    Khy's New Backstory

Despite being a rather open, honest person, Khyrie is oddly silent about his past. When asked if he's had any significant, life-altering moments in his life, he will usually offer the same answer: "There's no point in dwelling in the past. It is what it is. We have to move on, whether we want to or not." A frustratingly unhelpful response, but there's a reason behind his strange silence. ▪▪▪ Khy was born and raised in a flower-covered cottage in the heart of the Oregon woods, isolated from the world. His life wasn't sheltered, however; his parents would let him roam wherever, whenever. Still, as a young child, Khyrie felt a need to never stray too far, to stay near his home... but that mentality changed when he grew up. After hearing tales from his parents about beaches, waterfalls, and grand canyons, he yearned to see the world for himself. Iyrandrar and Axilya supported his decision; in fact, they helped him pack for his extensive adventure. Khy left Oregon at the age of 23 --which was coincidentally the time he stopped aging. Over the next 20 years, Khyrie traveled from coast to coast; he also flew overseas to 35 different countries on six different continents, making friends every step of the way. ▪▪▪ However, during his stay in a particular town in France, he met a lively, lovely woman named Celeste. Khyrie, after an hour in her company at a coffee shop, fell head over heels for Celeste. His stay in France extended to fifteen years as he and the human fell in love, married, and eventually gave birth to a child. Ella Miakalyn, Khy's first and only child; a beautiful little halfling girl. Khyrie loved Ella and his wife with his whole heart, which is why their deaths tormented him for years to follow. Khy still doesn't know how the hunters found him out, but he suspects that it had to deal with Ella. Being only six years old, she didn't know how to control her powers; she must've showed them off in public by accident. Human hunters swarmed the Miakalyn Family house... but Khy wasn't there when it happened; he was visiting a friend in Paris that exact weekend. When he came home the following Monday, he found them... ▪▪▪ Khyrie moved back to America the next year; he couldn't stay in France. He had no hope; no positivity; no will to keep going. However, one day, his parents urged him to leave his house and visit an interesting faire: the Darkwood Faire. Now, for the past 20 years, he's worked as an acrobat.

    Dominick Alderidge

    Stagehand | Gorgon

As his hidden eyes swept over the mystical interior of the fortune teller's tent, Dominick couldn't help but grin amusedly at Sister Grey's inquiry, bringing his attention back to her figure. "Ah, you were always more perceptive than I, Sister." commented the gorgon, nodding lightly and lowering himself onto the allotted pillow. Crossing his legs in front of his form, he brought a few coins forth from his back pocket and set them before the fortune spirit. "Please, inform me of my fortune, old friend."

    Khyrmin Miakalyn

    Emerald | Acrobat | Elf

Almost as soon as Mei finished reassuring Khy that the other acrobats would arrive in time, the elf's gaze was drawn to his friends' figures as they stepped into the backstage area. A relieved smile spread across his facial features. Offering a light wave in response to Conrad's greeting, Khyrie answered, "Ready as I'll ever be." As Erity and Candles took their places, standing with Khy and Mei as the acrobats waited for their cue, Khyrmin took the opportunity to say: "Break a leg, everybody. Let's knock 'em dead out there."

    Wolfgang Shaw

    Musician | Siren

The dark-haired siren, having been halfheartedly travelling around the faire grounds, decided to return to his dressing room trailer. Rather then walk around with no purpose, perhaps he could practice songs for the upcoming performance instead. However, a small tent stood in his way. Knowing the Faire fairly well, the tent should have been abandoned at this time. It also had two "doorways;" one in the front of the tent and one in the back. Logically, he should be able to walk straight through the tent and arrive at his trailer with no problem, right? Wrong. Unlike he previously thought, the tent wasn't abandoned right now; it was where Bell was interviewing the newcomer. Wolf didn't even notice the other faire residents until he had already stepped inside. "Whoop-- sorry!" uttered the male as he quickly backed out of the tent, retreating out of the others' sights.

A wave of embarrassment flooded Wolf; he knew the feeling would eventually fade, but at the moment, he felt ridiculous for not looking before he walked inside. However... Wolf lifted a confused eyebrow. Having entered the tent during a conversation, he had caught what the newcomer had said. Did she.. did she just quote a song? Wolf couldn't think of the song's name or the band, but he could hear the beat in his head. Yeah, the newcomer had definitely answered Bell's question with a song lyric. Why?

