the screaming of an all too familiar name burned into the warriors mind sent her running for the source of the sound. she saw the monster at the last moment, saw her friend drop seemingly lifeless, leaving her confused and mortified.

dovetail hovered over the toms body, and freckleface immediately moved to the warriors side, sniffing at him, shocked to find him alive. "foxtrot?" she asked, tears beginning to form and voice cracking. she moves to nudge the tom gently. "come on, foxtrot. you're alright, come on."

    [low muse]

the feline turned to the other fem. for once, freckleface couldn't be some pillar of strength. she couldn't be strong, she couldn't suck up her fear and concern. for once, she acted her age, a girl who'd only ever seen one new-leaf, who'd been orphaned not many moons after birth.

"y-yes. he needs help, medical help. starclans help." she said quietly, voice cracking as she stared down t her friend, her first friend, and shifted to bury her nose in his fur.

i don't want to offend spacent or anything by having her just like assume leader? but like she's been low-key having joiners come to camp until they can "talk to maple" so i might just do that for a while
i messaged staff about the situation to see if anything could be done but they said to give it another week or two before anyone moves to replace them. wc has gone through so many leaders lately, i feel like they need to just have one leader for a while. hopefully spacent comes back on, i sent them a message to just check in if/when they do come back on
if they eventually don't come back by the time staff decides the situation is too bad, i do thing it could be cute to have an ic election. there's literally so many kits though, so i'd be 100% on board with a kit leader

the warrior chuckled at the inquiry and gave a reluctant bob of her head. "a few rabbits. nothing too great though - i swear, i could feed all of the apprentices den myself during greenleaf, but i can hardly even catch enough to feed some of the kits in this weather. i pray starclan will bring us better hunting with time." she confessed, green eyes trailing up to the stars before shifting back to the earth.

"as a medicine cat apprentice, your job isnt exactly to feed the clan, unless we can live off herbs. what brings you out here tonight?" she inquired, always too self conscious to talk about herself much - and her perceived failures as a warrior.

"wildkit." the warriors voice was strict, stern, and she regarded the young tom with a frown, the disapproval clear on her features. "i am in charge of you. as your adoptive mother, and as a warrior. and regardless of your opinions, if you aren't going to express yourself with good manners then bite your tongue." she told him, lips tilted into a frown. she was almost expecting some sort of rebuttal, and found herself going through her list of punishments from moons of being a mentor, looking for one for a kit.

freckleface knew maplefur must be busy, arranging his trip to the moonstone and managing the clan. leafbare was cruel, and as of late, it only seemed to get worse by the day. she knew newleaf was coming soon, though, and she could only hope the days would pass faster and it would come sooner. she wanted to take as much stress from the tom as she could and, in the spur of the moment, realized they were lacking in patrols. after all, nobody had volunteered to assign them in past meetings.

"patrols! if you're an apprentice or higher, we could use your help; the clan needs to eat, herbs need to be gathered, and borders need to be checked. everyone gather around, let's start getting them out." she instructed, ear flicking as she awaited the bodies to rise and join her.

freckleface smiled at the tom, whom she considered to be a friend, albeit not being particularly close. stormgaze had always been there for her, and she'd be willing to pay the favor back one day, should he need it. though, she had her doubts he'd ever need help; for as long as she'd known him, he'd handled himself quite fine.

"aren't we supposed to be the last ones to eat?" she jested, giving the tom a wink to show she was only kidding. granted, those unfit for working had to be fed above anyone else, but prey wasn't so scarce that anyone had to starve. provided nobody was stuffing themselves full while others ate scraps, she fancied the warriors ought to eat; they couldn't hunt when they were half starved, and they certainly wouldn't be able to defend themselves in the event of an attack.

however, the feline had noticeably lost weight. she'd eaten every day, she knew the clan needed every warrior and killing herself wouldn't do anyone good, but she'd spent most every waking hour out on the moors hunting. their clan seemed to have shrunk as of late, so many of their clanmates disappearing, and so many of those still around were quite young. kits and a smattering of apprentices. every warrior still around would have to catch ten times as much as what they ate to keep everyone fed, and she'd always been persistent on doing twice as much than she had to. she always worried about others too much.

she blinked warmly at the tom, though there was a dark fear hidden in those murky green eyes. "no, not in many days. i'm sure he's going to go soon enough, once the weather permits and everyone is well enough to manage to stay behind. you and i, he left in charge in his absence, if i recall correctly. so, no matter what happens, we ought to remain resiliant and keep everything running smoothly. it's our duty." she said, giving a weak shrug of her shoulders, which protruded through her fur more than they usually did. working, careful eating, and the stress of not seeing much of her leader was taking a toll.

"a hunting patrol sounds wonderful. i might attend, once i get a couple more patrols out. i went out a few times this morning, but i haven't been getting very lucky lately." she confessed, sighing. granted, she was a bit hard on herself; she always came back with something, but something was never enough for the fem. it never had been.

im just imagining the voting like when the tribe voted to leave in the books
and people begin pushing stones forward
and freckle low key gives a stone to berrykit like "you're wise child, lead well"

and let's just play it by ear for now i guess, and vote if the time comes.
i just noticed on the old site that before maple "left for the moonstone" he left freckle and storm in charge, so they can just temporary lead until something else happens

freckle is one of those moms who's responsible for teams not keeping scores to avoid unhealthy competition between peers.
i feel like that, as a whole, sums freckle up so well lmao

freckleface had found herself wondering recently, how fawnpaw's training was going. though it wasn't a medicine cat's duty to be hunting, she saw no reason the girl shouldn't learn. everyone should be able to feed themselves in an emergency, even medicine cats.

she wondered if the young girl remembered the crouch she'd shown her as a kit, and if she'd tried it out. but it was a discussion for another day.

at her inquiry, freckleface hesitated. the borders needed to be marked, sure, but she wasn't about to let a medicine cat apprentice with no battle training walk into potential danger.

"how about a herb patrol?" she inqured, smiling at the girl. "take a bunch of others out to collect whatever you need. i bet youllbe able to search a lot more for herbs with more bodies." she encouraged, shifting to give the girl an almost motherly nudge. the daughter of one of her closest friends was a friend herself, but she saw her just as she did her adoptive kits, another piece in her family. she hadn't seen turtleflower lately, either.

nope. maple posted on the old site before the transfer that freckle and storm were in charge while he went to the moonstone, and since that was one of the last ic posts before people stopped seeing maple [and in that post he was leaving for the moonstone] it's the closest we have to temporary authority, until it's clear whether or not spacent is gonna be back

ive always wanted to do college online? i do really good work on my own, but i do poorly in classes because other people just distract me. i'm literally known for getting my teachers off topic, people treat it like a superpower at my school lmao. but my mom thinks i'll loose my mind if i don't go to school with actual people.
