Karrhig was not used to being yelled at. Generally it was from someone with a distaste for orcs, but he thought the town he resided in was pretty open. "Uh- Uhm-" He shifted from huge foot to huge foot, smiling awkwardly. Luckily, he didn't need to speak. A group of people came in. He saw Adalynn among them, and his smile became genuine. "Adalynn!" His voice boomed as it had when Liluth originally came in. "Hello! I have a young elf here, looking to-"
Liluth cut in as she stepped in front of him. "No. It's fine, you don't need to mention it. I'll go to a different church." The inflection on the word 'different' was one of anger, and as she said it she directed a pointed look to the half-orc. She turned back to the others, and straightened her back. "I'm Liluth." She stuck out her hand, and offered a shy smile. It was a smile she reserved for those she wanted to manipulate. It became clear that stealing wasn't an option with so many witnesses, so she figured she may as well try to get out fast. Charm was the answer.
Maybe they're travelers. I'll have to figure out which is the richest.. Stealing was still on the top of her mind, even if it wasn't in the moment. If she could get one of them alone, a get away would be possible.
-
Karrhig's grin stayed on. "Alright, I'll bring them to the Reverend. Also.." He drummed his fingers against each other in front of his stomach. "Well- You know that I'm a Paladin of many churches. I think it's high time for me to set out on a real quest, or at least change towns." He informed Adalynn sheepishly. He turned towards the others and pronounced with a flourish of his hands, "Okay! Time to meet the Reverend." Daerius' bow made him chuckle. "Ooh, master orc. I like that.." He murmured.
Liluth nodded her head, and blue locks of hair fell into her face. "Yes.. I thought that I would pledge myself to the church, but that is no longer needed.." She took a second to plan her next move. There were fewer people in the room, at least.. But she would still need to figure out if it was worth waiting to steal from them. "So, what are you guys anyway? Travelers, soldiers, mercenaries? Something else?" They seem too rag-tag to be soldiers. Travelers, maybe.. She thought, studying Adalynn as she waited for a response.
-
Liluth tilted her head further to the side and stepped forward. "Adventurers, hm? What adventures have you been on recently? Any plans for the future?" To counteract the prying questions, she gave another sweet smile. "I apologize, I just.. I have been looking for another group to join." Sort of true. She often joined groups, and either murdered to take all the supplies, or stuck in until the rewards were reaped for the quests. Then she would try and swipe all rewards and make off on her own. Liluth didn't need to work much, as her stealing sustained her well.
-
Karrhig's smile did not cease when the Reverend walked out. "Hello." He spoke almost proudly, as if he was glad to know the Reverend, and glad to know the Reverend knew him. He definitely was. The tall orc had a lot of respect for most church leaders, and some political leaders. He considered being an aid to them to be his second purpose in life- The first, naturally, being helping those in need. Karrhig's natural smile however, faded a little when the Drow mentioned an evil. That.. that could be exactly what he was looking for. One big help to the world.. It could be the biggest thing to happen in his life. He was used to doing small things, like odd jobs. Taking bounties of thieves, giving the bounties to the poor and sick. An occasional quest for churches or for villagers. Defeating an old evil could mean so much more than any of that.. He thought, with a completely peaked interest.
However, every hint of an interested expression disappeared when the tall man mentioned taking with force. "Hey, now." Karrhig's bushy eyebrows furrowed together. "Ain't no reason to be taking anything from a church." He crossed his arms and stepped closer to the Reverend in a clearly protective way. "There must be some form of trade without stealing."
-
As the Drow began to leave, Karrhig's 'gentle giant' personality snapped away. "HEY!" He bellowed, gripping his fists and storming towards the Drow. "YOU DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT SOME FORM OF PAYMENT." He refused to allow a church member to be stolen from. He refused to let ANYONE get stolen from. "You need to at least give him some form of insurance. How are we supposed to believe you? Give the Reverend SOMETHING to ensure your return." He growled and showed off the classic orc front teeth. "The Reverend Father has been nothing but kind and welcoming to all, and you seem a little aggressive. And I might be an orc, but you also seem obtuse. Some sort of trade has to happen here. That relic belongs to the Reverend, and you need to at least be respectful. Like I said, some form of insurance that you'll be back." He demanded loudly, but realized how rude he sounded. "...Please." Back to awkward shiftiness.
