The high position I'm interested in: Practitioner's Student

    Character name:  sweetpaw a.k.

    Main account name:  tully

Why I think my character would best suit this position: Neptuniankit is a very passive, pacifistic boy who doesn't like to engage in conflict if it isn't absolutely necessary. As such, he would likely want to follow a path where he can avoid the fighting and yet can still help the Rogues in some way. Even if he doesn't take this position, he will likely try to learn healing on his own time in order to do as he wants to do in order to help others.

perhaps his first feeling upon seeing the body of the older rogue should have been horror, or even fear. instead, the only thing he felt was a silent dismay. after all, this couldn't have been the first time he'd seen something such as this, right? violent death such as this didn't seem to be unfamiliar to him, despite the fact that he knew it should have been. he also had heard a comment about keeping the children from seeing what had happened, and he couldn't help but wonder why. if they needed to bury him, wouldn't it be better to have others help, even if they were children? wouldn't it be better to have the children learn of death so they were ready for the inevitable future losses they would feel?

he came closer, watching as his mother attempted to pick up the dead creature. neptuniankit stayed silent for a bit, not sure what to say for a moment, until he finally asked, "is there any way that I could help, mama?" perhaps he should have stayed back, but he couldn't help trying to do something. it wasn't in his nature to leave those who were struggling.

neptuniankit hadn't been there to see most of her attempts at retrieving her doll, yet still had arrived to see her pushing it down, climbing halfway down, and then falling the rest of the way. despite the mishaps, she seemed proud, and so he came closer, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "good job, mil," he said softly, sitting down next to their mother as he spoke to his sister.

despite enjoying the times his mother--no, not mother, that word didn't feel right--his mama brought him out to explore, neptuniankit felt like to have a full experience, he needed to head out on his own and get to know the world from his own perspective, and not from her point of view. perhaps it wasn't the best decision to make when he was still a young child, but then again, children didn't always make the best decisions. they weren't expected to. it was time to take advantage of that while he still could.

he had wandered out of camp right at sunrise, venturing out while nobody was paying attention. his first order of business was to find somewhere to swim. he'd heard about it before, but he had never actually been swimming on his own. he had had dreams of it before for some reason, and it had piqued his curiosity enough for him to want to actually try it. the kitten was now searching for a stream or a pond where he could go for his first swim without worrying about the potential dangers of the fact that he was without anyone to watch over him.

Neptunianpaw hadn't meant to spent so long along. When he'd gone off exploring, he hadn't mean to get distracted, but he had. It had led to his absence for a few months, and when he had returned, he had discovered that his siblings were all apprentices now, and couldn't help but wonder when it happened. Immediately he had felt as if he needed to change his name, and had chosen to call himself by an apprentice name from now on. After all, it couldn't hurt, right? What would be the harm? The child had returned to the castle, wandering around as he searched for a room he could nap in for the time being.

Neptunianpaw was quiet as he listened to announcements being made by Saoirse. He had very little to say; of course he was proud of his siblings, and yet it only reminded him that he was lacking in comparison. He'd fallen behind and no amount of pride could cover up the fact that he felt terrible over disappearing for so long. The apprentice didn't speak up, keeping his mouth shut until the meeting was over. Once she'd finished speaking, he gave only a dip of his head as acknowledgement before he departed.

As he saw his mother, his mood improved vastly. The slight frown disappeared, to be replaced by a smile that seemed slightly forced, yet nevertheless it was genuine. "Oh... hi," he said, voice barely louder than a whisper. He tensed slightly as she leaned down and brushed her muzzle against his head, but he wouldn't pull away. Touch might make him uncomfortable, but he knew it was likely reassuring to her, and he didn't want to take that away from her.

"I just... I needed a little bit of time to figure things out. I thought it would be best to do it alone but I didn't mean to be gone for so long. I'm sorry," he murmured, mainly for Saturnrings to hear as opposed to everyone else who was arriving. They all had their own things to say, each different from the last.

"It's nice to meet you too, Lampetia," he said, raising his voice slightly, attempting to bring it up to a normal tone of voice, yet he still felt as if he was talking rather quietly. Nonetheless, he wasn't sure whether he should even try to raise his voice any louder. He gave a small, grateful smile towards Ver, most content with the way she approached the situation.

His gaze turned towards Cassiopeia for a moment. Something about her seemed familiar, but it was something he couldn't quite figure out. He pushed the thought out of his mind, simply giving a nod towards her. "Thanks," he said, looking down towards the ground now that all of his responses were out of the way.

Less than a week back here, and already things were changing. He hadn't had time to truly get to know Saoirse despite the relationships between his family members and herself, seeing as he had disappeared for quite a while early on in his life. Now, although he would mourn for her, he couldn't say he had any personal memories of the previous Overseer. The feline remained quiet as he listened to the rest of the meeting, not wanting to say anything in case it would be seen as disrespectful.

Neptunianpaw had no right to be here. Not in his mind, and he couldn't believe in anyone else's, either. His mother was up there, speaking of someone he had never gotten to know and couldn't truly grieve. Why did he deserve to stand here, to mourn her loss when he had next to no knowledge of who she had truly been? He didn't know what she was like, what her beliefs were, who she trusted, who she hated... He had no knowledge of Saoirse, and though he regretted never getting to know her better, he couldn't change things now. All he could do was sit back and listen to the ceremony, and hope she was content in whatever afterlife it was that she believed in.

That sounds good to me!! Should we see how things go naturally for a little bit before having a private thread, or do you want one now??

Despite the worry everyone else seemed to hold, Neptunianpaw felt oddly calm. His brother was smart and capable, and his mother was more than able to help him. He didn't doubt that Foxpaw would reach the ground entirely unharmed. The mostly white feline sat and watched, head tilted up to observe the situation as he waited for the rescue to be completed.

Neptunianpaw, unlike his brother, had a certain love for thunderstorms. Something about being able to be out in the world, beng able to give up that sense of control one had over their life, made things easier to bear for him. He wasn't sure why he felt this way; he only knew that for some reason, he always felt more at ease when he heard the rumblings of thunder, saw flashes of light, could hear the downpour of rain outside. He found himself wandering to the entrance to the castle, and yet what he found was that it was already occupied by two others. He made sure to give them space, sitting at the other side of the opening so that he could sit and relax while they conversed.

Neptunianpaw wasn't going to get involved in this. This wasn't any of his business; the Veil was a group he'd never come to meet, as far as he could remember, and what would be the point of doing so now? Sure, they were allies, but what did that mean, in the long run? It wasn't as if they would be seeing each other constantly, but he wouldn't voice his opinion out loud. He stayed quietly respectful, listening to the conversation without giving his own piece.

When Neptunianpaw heard that his mentor was going to be Cassiopeia, something about the situation felt... wrong. Backwards. He wans't sure why the decision nagged at him, but he felt strange bringing it up, and thus hadn't discussed it with anyone else. Instead, he did his best to push the feeling aside and move on. Part of that included being on time for his training under his new mentor. He stood a short distance from the castle, waiting for the other feline to appear and tell him what they would be doing today. He had no doubt she would have that hawk with her as well; the two seemed to be joined in some way, and it wasn't up to him to question that.

    CASSIOPEIA.
