No! No! Conepaw remembered Rockleap. He only had some leaves by a nearby tree but he rushed over and tried to clot the bleeding. His mentor yowled for someone, but Conepaw was a no one. He leaned in and nudged the tom, tearful and weeping.

"Rockleap...you met me under the starry sky...I thought we'd talk their more." He croaked out, limbs trembling.

Conepaw hadn't caught a thing during training. His fur was decorated in soft flowers and his paws were slick with mud. The tom was odd, empty-head and soft. His soft yellow eyes met the palest and prettiest ones he'd seen. She was so small, but she seemed well! Unlike he was as a kit. Briarkit was there too! And Driftingheart.

"Hey Mistkit!" Greeted the leader's apprentice, "Driftingheart. Briarkit. How are you?"

Birthing was the hardest thing a cat cpuld physically do. Shybloom was strong! And Conepaw liked her a lot. His paws sped all the way to the river when he heard. He slipped and fell right into a bush. Tangled and messy, the apprentice cane back with a mossball full of water.

"Shybloom, are they here?" He whispered before seeing the two soft bodies.

"I brought you some water- oh they are beautiful! So cute!" Squealed the little apprentice setting the ball beside the sweetest queen he knew.

Conepaw had been made aware through relation with Shybloom about the sightless kitten. Not that he saw the difference. He stuck his paw in and shifted the prey pile around until all the mice where lined up. He dipped his head towards Briarkit, silently telling her to stay quiet.

"I've moved all the mice in front of you. Can you reach your paws in? There's a big one I promise." Now the tom wasn't doing this out of meaness goodness knows. He knew what it was like to be mocked. He wanted her to do it herself and be proud. One day, she could be left alone as he had. It made him feel better to think soon she'd be old enough to pick out the biggest prey in the pile.

Conepaw was practicing his crouch still. Body low to the ground with legs evenly holding your weight. It felt like a lot to take in. Each paw had to be placed perfectly. Each muscle had to be coiled like a spring. He felt his rear touch the ground and he leaped, falling head first in front of the other apprentice. They laughed. He laughed with them and went to wash his head.

Briarkit wasn't playing with her kitmates anymore. Conepaw realized she must have needed something. Excitement? Or a new friend? He brushed the dirt from his head and trotted to meet up. Briarkit was already talking to Eagleblossom and it was rude to interrupt. Curiously, he listened in. He crept shyly closer and gave a bashful grin.

"Is it alright if you teach me too?" He asked. Maybe Eagleblosson would make more sense of this funny business.

Conepaw was sobbing with the kits. He loved that sweet queen who had been kind to him. He pulled Mistkit and Stormkit close to him. He was deaf to Cedarkit and Briarkit's screams. He just trird to console the little ones. "Shh ..Shhh...I know it hurts...I know..."

Conepaw could hear the kits bickering. His form smelled of washed up leaves as he grieved with them. His leader and Shybloom were dead. His tail curled around Owlkit, soothingly. It wasn't much but something wasn't nothing.

"I know this pain is crushing. The future looks scary. I lost my whole family when I was just a kit. Like you. But you are like my family. You kits. So if you need me. Say so. I'll be here." Conepaw said before looking at Frecklepaw.

His eyes thanked her more than words ever could.

Conepaw didn't get hunting. He ducked down to hide but rarely did he get anything. He was stumped and confused. A sharp noise to catch him though. The little apprentice looked up to see a rabbit fly by. He was far too stunned to notice. That rabbit was huge! But it was so fast, how could anyone? He didn't hear the footsteps, or realize he was in Eagleblossom's way.

"Safe travels." Conepaw piped up. He tried to clear the foggy air that swamped his clan. Not to say it didn't hurt but, Conepaw had already heard talk of foul play. His tail curled as he thought of full grown warriors attacking kits. He worried.

The air chilled. Must be Pitchstar making a trip back. Conepaw smiled and sat by Briarkit. His smile didn't faulter and he put a gentle paw on her head. "I'll help you watch them, Eagle. Besides Pitchstar wouldn't want us moping. He knows you've been good as could be. You'll be budding them out of trouble in no time."

Ah jokes, how Conepaw missed these.

    Cone needs a mentor again

"Never hunted rabbit. Should I go or stay here?" Conepaw asked.

He couldn't risk screwing this up when the clan was this hungry. He stopped and watched their new leader wide eyed. Could this be the start of something great?
