The blaring of the alarm was the first thing that Alex always heard in the morning. The second was the sound of her mother's car starting as she went to work. The light pouring in from the large open window in her room and onto her bed was enough for the dark-haired teenager to get up and start her day. Pulling her blankets back, Alex rose from her bed and instantly began her daily morning routine: taming her hair, eating breakfast, brushing her teeth, and putting on her makeup, which was always immaculate.
Ali easily slipped into a form-fitting maroon dress and a pair of black high heels, gently putting on a pearl necklace that could have easily been considered an elegant choker, but wasn't. After a few minutes of making sure she had everything she needed, Alex was on her way out of her house with her bag in one hand and her keys in the other. The teenager sat down in the car, slipping the key into the ignition and turning it. When her car failed to start, Alex furrowed her brows and tried again, only for it to stall and do the same. "Damn it," she mumbled.
Pulling out her phone as she got out of her car, she dialed her dad and set a rather quick pace as she made her way to the nearest bus stop. Going without an answer, the brunette shot off a text instead. My car wouldn't start. I'm taking the bus. Can you bring my car by the mechanic when you get off from work? xx
With a defeated sigh escaping her wine red lips, Alex dropped her phone into her bag and looked up from the sidewalk and toward the bus stop, noticing that only one person was sitting at the bench and waiting. For the love of everything good, don't talk to me. Alex sat down on the far side of the bench almost hesitantly, staring straight ahead as if the girl next to her wasn't even there. She'd seen her around school a few times, but honestly had no interest in talking to her, which wasn't uncommon for Alex at all.
-
Alex felt her breath leave her lungs as she listened to the girl beside her, Raelin, stutter through the greeting and polite question. She almost felt bad for her. Gently biting her cheek, she debated internally if she should respond. Why couldn't she just sit there and wait? Why did she have to talk? The high class girl let out a long breath before she looked at Raelin. Lying through her teeth, she responded."Raelin, hey. I'm doing good. How about you?" She gave the girl a small smile almost seemed to be reassuring. Despite Alex being a total bitch, she wasn't going to bite Raelin's head off, even though her morning had been shitty enough.
Fake words, fake smile. What's next?
Alex turned away from Raelin, tapping her manicured nails against the chilled bench. Come on, how much longer until the bus gets here? This was the first time that she'd spoke to Raelin. Actually, it was the first time that she's spoken to one of her peers kindly. Well, not the first time. She leaned back against the bench, pulling her phone out of her bag as it vibrated. Dad: I'll get it checked, don't worry. She turned her attention back to Raelin, watching her tremble slightly in her seat. She could tell how tense Raelin was and slightly hoped that the small, awkward conversation happening between the two would calm her down a bit.
-
Alex stayed silent for a few seconds. She wasn't sure how to approach what Raelin had said. Sighing softly, she finally spoke. "Raelin, are you okay?" The question was soft and gentle, asked as if she were genuinely worried. She was worried. Despite her reputation, she felt a small pang in her chest at her whispered words. Hesitantly, she asked another question. "Is someone at school bothering you?" If it were, Alex could promise that all hell would break loose. Yeah, she's never talked to Raelin before in her life, but she knew that she was a sweet girl and most certainly didn't deserve to be harassed by someone at school.
The dark-haired teen bit her lip at the barrage of questions she was sending toward Raelin. This was none of her business, but here she was, being typical Alex Harris and digging in things that she had no part in. Pinching the skin between her thumb and forefinger, Alex turned away once again. Why the hell am I acting like I know anything about her? I've never talked to her, but here I am, asking away like I have all of her trust.
At the sight of the bus turning around the corner, Alex sighed in relief. Finally, she'd be able to get away from this.. this.. whatever the hell it is. Conversation? Confession? Hell, she didn't know. She slipped behind her emotionless facade as the bus stopped in front of the bench. Grabbing her bag and standing, Alex turned toward Raelin with her back to the bus and gave the girl a small but genuine smile. "I'll see you at school, Raelin." With that, she turned on her heel and headed toward the open doors of the relatively empty bus. Immediately, she found an empty seat near the middle of the large vehicle and sat down, scooting toward the window. God, what have I gotten myself into?

bro same. this update has me confused, too. but yeah, i'm still interested.

