My past can' t hold me back anymore. It has become my shield, has helped me find my strength. Now, it is time for me to start fresh. No one here has traveled as far as I. They know nothing of me. They will welcome me, if all goes well. They never need to know where I have been, what I have done. That was a different cat. I may have the same long golden fur, the same hypnotizing green eyes, but inside nothing is the same. I even plan on taking a new name, though I have not decided on one yet. So here I am, waiting patiently on the border for a Windclanner to come.

No one had been on the Windclan border to welcome her. But she didn't need anyone. Everyone would eventually leave, anyway, and the only one that would stick around was herself. At least she could always count on that. Her paws took her in no particular direction, but soon she found herself in a wheat field not unlike the one in which she and...NO! She halted abruptly, narrowing her eyes. Her past was behind her and she was never getting it back. It was meant to be forgotten. She was different now. Or at least, that was what she tried to convince herself. She shook her head to clear it and trudged unpurposefully onward, towards nothing and everything. Then she froze as a distinct smell hit her nose. Someone else was here. She glanced around, waiting for the thing to show itself.

    Who are you, stranger?

I am Eternalnight, a tom who is heterosexual. I am 40 moons old and I bear a black pelt with dark brown eyes, as well as a scar from muzzle to cheek on the left side of my face. I am standoffish, power-hungry, and mean, although I do my best to contain it. I was born in a nameless place far from here. I used to be kind and happy, with a mate and a daughter. But my mate was killed in a bear trap while chasing after my daughter. I blamed my daughter because it was her fault. I became cruel, sometimes abusive. My daughter ran away, and I hate her for it. But I have learned to keep my emotions in check. Now I may have found a purpose.
I will follow the laws of HurricaneClan. I pledge my loyalty to this Clan and the warrior code. I would like to join HurricaneClan as a warrior.

Goldenglory watched the proceedings from the safety of a clump of brambles. She had been waiting at the border to join, but the noise from the proceedings had caught her attention. She crouched low. She hadn't been welcomed yet so she technically was not part of Windclan, but that didn't stop her from being curious and watching the proceedings. Confident in her stalking abilities, she crept closer until she was in the patch closest to the three cats, mere tail-lengths from them. Just one step closer...SNAP! She froze instinctively, lifting her paw off the branch that had most likely given away her position. She squeezed her eyes shut. Please don't look over here please please please, she thought to herself.

Goldenglory looked both Windclanners up and down, analyzing them, and stood up, forcing a calm demeanor. "Hello." She gave each of them a respectful nod. "I am not from around here but I have come a long way in more ways than one and I was hoping for a place to stay, possibly permanently." At least, as long as she didn't mess anything up here, didn't let her guard down. But that was a past life. If she wanted to keep living she had to ne different, had to sweep away everything else. Unbeknownst to her, her eyes had darkened and she began gazing at nothing in particular, lost in thought.

Eternalnight squeezed through the camp entrance, jaw full of fresh kill. He dropped most of it on the fresh-kill pile before taking a few mice for himself and finding and finding a secluded and shadowy place on the edge of camp. He settled down to eat, eyes glancing around coolly.

Goldenglory's opened her eyes slowly, and they made contact with Redthroat's. Confused as to why he was making no move to chase her off or anything, she tilted her head and slowly raised herself to her full height, ready to go figure out what was going on. No point hiding anyway. But she couldn't stop herself from maintaining eye contact with Redthroat. That confused her, too.

Eternalnight watched the proceedings through narrowed eyes, straining his ears to make out the conversation and realizing that mentor had covered for apprentice. He snorted disapprovingly. "If it were my apprentice, they would have gotten the punishment they deserve. But whatever, why should I care anyway?" He realized he was mumbling, and glanced around to see if anyone else had heard. Seeing that no one had, he got to his paws and padded back out into the forest, feeling no need to strike up a conversation with the other clan members. The fresh-kill pile was full, so he would just take a walk along the border instead.

She didn't know what compelled her, but Goldenglory padded out from the bushes, trying her best not to invade the frightened she-cat's personal space. Something had happened to her, something traumatic. Her heart tugged, pinched, and she closed her eyes tight, taking a deep breath. Don't remember. Don't remember. Push it back. It's in the past. She shook her head and gazed at the she-cat with eyes that had known pain similar, eyes full of empathy. She didn't speak a word, as she of all people knew words did not help these things. There was really no surefire way to help these things, of there even was a way to help at all.

Eternalnight opened his mouth to taste the air for intruders, but all was as it should be. On the outside, anyway. On the inside... he growled, claws extending. She would pay... he would make her pay. He would wait, patiently, but when the opportunity came, she would stand no chance. He took a deep breath, put his claws away, and padded onward, resuming his usual air of cool collectiveness.

Goldenglory settled on the edge of things, green eyes unblinking. She had only just joined the clan, so she assumed she could not help train an apprentice. Nevertheless, she wished she could. Helping another cat on their journey, that would be incredible. If only she could... but she didn't have the guts to ask. She watched Littlepaw go without a mentor, and raised her head hopefully, praying someone would notice her, call for her to be a mentor, but no one did. She shook her head, disappointed. She needed to remember to never expect anything good in life, or those high expectations would always come back and hurt you.

Eternalnight's ears pricked as a voice came from behind his shoulder. One of the clan cats. He flicked his ear in annoyance before pausing and turning to her. "I was just patrolling the border. You never know when something could be awry." Assuming that was a sufficient answer, he turned and continued onward, expecting her to become disinterested and wander off.

Goldenglory watched from a distance, curious and intrigued. The feline seemed quite deep in thought, and eventually her curiosity got the better of her. Besides, she had nothing to lose anyway. She padded up to the other cat, faking confidence, not expecting to be recognized since she was new but trying to make a good first impression. "What troubles you?" she asked rather blankly, being quite straightforward as usual.

The tom blinked. "An apprentice? Stressed? He knows nothing of stress." He realized he had spoken aloud, and silently cursed himself for being so careless. "So you decided to come along," he grunted, awkwardly trying to redirect her attention from his mishap. He didn't feel like defending himself to anyone.

Goldenglory watched the exchange with a bemused expression. She found it quite entertaining how Victorypaw actually cared what the kit thought, and how the kit made such an effort to cover up his confusion and his rudeness to his superiors.. "Funny how everyone cares about their image to others when those others will leave eventually, anyway," she meowed to no one in particular.

Goldenglory contemplated his answer, but she did not know him well enough to tell if that was the whole truth. She wished she was as good at psychoanalyzing people as someone she once knew. Her eyes clouded at the memory. She doubted she would see that cat again. She blinked sadly and focused once more on the situation at hand. She didn't know much about the Scarclan raids and kidnappings, but they were definitely quite unnerving. "So if there are many things you don't know, what do you plan on doing about it?
