[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]Any place would have done, really, but she had heard of this pirate-based group, and naturally she was intrigued. The kitsune had heard of pirates before, of course--who hadn't--in books and stories and the like, but she had never actually met any in real life. How would it be like to actually live with them?
So the silvery kitsune had traveled here, carrying nothing with her except for a metal bracelet, runes etched into the surface. The same runes that marked her shoulders and sides in deep black lines, a whole unspoken language that few knew. She needed nothing else besides the bracelet, and that was more for necessity than decoration.
She paused on the edges of the jungle, gazing intently into its depths. How easy it would be to burn it all down, to revel in the flames and laugh at their utter helplessness. Almost without thinking, her paw had strayed to the bracelet, ready to flick the catch and light the spark that gave rise to her power. But no, she couldn't risk any possible repercussions of that, especially not if she wanted to live here.
Shaking those thoughts away, she called out gently, in a high lilting sort of voice, a voice beautiful and pure--but that could turn cold and deadly in an instant. "Hello? Is anyone there?" It would be interesting to see how she got along with these people. Rumor had it that many of them had powers as well, but... well, she would just have to wait and see.

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]She made a cordial nod to all three of them, whether in greeting or out of respect--who could tell? They could interpret it however they wished; she didn't care. The first's questions were reasonable enough, and she had just opened her mouth to reply when the second to approach spoke.Favorite color? The kitsune was taken aback entirely by the odd inquiry, her twin tails springing up in surprise. "That is sort of a... different question, is it not?" She shrugged, the motion slow and languid. "My name is Natali Illyuziya, I am here to join, and my favorite color is... dark grey." Though she didn't say it out loud--she wasn't bold enough for that, and preferred subtler ways--her tone and attitude made it clear that she hoped that the questioning was done with, and even thought them to be sort of silly.
Why even bother with the questions? If the kitsune wanted to harm them--which she did not--she could give an entirely fake name if she so chose, could be among their ranks so easily and destroy them from the inside. They wouldn't know if she was lying or not. If some famed villain came to them, his appearance disguised, and gave a fake name--those questions wouldn't stop him at all. Still, if this was how the clans worked, then the system must be good enough.[hr][/fancypost]

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]The scent of smoke and singed flesh was only a lingering scent in the air, yet heavy enough to be fairly recent. If one were to follow it back to its source on board the ship, one would find only a closed door, perhaps a voice murmuring behind it.
Inside, Natali was utterly focused on a small rabbit, cowering before her. It was still alive, but only barely. Open, bleeding wounds marred its sides, and brands were seared into its fur. A lit candle was off to one side, providing the highly unpleasant smell. The kitsune muttered something, waving one tail lazily. The candle's flame turned a bright, searing yellow, racing down the wick as the wax melted away. Then Natali spoke something else, her words a fearsome growl, and the flame tore itself away from the candle.
The rabbit whimpered in fear and tried to run, but the kitsune was too fast, slamming a paw down on its scrawny body. The fire reshaped itself in midair, slamming into the rabbit hard and fast, too many times to count. At last it was finished, and Natali tore herself away from the burned fur, the broken body, breathing hard. A small grin grew on her face, as she looked down at her prey.
"Excellent," she murmured, running a paw along the brands. Thurisaz, combined with Kaunan. She bet that no one here knew precisely what those runes meant, how much she reveled in seeing them made under her own power. Still, it was better to leave nothing to chance. She probably would have a bit of explaining to do--surely they wouldn't have missed the smell of smoke and burnt flesh--but that should be easy enough. And even better, the floor and walls were untouched, though the area directly underneath the rabbit did look a bit blackened. The kitsune flicked her paw, hard, and a section of her bracelet snapped open, the swift motion creating a small spark.
Quickly she enlarged it into a ball of fire--the first one had dissolved--sparing no time to build it up with a candle even though it would have been easier. With a sweeping gesture of her twin tails, the fire spread across the rabbit's carcass, muddling up the once-distinct brands. There. The flames went out silently, leaving nothing but the scent of smoke in the air.

I have a few questions as well. Is their health dependent on their ability to use their powers, like in the books (like if they don't use their powers for a long time, they get weak and sick)? Also, how much about the Grisha is the outside world supposed to know (is this supposed to be all hush-hush or is it okay to speak openly about them)? What do they think of others with Grisha-like powers, but aren't in this plot (basically every character in ext. FF)?

She didn't know much of Christmas, but she welcomed the chance to let go and celebrate. "Or... maybe a masked party?" That one was probably overused, but she was sure that there was some way to make it unique.