Alex glanced away from the foggy window long enough to watch Raelin sink down into her seat, watching as the girl's brown curls got lower and lower until they were out of sight. She gently bit the inside of her cheek as she thought of ways to approach what was ahead of her for the day. She knew that she wanted to help Raelin. For whatever reason, she had no idea, but she wanted to. Well, that's a new improvement. The dark-haired rich girl brought herself out of her thoughts and turned her attention back to the window, running her fingertips over the condensation as she mindlessly wrote her name onto the glass.
It wasn't long before the bus came to a stop right in front of the high school and everyone started hurrying off and toward the entrance. However, Alex took her time getting off of the bus. Passing Raelin's seat, she noticed that it was empty. She must have been one of the first few off, Alex thought. As her heels struck against the concrete pavement, Alex let her thoughts drift from Raelin Sanchez. She would deal with the girl later on today, especially if she caught anyone giving her hell. Strange enough, she knew that if she caught anyone giving Raelin grief, she would go off. Simple as that.
She gave a few nods to some of the people that acknowledged her presence as she walked through the open front doors of the school. She easily made it through the crowd and to her locker as people moved out of her path. They knew that the rich girl had an attitude, and none of them wanted to deal with it this early in the morning. And despite her mishap with her car earlier, she would say that her mood was pretty dang good right now.
ooc; ahhh, sorry for the wait. my wifi went down because of a heavier set thunderstorm that passed through yesterday. -
Alex grabbed all of the books that she would need for her classes before lunch and stuffed them into her bag. She wouldn't have time to come back to her locker to switch them due to her classes being spread out across the school and taking almost all of the five minutes given to the students to reach their classes. The loud laughter erupting from a few people behind her caused her to gently close her locker and turn around to see what was happening. That's when she saw it. The papers ripped up and scattered on the floor, the people passing by and laughing, Raelin.
Anger seeped through Alex as she watched Raelin run toward the bathroom in an attempt to escape the onslaught. Quickly making her way toward the group of teenagers, Alex reached out and grabbed one of the people laughing, Johnathan Moore. Her perfectly manicured nails sank into his skin as she forced him to turn around and face her. "What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" Alex growled. Johnathan hissed and jerked his arm from her hand. "What's your problem, Alex? We're messing with her," Johnathan said, clearly challenging her. He knew that she was pissed off if the vein popping out in the middle of her forehead was anything to go by.
"Leave," she said, her fiery gaze turning toward the others that were onlooking the altercation. "Don't just stand there. Go!" Without anything else having to be said, they all turned on their heels and walked as quickly as they could to class, and more importantly, away from Alex Harris. Watching them leave, Alex paid no mind to the crowd that had gathered as she leaned down and grabbed the ripped pieces of paper off of the floor and threw them into the nearby trash bin.
Glaring at anyone that looked her way, Alex made her way to the bathroom that Raelin had ran into and slipped inside, locking the large door behind her. Taking in the sight of the girl leaning against the sink, Alex clenched her jaw before she spoke. "Raelin." Her voice was soft and gentle. She took a bold step toward Raelin before she spoke again. "Raelin, are you okay?" -
"You don't need to thank me," Alex said softly, watching as Raelin's eyes filled with tears. God, she doesn't deserve any of this bullshit. Alex parted her lips to speak once again, but was cut off by Rachel's harsh words slicing through the locked bathroom door. She watched as Raelin took a step toward the door, and Alex had to fight back the urge to reach out and grab her by her wrist and pull her away from it. She almost sighed in relief when Raelin stopped, but refocused on what was being said when she heard her name leave Erin's lips. She felt a small wave of anger wash through her once again.
Alex grabbed Raelin's wrist as gently as she could and pulled the girl away from the door before turning to look at her. "Stay right here. I'll be back. Lock the door," she said softly, almost whispering the words as she turned around and unlocked the door. She opened it enough for her to easily slip out without giving any of the three to get inside, and calmly closed the door behind her. Instantly, her palm latched onto Rachel's forearm, her grip rough enough to cause the teenager to hiss in pain and desperately try to yank her arm away from the rich girl.