Wolfgang was planning on returning to his trailer... but he hovered around the outside of the tent a little bit longer. He wanted to see if Bell would catch on, or if the newcomer would quote another lyric in her next response. He waited for the newbie's next answer, planning to leave afterwards. Curiousity kept him near for now.

    Dominick Alderidge

    Stagehand | Gorgon

When the change was slipped back to his side of the table, Dominick gingerly took the coins into his hand, but he didn't put them away; instead, he ran his thumb across the coins' smooth surfaces as he observed Sister Grey's cards. As the cardstock was flipped, however, Dominick paused his actions, and his light smile faded. Something wasn't right. He'd only ever had two cards drawn for his future: the World or Judgement. Staring at the third card --one he'd seen placed for other people, but never himself-- he eventually moved his golden gaze to his old friend. Her expression... Sister Grey's frown, directed at his fortune, caused Nick's stomach to twist in a knot. Never had she looked at his cards with such a face before. Dominick opened his mouth to ask the fortune spirit what the Tower meant for him... but he didn't even have to. Listening to Sister's grim explanation, the gorgon's shoulders fell and his face grew conflicted as a sudden burden was placed on him. "Lose myself to chaos... or let the Faire fall into chaos?" he echoed, moving his gaze back to the cards. Dominick knew the fortune spirit couldn't offer him any more details, for the future was hard to see; but he also hated being in the dark on this. Dominick, swallowing the forming lump in his throat, uttered in a softer tone than before, "Is that all, Sister?"

At the utterance of his name, spoken by Belladona, Wolfgang froze, standing still outside of the tent. Uh-oh. Bell thought that Wolf needed to speak with her. Another flush of embarrassment coarsed its way through Wolf as he realized the awkward situation he had created. No, he didn't wish to talk; he just hadn't been paying attention to where he was going. Wolfgang desperately wanted to correct the situation, to explain the misunderstanding to her now... however, he didn't want to interrupt Bell's interview again. Conflicted, his face hot from embarrassment, Wolf stood beside the tent, waiting. He was no longer there because of curiosity, but because he felt that he couldn't leave. The siren didn't want to worry the Darkwood by walking away.

    Khyrmin Miakalyn

    Emerald | Acrobat | Elf

Khyrmin cracked a smile at Erity's words. "Show time." he echoed softly, bringing his dark gaze to rest on the werebeast. Observing Mei as she climbed to the upper platform, the elf couldn't help but notice something was missing. Well, someone. Selena, the other trapeze artist, wasn't up there with Mei. Lifting an eyebrow, a puzzled expression on his face, Khyrie glanced left down the backstage area, then right. Where could she be? It wasn't like Selena to miss a performance. Wanting to know what the others thought, Khyrie finally asked what all the acrobats were thinking; in a hushed whisper, he inquired to no one in particular, "Where's Selena? Is... did she get sick?" That was the only explanation he could think of... or, rather, it was the only explanation he wanted to be true. Regardless, he hoped Selena was alright.

"Aoibheann...?" the gorgon echoed in a hollow voice, clearly trapped in deep thought now --just as someone who recently received fairly bad news should be. After a moment or two, Dominick's mind finally seemed to click, returning him back to reality; he uttered aloud, "Oh, of course. The Morrigan. I... I'll be sure to greet her." It was obvious that Nick was distracted; his mind was racing as he tried to decipher his fortune... but, despite all his worries, he knew that only time would tell him what his cards truly meant.

Anxiously shifting the coins in the palm of his hand, Dominick gave an absentminded nod as he stood from the pillow. "I... unfortunately, I should be on my way out, Sister." he stated in a wary tone, his hidden gaze resting on the fortune spirit, "I'll be seeing you later, old friend." Perhaps working would take his mind away from his newest burden.

As he drew back the tent's entrance, ready to leave, he couldn't help but notice Aoibheann and Rosie; both of the Faire members were standing idly in the distance, speaking to one another.

Hearing Candles' statement, Khyrie shifted his attention to his best friend. "Yeah, but... she also left early." Khy explained to the fire elemental, a growing look of concern spreading on his face. The elf had been on the supply run with Amaria, Selena, and Jet, after all; he had witnessed Selena tearing away from the group. Of course, he had thought nothing of it at the time... but he was now starting to regret not taking an interest in her departure.

