[size=12][font=arial][justify]All right, so I want to breathe some more life into the rift regarding traditions and other things. We really lack anything that sets us apart from other clans, especially backboard clans, and I want to change that. Below are a few ideas, expanded upon.
[b]NORSE FESTIVALS
I personally quite like this idea, as it gives the clan more tradition and such. While this could potentially move the clan into more pro-clan territory, keeping the clan neutral is ideal. There are quite a few different holidays or traditions that could potentially be celebrated.
- Jul, 21-30 of December. Essentially a twelve day festival, celebrating the end and the beginning of all things. The god Odin rides across the sky, changing the year to the new one, basically. This is the most important of all Germanic/Norse holidays, and is personally very interesting, as different things could be done during this twelve day festival.
- Thurseblot. No specific date, but is held on the full moon in January. Celebrates Thor bringing spring back to the world. It is celebrated with a minor feast.
- Disting, Feb 2nd. A "festival of finance," also continues to welcome spring back into the world. I'm slightly towards not having this festival, as it's characterized by planting crops and birthing cattle, and obviously that's not something we do.
- Valisblot, Feb 14th. Minor valentines day festival based around Odin's youngest son, Vali, or Valentine.
- Ostara, March 20-21st. This is the festival of the spring goddess, Ostara. This is the festival that Easter comes from, and is characterized by the gifting of colored eggs to others. It celebrates spring, renewal, and fertility.
- Walpurgis / Thrimilci, April 22 - May 1st. Walpurgis basically celebrates the "All Father's" sacrifice to the world tree. festival of Darkness. Also somewhat iffy about this, as it would require a lot more belief in Norse Gods and such. Thrimilc is the festival that occurs on May 1st, and welcomes summer. Typically celebrated with feasting and drinking.
- Einherjar, May 30th. Basically a memorial day, remembers warriors.
- Midsummer, June 20 - 21st. A festival that celebrates the height of summer. It is the longest day of the year and is characterized by a lot of activity. The days grow shorter after this festival.
- Lithasblot, July 31 - August 1st. A harvest festival, often associated with magical workings and ceremonies.
- Harvest End. September 22 - 23rd. A minor feast that celebrates the end of harvest, leads up to the next biggest festival.
- Winternights, October 29th - November 2nd. A major festival that celebrates the beginning of winter. Much feasting and drinking occurs during this time. often compared to Carnivale.
TERRITORY IDEAS
- boat living.
evergreen came up with this idea. The rift would live on boats and could travel between the boats and the old territory that had a bunker.
- staying in this territory
as stated, we would continue to live in this territory.
- different island
moving towards a colder island that could potentially go with the traditions, also gives plot ideas.
TRADITIONS
- marriage
big marriage ceremonies, turning it into a sort of festival like party.
- rite of passage
when reaching the age of twelve moons, a party would be given.
- every new leader is thrown a party by the eldest member of the clan. ( OOC wise ) Allies are invited.
- if anyone has more ideas for more traditions, please state below!
RANKINGS
- if we want to change the ranking titles, let me know! I can't really seem to find norse type rankings, so if anyone has any ideas about what kind of ranks titles we can use, let me know! preferably nothing with like King or Queen, Lady or Lord, things like that because Westeros uses that type of system, and I do not want to have it like that.
OTHER
- if anyone has any other ideas regarding this, let me know below! i'm really interested in putting more life and tradition into the rift, because we really lack it!
