DeathShade looked around with his dark blue eyes nearly shot, he never really enjoyed the snow and kinda missed how warm it had been in the sand near the ocean of his old home. Shaking his head to push the memories back, the tom opened his mouth to let any scent possible flood into it. Other then the snow, DeathShade could scent nothing. He stifled a hiss of annoyance and couldn't to search for anything.

DeathShade watched her head back to the den but he himself wasn't ready to give up. His ears strained to listen for any sound over the howling winds and he struggled to stay on his paws. The cold seemed to dig deep into his bones and settle there. Then, the black toms ear twitched as he heard the faintest of sounds. He ran kicking up snow and it seemed as if he was headed for nothing till the form of a small white hare flashed before him. DeathShade ran as fast as he could only a few lengths behind the hare till suddenly he stopped.
Breathing heavy, a smile formed on the black toms face as he stood a top the limp fur of the creature. Picking it up carefully, he rushed as fast as he could back to the den before the prey lost its heat.
DeathShade entered the den and dropped the rabbit before Gem with a smile. The black tom was breathing heavy but he still wore a smile on his face.

The black tom was hoping Gem would be glad he had found at least something to eat, but he knew she was not. DeathShade figured she was upset with how he was able to hunt and she was not. The tom's ear dropped slightly and he walked to the other side of the den suddenly not hungry. DeathShade laid down and rapped his tail around his slender black body so the tip just barely touch his nose. He kept his dark blue eyes half open but his gaze didn't leave the ground. With how things were going, the tom felt as if he would never be able to tell the truth to Gem.

DeathShade lifted his head slightly and shook his head to say no as well as clear his mind of his thought. "Is to small to share," he meowed kindly, "I think you deserve it more than i do." He glanced at the small white hare well he set his head back on his paws. Hi mind began to fill with thought again.

DeathShade didn't looked at her, he just couldn't given his mind was racing with so many thoughts. "It doesn't matter if i caught it.." he finally meowed after a long silence, "I'm not hungry."

DeathShade flick his ear but did not look up. He just didn't understand what was going on between them after things had been so much better before. FlareHeart had also made it seem so easy and simple for DeathShade to confess to Gem sooner than later, but that seemed nearly impossible now. The black tom heart started to ack as he thought about FlareHeart and how much he had loved her. DeathShade closed his blue eyes though didn't not fall asleep. He let his mind race with his thoughts.

"Gem.." he began looking down, "The reason i've been so.. distance at times is because of what has happened to me.." He looked up but not at her, he seemed to be looking back in time. "Many moons ago i lived in a distant clan near the ocean, but i lost everything i cared about.." He spoke softly but so she could still hear and told her all about the death of his siblings, mother, father, and mentor. He spoke of how he believe he was cursed and everyone he ever loved would be taken away. A few times his words got caught in his throat and he occasionally shut his deep blue eyes.
Finally, he sighed and looked directly at her. "The day i left my clan i choose to go by DeathShade believing i was nothing more than death's shadow... but being with you makes me believe it's not really true." He looked down slightly with a smile, "Your the only cat i have ever cared about that has not been taking away from me... so i want you to know that my real name is DarkShade.."

He couldn't look away from her eyes which to him were so beautiful like the trees of his old land. His heart beat loudly in his chest and he feared Gem could hear it. "Gem.. I..." DarkShade meowed trying to find the words he wanted to use. The black tom had never felt this way about any cat besides FlareHeart, "I.. love you..."

A kind smile formed on his muzzle as well, he was so glad she felt the same way. DarkShade moved slightly closer to her and whisked his tail near hers. His dark blue eyes stared into Gem's as he leaned forward and gentle toughed his nose to hers.
