Alexander's slender long-legged figure sauntered along the outskirts of the dog pack's territory and rounded a sharp corner to circle around and head west in search of a meal to eat. Today, he had a bit of a pep in his step, he bounced a little with every step, and his tail lashed about. He was filled with pride, and he felt content and lighthearted, because today, he knew something big was coming up.
After long moments of tranquil silence weaving past the thick trunks of the towering trees, he still had not had any luck in terms of hunting. Holly had been with him at the beginning, but he insisted that they go their separate ways for now.
It should be easy for Holly, she's got the strongest nose I've ever seen on a dog. I just hope I can at least catch something small for today
Alexander wanted to doubt himself, but he couldn't. He grinned and padded down a rocky bank by a slow creek, beginning to feel that lighthearted feeling again.
I'm going to catch a fish. And maybe even a river mouse.
His skin tingled with excitement as he slid into the still water. It crept all the way up to his throat quickly and it forced him to lift his paws up off the bottom of the river. His posture remained elegant, and he paddled through the creek calmly by moving his forelegs in a long sweeping motion. The creek was wide enough for it to take him actual effort to cross it, and it was a long way down South before the rapids would pick up speed and become dangerous for any dog. Cranes flew past briefly overhead, and the trees swayed gently in the breeze. Alexander turned to his right and cast his gaze upon a creamy white goose who floated peacefully on the surface of the water; his nostrils flared as he caught the pungent smell wafting from the stinky water bird.

A plump white dove fled by Holly's eyes in a flurry of white and grey feathers, and about a dozen more scrambled frantically around her feet trying to escape. The colossal she-hound, however, had hunted much faster birds than that lazy lot, and she had no trouble grasping them between her massive jaws.
By the time she was finished with them, she marveled at the amount of birds she was able to take down, and how much blood and feathers had stuck to her muzzle and paws.
"Whoa! 4 of em'! That's a new record for me. Those birds must have slept on it or something because that was a breeze compared to the things i've had to deal with." Holly barked a hearty chuckle, and lowered her head to examine the prey "so glad I finally found something to eat. I just wish Alex was here, so he could help me carry all this."
Holly then pulled away from the carcass and tilted her head back, baying loudly out of excitement. Her tail thrashed side to side and she grinned.

//its ironic that Holly is the lowest ranking hunter because shes amazing at it-

It all began many years back, far back into the past. 9 cages filled with dogs of different backgrounds and families, the rumbling noise of a car engine, whining and yelping and clattering of cages. This big truck that held all of these dogs was coming from something called a puppy mill, an awful place that constantly breeds dogs and can't even afford to care for them, so they live in poor conditions. The dogs were being taken somewhere better; who knew such a minor hiccup would throw everything off course. First, they were traveling across a bumpy road and the next thing they knew they were crossing a wooden bridge. The rotten wood creaked under the weight of every dog, and eventually collapsed. The dogs came spilling out of their poorly locked cages and into the creek.
As the mood began to settle and the catastrophe was left far behind, the dogs thrived on their own in the water, and instantly they knew this was where they belonged.
And that was only the beginning of the Silent Creek Pack.

It was very early in the morning, earlier than Aztec would usually wake up, but he had promised to wake the pack up for an early morning gathering to discuss a few issues that had been bothering him for some time. He rose slowly to his paws and stretched out each stiff limb one by one. He then shrunk to the ground and slipped out of the entrance to the den, shaking the dirt that clung to his pelt afterwards. The morning was almost eerie, as if it were too quiet. The birds were seemingly quieter than usual, and the cool breeze had picked up. The furry blonde brute huffed a gentle sigh and climbed up onto the wide round rocks stacked upon each other right on top of the flowing water. He stood tall and mighty above the pack camp and lifted his great head to cast his gaze down at the scenery around him.
Aztec drew in a sharp breath briefly, then tilted his head back and howled. His deep melodic voice seemed to float on the wind and it was carried all throughout the clearing, awakening every sleeping dog.

