to stifle a yawn, the sun's warmth on his back nearly putting him to sleep on his paws. It had been quite the busy few days, what with his new siblings being born. Seven new mouths to feed meant Wasppaw going out and volunteering for as many hunting patrols as possible. Unfortunately, prey was scarce, and it was becoming harder and harder to find something to eat. His belly rumbled softly beneath his thick coat, and the apprentice paused in his steps. Suddenly, he wondered when was the last time he had eaten...
Looking around at the calm, empty four-trees, Wasppaw felt a small smile play on his maw. Though leaf-bare truly was a hard time for the clans, there was beauty in the winter silence with the lack of prey scuffling and bird chirping. Like the whole world was waiting to hear what you had to say.

Cant see? Oh, well, Wasppaw had suspected. Her eyes were pale pools hidden behind a thick barrier of ice, fogged and blocking out anything from coming in, whether it be hunting cats or the sun's light itself. Wasppaw immediately felt a brotherly sense of concern, then, for the she-cat he barely knew. What if she tilted her head to the sky, unable to see said sun, and unknowingly burned her optics? She may not be able to see, but ice could still crack! Still, he kept that worry down for another day as he padded over, large paws quiet against the soft crunch of the frosty ground. Sitting beside Poppypaw, Wasppaw smiled kindly at the former kitty-pet - though he was aware she couldn't see that, so he said, "Cloud, wasn't it? Its nice to meet you - im Wasppaw, the gruff male is Audanine, you already know Poppypaw and the silent female is called Foxdancer -" Wasppaw was raised to introduce oneself first before anything, even with enemies and trespassers, Wasppaw would uphold that lesson.
Speaking of enemies, Wasppaw's gentle nature, as many knew by now, was one that could not find any aggression towards anyone. Even a kitty-pet, which he'd heard was an insult, spat out like the garbage they're Two-legs produced. Wasppaw didn't really understand it. Sure those cats had a much easier life, but that didn't mean they should be stomped on for it. Especially not when they were turning their back to their old life in order to work. Wasppaw found it admirable.
"Audanine is right, its a hard path you've chosen, Miss Cloud, but extra paws aren't unappreciated, I'd assume," He glanced at Audanine and Foxdancer, hoping he wasn't stepping out of line with his words, before continuing, "Even if you cant fight or hunt, you could always help out with other things, like patrolling, gathering herbs, assisting the medicine cat - or maybe just taking care of kits" he smiled encouragingly, "And who knows, maybe you can learn some fighting moves or how to hunt! With some patience and always a heck of practice, who knows what you could do!" Glancing back at Audanine, Wasppaw added a bit more sheepishly, "But -uh- thats probobly for Thrushstar to decide..."

//When your hit with a brickload of muse holy crackers - skip all the way to below 'family' for the important crap haha

// Also yes, Wasp would most likely just hand over the catnip without hesitation to cricket haha
*hands over catnip* "Are you sick?"
"No."
"Oh okay well have a good day~"

It was a surprisingly warm afternoon. Wasppaw had been given a break after returning from his hunting patrol - he'd managed to catch a full on rabbit! What luck! - and was rather enjoying the easy time. Curled in a 'C' pose on his back, the apprentice shifted his shoulders to burrow deeper into his warm mossy nest. A moon or two had passed since he first became an apprentice, and still he found himself missing the old times, when he was a child. Curled up in his nest, sharing his warmth with little Stumpypaw and smothered pleasantly by white fur -
White fur soaked in red, red, red -

He snapped open his eyes, finding himself suddenly awake from his light nap. Just in time, too - he twitched an ear at the sound of Audanine's call just as he was calling everyone over. Rolling onto his belly, the young maine coon shook out his moss-flecked pelt before yawning quietly. The pull of sleep's warmth tugged at his paws as he padded out of the den. He couldn't help but shoot a longing glance back over at the den...so warm...before quickly shaking his head.
No! He was going to make a responsible warrior someday! One that would make mom proud!
He felt a mix of ...something fill his chest, but he pushed that to the back of his head.

Making his way over to the gathered cats, Wasppaw could tell this meeting was important - seeing as Thrushstar was here herself. Sitting himself down beside his mentor and grandfather, Wasppaw stiffed another yawn as he held himself high. Proper form. He took note then that that he still needed to ask his grandfather for fighting lessons. He had been avoiding those, but that needed to stop. One of these days, he'd have to fight-
White snow, soaked in red - here, there, pawprints, gone
Someday he'd be able to stop that from happening, surely...

