Annabelle had been up early in the day to do some light reading before heading out to the training area for some morning exercises. By the time she headed back to the Poseidon Cabin and finished her shower, the demigod was craving something sweet. She had baked a cake the day before and had left it in the fridge to chill overnight. Nothing fancy, just a small, plain chocolate cake. As she retrieved the cake from the refrigerator, Annabelle thought something seemed off with the shape. And was the icing messier than before? Before she could consider it too much, Alex came walking in, fully made and dressed up.
"Hey babe," Alex greeted, yawning widely. "You're up early."
"Not really; it's nine o'clock, Alex." Annabelle laughed, setting the cake on the table and searching for a knife. "And what about you? You're all done up."
"I wake up this way sweetheart," Alex drawled, cherry red lips spreading into a smile. She eyed the cake with slight disgust before looking back at Annabelle. "Really? This early?"
"Well, I've been up for a while. I need something sweet - here's the knife! Really, did someone rearrange the kitchen?"
As Annabelle drew the elegant blade from its resting place, the world went silent. Almost as though in slow motion, the knife raised its head and proceeded to fulfill its sacred duty; and when it reached its destination....
This wasn't in the instructions, was Annabelle's initial reaction as the cake exploded. Someone had switched her cake out with one that had a balloon in it. Before she could even wonder who did it, she saw it.
The note.
It was nothing to other people, just a worn out piece of paper, but it told Annabelle who the culprit was; on it was light-saber, badly scribbled in red.
"DANIEL!" Annabelle yelled, and all of a sudden the world once more had sound and everything came to life. In the background, Alex had jumped back in order to avoid being splattered with chocolate. Annabelle tried to dodge as well, but she was right next to the source and so icing and pieces of cake hitting still managed to hit her. She could swear she heard laughing in the distance. Annabelle balled up a fist, feeling her revenge empowerment already at work.
The cake was a lie, and there was going to be hell to pay.
