— Red had been silent the whole time, her voice stoic and hollow, but her eyes were practically screaming with confusion. She wanted to react to all this, but over time, all she felt was numbness and sadness, as if being there was some kind anesthesia for her. I have siblings, she noted, but I'm probably not siblings with her. And if I was ...
She blinked, sad memories threatening to spill from her baby blue eyes. Mmph; no, they'd hate me, probably. They all abandoned me because of how I was as a kid, and then they left; so, for all I know, they're ... Oh, I can't be crying right now; I can't! She was acting like a baby; she couldn't let the others notice!
Red sniffled as quietly as a mouse, and she dried her face off on her foreleg. She drew deep, shaky breaths. The calico thought of the sea; thought of the color blue; and she waited for a warm, fuzzy calmness to wash over her. She thought she'd find it, but all she found was her usual numbness.
I'm okay enough right now, I guess, she lied, wishing everything would just ... leave her alone. I just have to hold in my ... my tears.
Trying to get her head in the game for a moment, wondering what to do. If they're my siblings ... No; it doesn't matter if they're my siblings or not. I should help them. She didn't want them being in disarray like this, and she didn't have anything else to do anyways. Sure, she could be eating, but she wasn't about to die from starvation right then and there; so ... she didn't care.
Red looked at the others around her, shy to announce her thoughts at first. Finally, she worked up the courage to say something after she had told herself that she just had to; so, with her shoulders slumped from lack of confidence, she stated aloud, "I think we ... well, I'm going. I don't think we're siblings. You'd probably hate if ... if --" She paused and shook her head, as if sweeping away more bad memories from the back of her mind.
"But -- even if we're not siblings, I think Skip's confused and needs help. If you come, Tigershark, maybe you'll find out if Skip's sick or something. Or maybe if we explain to him that we're ... or, at least, I'm not their sibling, then they'll feel better. I don't know. They seem upset and lost and ... lonely. But you don't have to, I guess."
She stared at them for a few moments, wondering if they'd follow her lead or not, before she sprinted away after the others as fast as hare. Her paws practically hovered over the grass with each and every step she took.