But that would mean hurting someone.
The idea stung him, visibly making the cream apprentice flinch. Looking down at his paws, the apprentice thought then of the hundreds of lives he'd already taken in his short span of life. Prey lives, sure, but lives nonetheless. It was easier, he was shameful to admit, killing a mouse or a squirrel - a creature that seemed to know nothing besides run, eat and poop. Did they have families? He didn't know. But he did, and those families needed food.
And what then when they needed protection?
Would Wasppaw be able to sing his claws into a fellow feline's flesh? Sink his teeth into a fellow feline's neck? Knowing he was hurting them - knowing HE was making that choice, and not instinct? Not hunger? Could he do it?

Looking at Audanine, blurry with his nauseating thoughts, Wasppaw thought back to the medicine cat's last meeting. Herbs. He was teaching herbs. He needed an apprentice. Medicine cat apprentice...What would that be like?
No hunting
No mate.
No kits.
No training with other apprentices.

Solitude.

But also...

Hunting for herbs.
Healing Clan-mates
Helping bring kits into the world.
Protecting the other apprentices.

Family.

Snapping out of his thoughts in time to hear Audanine conclude his meeting with "-paw!", Wasppaw yawned once more - his thoughts may be a whirlwind, but his energy wasn't - and instinctively meowed, "Congradulations!" to whomever had been chosen. He banished his earlier thoughts - silly of him, to think that way, when he was a warrior's apprentice.
Still, it wasn't a bad daydream...

Wasppaw was about to get up and find whom, exactly, had been chosen and give them a happy pat on the back, when he heard something quite peculiar -
"#f4cb7f]congratulations, wasppaw."
"Congratulations. I'll miss training you."
"Gooooo Wasppaw!"

Wasppaw? But
wait
Blinking slowly, the apprentice stood like the worlds dumbest deer caught in the headlights. Is that a car or is it Jesus?
And then the car hit him.
Hard.

"M-me?! But -I - I mean I-" he stammered, more confused than nervous or in denial. Why him? Wasppaw looked up at Audanine and his neutral, placid expression. It was laced with stern expectancy. Wasppaw needed to give him an answer.
No - I need to feed my clan mates, I want a family someday -

Ill protect my family.

But the words didn't escape his mouth as a cold understanding suddenly struck him.
Would he? Would he actually hurt someone to protect another? Play Starclan and choose whose life mattered more? Those decisions would be made someday, too, should he be a medicine cat...but that path also involved a lot more saving...

Wasppaw looked helplessly at Tatteredpelt, seeing the poorly hidden sadness and hurt in the old tom's eyes. Wasppaw had been - still was - so happy to have been chosen as his grandfather's apprentice...but Wasppaw knew - he was rather sure Tatteredpelt knew, too - that Wasppaw would never be able to bring himself to harm someone. Not because of borders.
So, Wasppaw sucked in a breath, closed his eyes, and imagined the two paths set out for him, he stood at it's fork.

It was a surprisingly warm afternoon...

Looking up at Tatteredpelt, the apprentice bumped his head against the bigger tabby's shoulder and said, "Thank you, Grandfather, for everything you taught me -" with utmost sincerity, Wasppaw nodded, "Ill miss training under you, too..." before he moved his gaze to Audanine.

"I accept" he said, taking that first step down his new trail.
So corny.

Wasppaw's daily schedules of visiting the nursery had been interrupted after Snowbloom's death, in which he had spent as much time as possible avoiding the nursery. It was hard, knowing he wouldn't see his mother within the milk-scented den...The memories that were now more bitter than sweet...
But even with the underlying pain every time he visited the den, he still made time for visits. He had siblings to take care of still, after all! So, taking advantage of the break he was given from herb lessons, the young tabby tom picked up a mouse for Briarkit before making his way over to the kitten den. He smiled in anticipation of spending some good ol' time with his sister. She was growing bigger and bigger - she was almost his shoulder height, actually. Apprenticehood wasn't too far away for the spunky kitten...

Wasppaw blinked when he spotted the silver tabby molly known as Cloudfeather whom was also making her way to the den. She was a new mother, right? He remembered her birthing, and seeing the kittens scampering around. With one kitten grown up, seemed like five more replaced them~
Picking up his pace, the young tom caught up to her and smiled, "Good afternoon, Cloudfeather~ How are you?" he asked with a polite nod, talking through the mouse in his jaws.