Biting his bottom lip, Khyrmin brought his gaze back to Mei on the trapeze platform. Taking in a soft, calming breath, he decided to speak again. "I... I-I bet Selena's fine. Maybe she's just feeling a bit under the weather and didn't want to risk anything." he commented, trying to keep a more optimistic view, "I'm sure that's it."

After all, with Bell's potion, what's the worst that could have happened to Selena?

Is something the matter? As he entered the tent, in response to Belladona's inquiry, Wolf's cheeks were dusted by an almost unnoticable shade of red, a clear result of the embarrassment and awkwardness he was feeling at the moment. "Ah, no. No, nothing's the matter. I'm... I'm just a moron." he admitted to the head of the Faire with a light chuckle, scratching the back of his neck in an anxious fashion, "I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking, so... yeah, sorry about that. I didn't... I didn't mean to interrupt your interview."

The dark-haired male was relieved by how fast Bell seemed to overlook his mistake. However, her second question left him quite puzzled, as it was a bit of an abrupt request. "Uh..." Two new responsibilities? Well, at least they weren't difficult; and luckily, he didn't have an actual need to practice for the upcoming performance. "Be a tour guide for the newbie and a babysitter for Kiyoshi?" Wolf summed up, his coffee-colored optics bouncing between Bell's eyes, indecisive of which one to focus on, "I can do that; no problem. Nymeria won't be needing me for a while, anyway... I'm pretty sure." The siren wasn't completely certain of that fact, but he had enough faith in it being true that he didn't give it a second thought.

"I can sense your annoyance, your anger." a voice cooed from somewhere behind Kaoura, sounding almost as if it was coming from above, "Although, I am perplexed as to who or what it's directed towards."

The reason for the voice being unnaturally high up was quickly revealed to the half-drakaina as she turned to face the speaker. The source of the comment had been Zackariah, dressed in his faire attire --which included stilts. However, fortunately, the sideshow was currently wearing his smaller stilts, allowing himself to walk through doorways still; the small stilts only added about two feet to his overall height. His full-length stilts, on the other hand, would have added five extra feet to his height... and would have made getting into any tent impossible.

Staring down at the moody security guard, his eyes shifted like kaleidoscopes, colors writhing and mixing within the irises. For the longest time, the color was lingering on red, but --luckily-- the bright scarlet darkened until his eyes became a rich violet.

"And your envy, too." Pride commented with a faint smile, his hands resting idly behind his back, "You would rather be somewhere else, wouldn't you?"

In a search for Calista, wanting to show her a neat multi-colored rock he found, Samuel had left the food tents --essentially abandoning his job-- and was looking everywhere for the witch. Of course, during his trek, his childish mind wandered away from his mission; and now, he was sauntering around aimlessly. The innocent celestial explored the Faire grounds with interest, even though he's seen it for his entire life, walking and entering wherever he was allowed.

However, he finally paused his journey when he was passing Belladona's office; Samuel had heard a voice come from inside the room, and it definitely wasn't Bell's. "That... that wasn't a nice word." he mumbled to the voice, tilting his head and slowly peeking through the high window built into the door, curious as to who was inside.

Despite being heavily wrapped up in his thoughts, the gorgon somehow managed to catch the Morrigan's exclamation. Granted, her shout sounded oddly distant, as if it had come from the end of a long corridor --but Nick heard her words nonetheless. Because of this, his preocuppied attention was finally dragged back to reality; he noticed that Rosie and the Morrigan, which he had observed standing in the center of the Faire a short while ago, were now approaching the fortune-teller's tent. Curious. However, as his gaze fell upon the cups in the Morrigan's hands, he at least understood why she was approaching; he was aware of her tradition with Sister Grey. As for Rosie... he hadn't the foggiest idea as to why the Legion was headed this way.

He offered a light wave to the approaching Faire members. "Salutations, Aoibheann." Dominick greeted the goddess, just as he had promised to Sister Grey, though not nearly as enthusiastically as he would have liked, "And also to you, Rosie. Everything is okay backstage, yeah?"

Seeing as the Legion was standing in front of him, the gorgon now knew that there were no stagehands on standby in the Big Top. That... wasn't ideal, but Nick supposed that there was only a slim chance that something disastrous could happen before one of them returned.

