The question she'd tacked on there was clear rhetoric - she knew exactly what this territory was comprised of. An expression of curiosity had been allowed to grace her features, her leaning back on her heels as her clear gaze was drawn upwards towards the floating clumps of land that looked as though they had been torn at the scalp from the ground. She was a generally open-minded girl, and this was as exciting a territory as she'd ever seen. Floating islands...they were hardly a staple of clan territory. In an echo of the others' sentiments, she couldn't quite figure out how they worked, since they seemed to completely ignore the rules of gravity, suspended in the air. It would have come as no surprise if it was as Twain had suggested - magic, but she was used to seeing strange things so she didn't let it eat at her too much.


    In earnest, a part of her wanted to simply explore the territory instead of pondering it as they seemed to be preoccupied with doing - it went without saying that she hadn't had the luxury of much exploration when she was younger, due to her having been brought up in an orphanage that carried some of her more bitter memories. At the thought, she momentarily tugged on her sleeves to make sure they were covering her arms before smoothing out her frills to play this movement off as merely tidying her clothes rather than hiding some mark from long ago. Some of her more bitter memories...some of her most bitter memories. The Guild was her way out, so she would be careful about when she chose to use her voice and where she beat her path. The last thing she wanted was to be discarded again.


    She shook her head ever so slightly to clear those thoughts, her gaze flickering momentarily towards Fitzgerald, her superior, before it landed back on the sight ahead of them, tuning back in to what her associates were saying. She would remain taciturn through what they said for the moment, just letting the conversation play itself out. She heard Hawthorne and Mitchell bickering, a slight but suitably sunny smile tugging at her lips as she listened in [like Alcott, this was something she had played witness to many a time before, but in her case repetition had made it an almost fond sight], and was also made aware of a conversation about the temperature going on [albeit, said coldness lingering in the air didn't phase her too much - it would likely only get colder when they actually went up the staircase given how utterly high the suspended land masses were]. Instead of contributing to either of these conversations, she momentarily wondered what the people here would be like. Would there be many of them? Would they be kind? Would they talk to her or play with her? She hoped that all of these things could be answered in the affirmative. She did dread being left lonely. Oh, and then she suddenly reminded herself that if she was correct then there were certain formalities they needed to go through before being allowed to pass. It would have been no good for any organization or society to simply let people barge in, after all. She supposed they would just have to...wait, then?


    At this mental prompt, she would raise her almost child-like voice, laced with a curiosity that wasn't atypical of her, offering an interjection. "Is someone going to come for us? That's how this works, right?" were the words, rather off-kilter from the other words that had been flying around, she found herself releasing. There was no real complaint about their current condition in her voice, only a desire to know how this would play out. Montgomery's head tilted at a slight angle, beckoning anyone to respond who felt like it. Some of her comrades, and especially their leader, were more sharp with their words than others, but not so abrasive that they tended to impact her for a long time if they chose to respond negatively to this.
