    The bright light that shone through my window woke me up from my deep slumber. Realization hit me about what day it was and I begrudgingly got dressed. Father would want me and Rosemary to be present when my brother met the girls. For once in my life, I was not jealous of my older brother. The selection process, in my opinion, was an incredibly annoying process. I heard the sound of Alexander getting ready in the room next to mine. At least the selection would bring lots of beautiful girls to the castle, my brother could only pick one after all.




    After dressing in a black suit and running a comb through my hair, I headed out of my room. Before my walk downstairs, I made sure to pound on my sister's door. She was not a morning person and would sleep until late afternoon if nobody woke her. I heard the cars pull in as the girls arrived. My brother would most likely already be waiting to meet them. I waited at the bottom of the stairs for my sister before I headed to the meeting room.

    The large knocking sound on the door startled me out of my previously peaceful sleep. I jumped out of bed at the excitement of the selection. I loved the romantic nature of the entire event. My brother would find his one true love out of these girls and she would become queen, my sister-in-law. I almost shrieked in excitement. Quickly I threw on one of my many dresses, a small light blue frock that matched my eyes almost perfectly. I ran a brush through my naturally straight hair and trounced down the stairs with a bounce in my step.




    I met my brother, Alec, at the bottom of the stairs. While I had a large smile on my face, he had a small frown resting on his. The only downside to the selection for me was that I could be with my horse instead of in the castle. I pushed the thought to the side of my mind for later, after the meeting I would head to the barn. We walked to the meeting room where some girls had already assembled. The large smile was still stuck on my face as I saw all of the beautiful women here for my brother.

    The tick of the wall clock as time passed made me more and more agitated with every passing moment. Girls began to flood the room although none caught my eye until I saw a beautiful blonde walk in. For some reason this girl stood out from the rest. I pushed the girl to the edge of my mind when Abriella and Azzo walked into the room. I muttered quick hellos to the two and began impatiently shifting my weight from foot to foot. I envied Azzo, as much as I loved my family, I hated the responsibilities that came with being a royal.




    Although it felt as if hours had passed, only mere minutes had. I had no idea why my father demanded that my sister and I were present. I had nothing to contribute to the selection. After deciding this, I was about to walk out of the door when I felt a small hand encase my large one. I looked down and saw my sister staring up at me. I let out a large sigh and resigned myself to one of the chairs in the room.

    Knowing that my brother was about to walk out the door, I grasped his hand. I let out a slight giggle at his exasperated sigh. My large blue eyes watched the whole room, these girls all looked incredibly nervous. I heard my parents talking about these girls the night before, I had no idea why they were all so nervous. These were the most beautiful girls that our kingdom could find. Since Alec was making no move to be social, I decided that I better introduce myself. I walked up to one of the girls by the name of Valentina first, "Hello, my name is Rosemary" This was the first selection I had experienced and I wanted to get to know all of these girls. One of them would be the queen after all. A small smile lit up my face as I waited for her answer.

    I liked this girl. She was beautiful and kind. Valentina.. that's a beautiful name. It's nice to meet you too! Where are you from? The smile never left my face as I spoke to the girl. I wondered when the other girls would arrive. As the time was nearing 12:00, all the girls were still not yet present. I did adore the Selection but I adored my horses much more and by now I would normally be galloping through the forest. The girls that had already arrived were much prettier than I had ever imagined. Any of these girls would make a beautiful queen but it was up to my brother to decide which one he loved.

    George Washington Highschool is nothing particularly special. For these students, nothing spectacular has ever occurred in their minor lives.     The simple thought of missing my favorite holiday for a winter cruise made my whole body shudder in disgust. Christmas is the only thing that keeps me going all year long and I was going to have to miss it because of a winter cruise. This bombshell had been told to me when I was setting up our tree like I do every year and let me tell you, it jingled my bells. My mother's boss had invited us on a cruise and my mother, being the "loyal worker" that she is, agreed. For sixteen years I had lived Christmas, ever since I was able to talk and suddenly my mom thinks that I want to miss it. She says it'll be good for me to meet some new people but I think that she's a scrooge.


    The week after that my entire family, including my annoying little brother, were all packed up and ready to go on this awful trip. After a lot of complaining and refusing on my part we were all in the car and headed to the docks. On the way my parents told us the room arrangements, we had four rooms with the other family. I was staying with a boy about my age which I could not understand, my brother was staying with a girl, and each couple had their own room. Refusing to give up my tradition, I was still dressed in my decked out Christmas outfit and I had brought plenty of festivities in my suitcase. We were going to celebrate Christmas even if I had to force everybody to. As we stepped out of the car, a black sports car pulled up beside us with the other family inside. Upon waving, my Santa hat fell slightly to the side on my head giving me a slightly disheveled look.