Hearing and recognizing the familiar voice of his friend, Samuel perked up. He swiftly twisted his head around, his eyes focusing on the direction the voice had come from; however, he couldn't see her from where he currently stood. "Cali!" the celestial called in response, slowly recalling his mission from earlier. The rock! Turning back to the door of Bell's office, never properly seeing who was inside, he uttered quickly, desperate to see his best friend, "Be back soon?" With that, he fled the living quarters, heading towards Cali's voice.

Thankfully, Sam found Calista with ease this time. As his gaze finally rested on his friend's face, his deep violet eyes lit up in delight. Gleefully moving towards her, a light skip in his step, he told the witch, "Cali! I was just looking for you!" Smiling brightly, he brought a small object forth from the back pocket of his well-worn jeans and held it for Cali to observe. "Look what I found!"

It was, indeed, a rock. The object was a petite, rounded, oval stone that rested comfortably in the palm of his hand. However, what was unique about it was not its size nor its shape. The rock was strange because it had a peculiar pattern; in a way, it appeared as if the rock was caught in the act of breaking open, revealing vivid colors beneath its metallic brown exterior. Despite looking as if it was cracked, though, the stone didn't have a single fissure in its surface; it was completely smooth.

Shifting his focus between the rock and Calista, Samuel eventually inquired, "Do... do you want to keep it?"

As Kiyoshi energetically tugged on the hem of his shirt, Wolf had to quickly steady himself in order to not stumble sideways. His dark gaze moving down to look at the child, Wolfgang couldn't help but smirk at her eagerness. There was never a dull moment with Yoshi around; she kept all of her babysitters on their toes. "Okay, okay. We'll go wherever you want first." the siren told the young girl, a soft smile on his face. He then glanced at the new member that he was supposed to be giving a tour to and commented, "As long as you're okay with that?"

Undoubtedly, most people would have been deterred by the half-drakaina's terse tone and irritated rant. However, Zack was not most people; Wrath was one of the seven, after all. At that moment, he probably understood Kaoura's feelings more than anyone else ever could. However, whether that was lucky for Kaoura or not was difficult to tell.

As Kaoura voiced the causes for her rage, a sly grin played on the lips of the dark-haired male. "Why don't you confront Ronnan about it, then?" commented Pride, his eyes threatening to turn a different color due to the strong air of hate coming from the half-drakaina, "There's no harm in it. Just... explain to him that you would rather be stationed somewhere else. And if he denies..." The sin offered a light shrug. "Well, you don't have to follow his orders, now do you? You're your own person, aren't you?"

The demon lord felt a spark of triumph as the Peacekeeper easily believed his words. Then again, he was telling the truth; why would there be any difficulty if his words were true?

Choose two other beings to compete? At the Peacekeeper's odd counter-suggestion, bewilderment seized Tenebris. Who could possible compete in his place? In the underworld, no one came close to matching his supremacy; that was one of the main differences between the heavens and hell. Thankfully, the demon lord didn't have to think on her statement for too long. The Peacekeeper carried on with her suggestions, going so far as to threaten to halve the powers of Latai due to foul play. Despite his seething anger, this brought a faintly amused smirk to Tenebris' features. It was always a pleasure to see the god downsized.

Once Latai agreed to return the human, a weight was lifted from the demon's shoulders. She would be brought back to him.

Observing as the form of the Peacekeeper fizzled from existence, Tenebris watched as the world resumed around him and the other deity. Rain continued to pour heavily from the heavens above; the ground continued to rumble, threatening to break in even more locations; the fire returned to his skin, burning brightly. The only difference was the lack of the thrown attacks --and for good reason.

His eyes narrowing at the god as Latai soared upwards, the demon could do little more than watch and wait.

    ***

Soon enough, he could spot a blur descending from the sky. Upon hearing Willow's call to him, using his familiar sobriquet, a wave of relief and delight allowed itself to wash over the demon lord. She had been returned! Temporarily overlooking Latai's very presence, the crimson flames flickering across Tenebris' skin died away; staring at the mortal with scarlet eyes, he could feel his demonic form morphing back into his more inviting human image. His hair faded back to its recognizable shade of vivid green; his eyes returned to their normal celestial blue; his body shifted its appearance, losing the horns and shrinking back to a natural height; however, his bat-like wings remained.

"Willlow!" Tenebris, too impatient to wait for the god to land, took off into the sky, eager to be near Willow again. Approaching Latai and the human in the air, his eyes locked on Willow and on her alone; he felt as if there was nothing else, his mind ignoring the god holding onto her. There was only him and her. That's all he cared about.