With a small smirk, she tugged the girl along behind her as she walked down the hall and toward one of the empty storage closets, knowing that the other two were close behind. "Listen up, Rach, because we're about to have a little chat," she said smoothly as she pushed the girl into the storage room. It was large enough for the other two to walk inside, but Alex closed the door behind her and locked it without hesitation, not even giving them a chance. Glaring at her ex-friend, Alex crossed her arms and finally spoke after a few seconds of harsh silence. "Do you know what could happen to you if I told my father what you just said to Raelin?" She asked. Everyone in this small town of theirs knew the Chief of Police: Chris Harris, Alex's father.
Alex watched Rachel for any sort of reaction. Noticing none, she spoke once again. "Let's see," she tapped her chin enquisitively. "Telling someone to take their own life consistently for over a year could easily land you a prison sentence and permanently ruin your record. You wouldn't be able to get into college, let alone find a decent job. You'd probably end up living in the worst side of town or with your parents, and the best job you would most likely be able to land is a cook at Dave's Burgers."
Alex easily noticed that the girl was a bit shook up at what her actions could lead to if Alex let the information leak to her dad. "You wouldn't do that, Alex. That's too much work," Rachel said, confidence lacing her voice as if she actually knew Alex anymore. The dark-haired girl turned to face Rachel and tilted her head, sweetly coming back with, "Oh, but I would."
ooc:oh dear lord, I had no idea how satisfying this would be. -
The look of intimidation on Rachel's face was enough for Alex. Leaving the conversation as it was, she turned on her heel and exited the storage closet, ignoring the looks she received from Erin and Georgina as she walked pass them. After a small show of her confidence in front of Raelin's group of tormentors, she walked a faster toward the locked bathroom. I hope she listened and locked it. I don't want to come back to some assholes ganging up on her. The thought caused her to hesitate slightly as she reached the door. She gently rapped her knuckles against the wooden door and grimaced as the bell to head to class rang.
"Raelin, it's okay. It's Alex," she said, her voice loud enough for Raelin to hear her through the door, but gentle enough that the girl wouldn't feel somewhat threatened. She listened closely for the soft click of the lock turning, but it never reached her ears. Either she hadn't heard the lock turn or Raelin was having another panic attack. Alex knocked on the door a bit harder, hoping that the sound would pry Raelin from deadly thoughts. "Raelin, open the door. Please."
The tardy bell rang, and Alex grimaced again. There goes my record of being on time. Alex winced at the selfish thought as it ran through her brain and instantly shoved it to the bottom of her list of things she had to worry about. This was number one. Raelin was the first thing on that list right now. Alex let her head rest against the hard, wooden door. At the sound of heels clicking against the tile, the rich teenager looked up and almost whimpered in relief at the sight of her English teacher. "Mrs. Ramero, can you unlock the bathroom, please?" She asked sweetly. Alex knew that the woman had a small sweet spot for her and wouldn't report her for being late to class. "Sure thing, Alex."
The woman reached for her keys and unlocked the door before telling Alex to hurry and get to class. "Yes, Mrs. Ramero." The dark-haired teenager walked into the bathroom, gently closing the door behind her as she walked over to Raelin and knelt down in front of her the best she could in her dress. She placed her hand on Raelin's knee and squeezed it softly. "Hey, I'm here. Breathe." -
Alex returned Raelin's small smile and she squeezed the girl's knee once again. She was pleased that Raelin seemed to be calming down. The poor girl looked like she was near passing out when she first got there. Raelin's voice brought herself out of her thoughts and she listened closely to what Raelin was saying. The dark-haired teenager stayed quiet for a few seconds as if she were deciding how to respond before she nodded. "Tell me if they bother you again. I'll handle it." Alex paused, biting her cheek gently. With a small sigh, she spoke up once again. "They shouldn't mess with you for a while."
As Alex's worry for Raelin slowly went down, she began to realize how restricted her movement was due to her dress and nearly regretted wearing the maroon number. Slowly, she eased herself completely down onto the tile floor beside Raelin. She closed her dark eyes and leaned her head back against the cool wall. She breathed deeply for a few minutes as she let the silence sink in around the two teenagers. Finally. A sense of calm. The girl slowly opened her eyes and stared at the bland walls of the restroom.
Alex let her head to lazily roll so she could look at Raelin. A small grin appeared on her face. "I may have threatened them with the fact that my dad is the Chief of Police and that they could easily get prison time," she said, seemingly proud of herself.
ooc: there was another storm and my wifi got cut out again. texas weather is so unpredictable, i swear.