-
"I'm no healer, but I am a Paladin. And I protect the innocent. Just give him something, you don't have to take whatever you want without any repercussions. There has to be something you own that would be fair to lend to the Reverend until you get back." Karrhig straightened up his back. "The fact that you refuse shows me that you aren't being so true to your word. If you are to return, give him something. And.." He paused. "..And I will accompany you. To make sure you return." That wasn't the whole reason why he offered his services. He wanted to join a great quest. Of course, making sure the tall guy wasn't a thief was a big part. Two goblins, one stone.
"And uh.. your friend is a cleric. She needs to heal him, because I.." He looked at his huge hands. "I ain't adept in that way."

No one ever called an orc smart. No one. Karrhig was not one to dispute the claims of stupidity- His greatest weakness was his blindness when trying to help. Even when a goddess appeared, he was not deterred. Karrhig was a follower of a dead god, after all. His belief system in gods and goddesses was messed up. "Ma'am! Your followers may have a noble cause, but they need to leave an item of worth in trade for the relic." His respect for leaders only went as far as their love for all went. "I refuse to allow stealing, at least make them trade!" It sounded fair. It WAS fair. But.. he wasn't talking to some dark elf. He was speaking to a goddess.
Again. No one ever called an orc smart, as the old adage about stereotypes went.
The true thief's smile became a little larger. "Ah.. are you in any need of an arch-" Her sly tone of speech was interrupted by a huge voice. She jumped, and ran to the furthest corner of the church instinctively. She thought that somehow they figured out who she was. A murderer, and a thief. But the orc seemed to be going after the taller one. Her quick, shallow, fearful breath slowed; She took a deep one, and headed back to the rest of them to listen in on what was going on. Chaos was where she thrived, after all. As she watched him talk to a goddess in defiance, she muttered, "Dear, gods. That is the biggest dumb*ss I've ever seen."
(y'all i'm gonna have devotion come in soon! ^u^)
-
Karrhig nodded his head, crossed his arms, and smiled proudly. "That was all I wanted, thank you ma'am." He closed his eyes and the smile stayed on. He felt pretty dang good right about then. Maybe I'll worship her. She seems nice. The childish way of thinking and speaking was almost always evident in the half orc.
-
"Adalynn left for an artifact that belongs to the church.. Adalynn, isn't that why you left? That belongs to the church, doesn't it?" His proud expression turned to a look of concern. Had he defied someone when it wasn't their's? "I am pretty sure that belongs to us. Finders are not always keepers." Karrhig said matter-of-factly. He sure was stubborn as hell when it came to the "right" thing. Not a good point.
-
Now THAT was something he grinned about. Being told to help by a goddess? He smiled from eye to eye, and looked around the room. "You hear that?" He whispered to Liluth and Adalynn, who were to the side. He turned back to the goddess. It's fascinating how his mood could change so easily.
-
Karrhig watched the group leave, and turned to Adalynn. "You heard the goddess. I have to 'aid' those two. Er- three, I think. I'm not the type to ignore an order, especially from a deity. I'm sorry our goodbye has to be so short.." He put his hands on her shoulders and smiled. "But I am a traveling Paladin, and a traveler must travel." He turned towards the Reverend and waved. "And that goes to you too, sir! I swear on my life I will visit." And with that, he turned to follow the three out the door.
Liluth stared after them. "...Oh, god. I'm gonna follow." She jogged out after them. "Hey, wait! I want in!" Any quest given by a goddess was bound to have a good reward in her mind.
Devotion hadn't been in a bar, like she usually was. She was walking absent-mindedly, when suddenly something deep inside her stirred. There was a deity present. That always made her feel sick. Being a Tiefling was something she hated.
She heard more. The screaming of a girl. Normally Devotion stayed out of things- ESPECIALLY things that had to do with gods, goddesses, and/or religion. But this felt different. She headed towards the sound of the screaming with her red hair pushed back behind her shoulder. She didn't walk onto th scene immediately, but rather watched them from behind a tree. Her "devil"'s tail and her head were the only things peeking from around the tree. She licked her tongue over her small fangs, unsure if she should rush towards them or not. It didn't usually work out, after all.
-
Karrhig watched with a feeling of uncertainty. He stared at the poor girl screaming, and held a hand over his heart. Watching suffering was not his thing. But.. something seemed like it was happening, in any case. Something that wasn't.. holy? That can't be. He assured himself. She was clearly a devout follower of gods and goddesses. But.. he felt something. Karrhig moved a hand towards the large sword he kept on him, glancing about. There's no way it's her.. He thought.
Devotion's tail started to whip wildly behind her. Something was definitely happening. She couldn't tell what, exactly, but something definitely was going on. She pushed her horns against the tree as she looked closer- As close as her head adornments would allow. "Oh gods.." Devotion pulled out a flask, and pressed the cold metal to her warm lips. Seeing suffering like that reuqired at least one drink for her.