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]It was nice out here, quiet and peaceful. No one to come and disturb her from her slightly pyromaniac tendencies, worrying about causing damage that couldn't be undone. She knew what she was doing, all the time, but others didn't always seem to get that she always had the fire under control.
A particularly large bonfire was before her now, the flames leaping up in odd patterns. This was near the uppermost limits of what she could do; controlling the shape and form of the flames while still keeping the fire from spreading was beginning to stretch her mind, almost painfully. But she loved the challenge of focusing on so many things at once, of pushing her power as far as she dared. It was like a game to her, actually, a game that, with each playing, she got better and better at. Maybe she'd never beat it, maybe it had no end, but she always had fun playing.
The kitsune sent the flames spiraling off the ground in a messy twist, becoming tighter and tighter until it was like a tornado. A bright, blazing tornado, bold and destructive. There was plenty of undergrowth here to provide energy, and all she needed to do was channel that energy.
She whipped the fiery tornado around and around, charring everything in its path. The sheer rush of it all sent a surge of adrenalin through her veins, a wild laugh escaping her. She reveled in this sort of power, the knowledge that she could burn down everything if she wished.
When she collapsed at last, worn out but with exhilaration still racing through her system, the fire died as well. The flames fell inward, condensing until they returned to a bonfire, then disappearing altogether. Natali looked at what she had done, wide swathes of bushes and undergrowth simply burned to a crisp, the surrounding trees with blackened trunks. There was no pattern, really, to this; she'd burned whatever had felt right at the time, with no care whatsoever. The plants would grow back.

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]She froze, somewhat surprised at the cheerful tone in the visitor's voice--she hadn't yet been around long enough to recognize everyone simply by sound or scent alone--then hurriedly set about cleaning up. The rabbit itself was fine, but there was still that conspicuous patch of blackened and charred wood underneath....
The kitsune snatched a rug from over by her bed, a simple collection of pillows and blankets--all had been there in the room already, which was good, as she wasn't much for decorating--and shoved it on top of the affected area, tossing the rabbit carcass to one side. Then she moved over to the door, not noticing that Sel had already pushed it partially open, and tugged it the rest of the way open, most likely upsetting the feline's balance altogether. "Yes?" she called out, not bothering to make her voice seem less curt.
The bluntness was simply caused by her worry, that somehow one of them would know or have heard the rabbit being branded, know that whatever lie she concocted wasn't at all the truth. Really, it wasn't all that important--she'd simply been practicing with the runes, seeing how precise they could be formed, but she figured that they might not like the morality of what she was doing. At its basic level, branding was just another form of torture.

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]Natali was somewhat caught off-guard by Sel's quick response, almost rambling to her. BoneClan, she figured, was another group similar to this one, and Feliks some grumpy member of that group. Still, it rattled her a bit, to see how much she really didn't know about this world. "No idea about how to do the light show, but maybe combine it with the masquerade? You know, people go down this really beautiful lane filled with lights and decorations and stuff, and then arrive at the party? Like a little welcoming event or whatever?"

//I actually have something kinda like the light show in my neighborhood, Candy Cane Lane, where all these people have really cool Christmas decorations and stuff. Going down there is a well-known tradition around here for families.

Even if it was temporary, she must be pretty good to hold that position until someone else could be found. From the sound of it, Kodiak was pretty new to leadership, which surprised her--he seemed like he'd been in that role for a good long while, based on his confidence and general demeanor.
The kitsune figured she ought to show up to the meetings, be around and active and make herself useful. It was either that, or be bored. She probably wouldn't stick around the Skulls forever, as other duties would eventually crop up, but as long as she was here she might as well make a name for herself. "Noted," she murmured softly, almost too quiet to hear. She hoped the second half would be more interesting than this, honoring and demoting and punishing people whom she had no inkling of.

[fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 410px; margin-top: -10px; font-family: arial; line-height:100%; font-size: 9pt; text-align: justify;]The sound was just barely detectable by the time it reached her ears, but all the same she could easily pick out the familiar syllables. Who would be calling her name? No one from the clans, surely--she hadn't been to any other than the Skulls. So... who else? The Second Army was the only group she could think of that would be contacting her, but this would be the first they'd actually come to her home. She was hunting, but that could come later. This was more important.
A smile crossed her features, faint and fleeting--as she immediately dismissed it. Though it was good to meet more Grisha, she couldn't help but think that the only reason that they were here was to warn her of something, or else tell her to start making preparations for battle. The kitsune made her way gracefully through the jungle, going as fast as she dared without taking the risk of slamming into a tree or losing her footing. She still didn't know the lay of the land well enough, but she would soon.
"Yes?" she called out before she even saw the other kitsune, skidding down a small incline. She didn't recognize her at all, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. Natali didn't know how to make small talk-- unless she was aiming to get something out of the other person, and then her words came easily enough--so she hadn't really done much socializing before. Most Grisha in the Second Army would likely be unknown to her.

She didn't care much about birthdays, and quite honestly found the whole thing a bit silly. Who would want to know exactly how old they were? Of course, she'd also been brought up in a far different culture, so she didn't know if missing a birthday celebration was some big sin or anything of the sort. Still, she wanted to get acquainted with this culture, so Natali stalked over, in the way that felines do, twin tails swishing behind her. "You want me to light those for you?" she asked, nodding towards the candles. Sure, there was a lighter, but it might take a while to set all of the candles on fire. With her doing it, she needed only a spark and a few seconds of concentration.

"It's a standard question for her. You don't need to answer if you don't want to--it's not necessary at all." She, too, had been confused about the same thing when she'd first joined, but she'd quickly gotten used to it. "By the way, I'm Natali Illyuziya. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Though the thing about 'little kids; had certainly pissed her off a bit, being promoted more than eased her anger. "Thank you, Kodiak. I promise to work harder in service to the Skulls," she called out, thoroughly meaning it. Natali had been distant from the group somewhat for various reasons, but if he saw fit to promote her, then she figured that she'd better start working on her inactivity. Couldn't show that he was wrong in promoting her, after all.