A sleek thin dog with a grey pelt dappled with white and brown that could only belong to Lucid, heaved himself out of then den almost forcefully, his eyes drooping with exhaustion. The chilly air sent shivers down his spine.
"wait, is this another gathering?" Lucid murmured, showing genuine concern for Aztec. Over the past few days there had been several early morning or late night gatherings, mainly about territorial business and how the patrol dogs should do better; Aztec would always indirectly refer to Lucid.
Despite Lucid's disappointment, he hurried over to to gathering spot.

    aztec_by_chocolatethedog-dbb8rdw.jpg

Aztec's eyes followed every dog emerging from the dens to sit down in front of him, many of them clearly pissed about having to be woken up early. He relaxed slowly and sat back on his haunches, his tail thumping against the rock. I hope they'll forgive me for waking them up so early these days, but my intentions are pure. I'm hoping that by the end of this year we'll have more pups in training for future generations of patrol dogs.
Even though many of the dogs had gathered there, he still waited for more to show up; especially his beta, Smoke, who seemed to be one of the last dogs to wake up at every gathering.

    lucid_by_chocolatethedog-dbb8rco.jpg

Lucid quickly turned to respond to the nudge with chuckle, lowering his usually loud voice "I have high hopes that Aztec will mention me in a good way this morning. I volunteered extra patrol time and a brief night watch until falling asleep; he's got to! What about you? Did you catch anything particularly special?" He watched Nova with his gentle brown eyes, waiting for an
    answer.

Alexander watched the goose intensely, his primal instincts beginning to kick in. It sat there on the water eyeing him briefly, just before it turned carelessly and began to swim downstream. Alexander followed swimming as fast as he could at the goose.
The bird whirled around quickly and attacked, and Alexander had to endure a blow to the snout. The scar stretched from the bridge of his nose down to his lip.
"Now you're asking for it!" The furry black male roared and snapped at the goose's neck. It yelled back to Alexander as he returned the scar. The bird had an open wound, and he took advantage of the bird's loss of balance. Swiftly, Alex snatched it by it's neck tightly and headed for the shore; with some difficulty, since the goose spend all of the rest of it's energy yelling and squirming. Upon reaching the shore, the goose finally grew weak, and then limp. It's lifeless body laid there between Alex's strong jaws.
It took him some time to find the camp again, but it was definitely worth walking back. Now he had a massive dead bird to feed the pack.

    •Holly•Female•Hunter•3 years•

Holly flipped 2 of the dead birds onto her shoulders, and carried the other two between her jaws. She plowed on through the woods without stopping once, eager to show off her wonderful catch to everyone. Holly could just see it; how impressed the alpha would be. She sighed.
It'll teach Alexander not to doubt me with his sissy bob-tailed-fat-nosed self.Least I can catch a decent meal

Holly was not angry with Alexander, nor did she dislike him at all, but it was sort of their thing to insult eachother in a friendly way. Alexander had called holly a loud-mouth, putrid-breathed, hillbilly jerk last sunset, and Holly had to come up with an even more shocking one to top it.

The golden furred brute cleared his throat loudly, silencing the crowd of wild dogs. He watched the eyes of every surrounding dog in silence for a long moment, then began to announce "Many of you are rightfully annoyed by my abuse of gathering time. Whether it be late at night, or just the crack of dawn, I had been treating this priviledge wrongly, and for that I apologize. My hope is that this will be the last gathering we have for a while." He could see some dogs expressing their approval. "but my initial concern this morning is of territorial business. There have been reports of wolf sightings just east of where we stand at this very moment."
His statement earned a few anxious looks toward some of the patrol dogs.
"I am proud to announce, however, that we have many trustworthy dogs in our patrol dog group, and those of you who are worried about this situation can count on them to keep us safe."

    lucid_by_chocolatethedog-dbb8rco.jpg

Lucid quickly turned his attention to Aztec, trying to see if the alpha male would mention him. It turned out that he did not mention him, but when he spoke of 'trustworthy dogs', he eyed Lucid first. Lucid had definitely earned the alpha's trust again, but it wasn't going to be easy to reach his original goal- become lead patrol dog.
Lucid's long black ears twitched and he straightened his posture a little.