-
Karrhig took his fingers way from his sword when his friend fell to the floor. He kneeled down beside her to check her pulse, and once he was sure she was alive, kept a watchful eye on Imra. It was weird to him how okay everyone seemed with her transformation. The orc's face was dead serious, and he didn't speak.
-
(what about tieflings and half-orcs? lmao)
Karrhig stood to his feet and stretched out. He wasn't sure how to react to having a vampire on their team.. It didn't feel quite right. But I am not one to judge. If she has a heart that's for good, then who am I to judge the way she is now? He thought simply. "That sounds good to me. Which are we headed to first, and where is it?"
Liluth stared at the vampire with a blank face. Her eyes looked almost dead. The way she was tended to be empty when she wasn't acting or trying to decieve. "Those items sound rather rare." She murmured aloud. "It will be hard for us to get them, and hard to keep them away from passing thieves, I'd imagine.." She twirled a lock of blue hair around her finger, deep in thought.
..I'm going to track them. Devotion decided. A group okay with a vampire might be okay with her.. Her tongue flicked against her fangs again, almost to compare them to the ones that Imra then possessed. She moved a little further away to make sure they didn't see her- She needed more time to watch them before she made a move. Being seen hiding too soon might ruin any chhances she had.
-
(awh i had somthin planned there with devotion lmao
also i'll just have her easily swayed by the charisma, she's pretty gay after all)
Devotion smacked Imra's hand away by instinct. "..I didn't mean any harm. I'm just standing here.." She stepped away from them, and held onto one arm with her opposite hand. "I'm Devotion." Her expression was clearly that of discomfort- She didn't like to talk to people without immediately knowing she would not be rejected. That was something she'd learned. "I'm just a Tiefling." Another thing she'd learned- Always assure people that you aren't of evil nature. "A long line of them, actually. I don't even know who my ancestor was that made the deal."
Devotion preferred to have the upper hand in social situations. Being pulled away from her hiding spot so randomly meant she definitely did NOT have that. "..I don't know what else you want to know, haha." Her laugh was forced and she refused to look at any of them.
-
"..That's pretty forward, but.." She looked down at her boots. "It's why I was following you, after all. I may leave a lot, but I guess I want to join." Her drinking problem was due to the way people so often assumed the worst, after all. If they were okay with her joining, then she may as well. "..I think I'd like to, then." She offered a grin to the girl, which she flashed to the other members of the group as well.
-
Devotion nodded her head at Adalynn. "Ah, well.. thank you." For once, she was accepted. Her sarcastic personality could come out. Generally she was quiet and somber, almost melancholy. But was there any need to express complete suppression?
"You must be real fun at parties!" She kicked off her real disposition by attenpting- and failing- To wrap one arm around Daerius' shoulders as she teased. "This girl gets it." She pointed towards Adalynn, referring to her comment. "..Well, we may as well head out, yeah?"
(i love devotion so much. omg. my lil drunkard gal)
-
(can i ask what paladin? c: )
Devotion lifted her hands in a 'surrender' Sort of way. "Alright, alrigjt, I'll 'refrain' from touching you." She stepped away and held her hands by her side. THe tiefling girl only vaguely listened to what the drow said, and took a large sip from her flask as he talked. But then, the vanpire girl turned to her. And asked to 'spar'.
She wasn't one to turn down a challenge, especially one that came with a respectful bow. But her attacks were not meant to be for a solo fighter. She was a support fighter, specifically due to her illusionist magic. IT was why she wanted a group so bad. But again, she was not one to turn down a fight. After a moment of thought, she uneasily agreed. "Yeah, I'll uh.. I'll fight you."
-
"I would say the same to you, but.. I don't think you'd WANT to learn a thing or two about illusionist magic." She joked, but it sounded awkward. "I guess you can start, then." She said, already thinking about what moves to use.
-
Devotion doubled over almost instantly. "Oh, boy.." She took a few quick steps away. "I shouldn't have gone into illusionist magic, haha.." She was clearly becoming more and more disconcerted. It was clear that her power wasn't going to match, and it would just become a game of cat and mouse. She took out one of her "short swords"- which was really just a knife, and steadied herself.
(yeah lmao, he's kinda runnin' the show. i was planning on having karrhig interrupt when he does something illegal, liluth will probably follow orders for a while, and honestly devotion is just. her own little mess. i might not even have her fight really, illusion is the crappiest magic class i could think of))
