Possessing a bit of a sweet tooth himself, he might have just chosen to take a crepe, had the circumstances been different. However, given how things were, the ones that now held his attention were the two dancers--a mandrill and a bat, from what he could tell. Such odd creatures they were; as many of those belonging to their organization seemed to be. He honestly couldn't help but wonder what had drawn them all to each other; perhaps each had been cast out of some other societies, and they'd formed a society of their own where every member had strange quirks and / or appearances, so that such became commonplace? Or...perhaps he was overthinking it? He really had no way of knowing if he didn't voice his thoughts; and he simply opted to keep it to himself for now, and thus his questions remained unsaid, unheard, and unanswered.

It was then that he heard the bat speak, and upon picking out the not-so-subtle implications in her words, Dazai would slowly raise a nonexistent brow in an inquisitive manner; before turning to regard the speaker, his expression one bordering on that of slight bewilderment. "How bold of you, to ask such a thing of someone in public," he would chuckle, though there was little to no humour in his tone. "And forgive me for interrupting, but our members do need their blood, miss. You'd do well to search elsewhere for a food source." The Mafia boss's tone was cordial enough, though anyone careful and attentive enough would be able to pick out the quietest edge in his voice, which clearly implied that he wouldn't be kind enough to keep up this 'friendly' act if they made any move he didn't quite approve of. He wasn't doing this out of fondness for the young assassin (since when had he ever displayed any genuine affection for anyone?); he was merely an individual who didn't harbor a proclivity for wasting his resources and such--a habit he supposed he'd picked up from his mentor, a long time ago.

"Ehh? Chuuya's actually [i]playing a game?" The ebony-furred male's shocked exclamation filled the silence as he strode into the scene with a largely-exaggerated look of surprise painted across his features. In a somewhat bewildered fashion, his dark, mahogany gaze would furtively flit between those present, a low light of curiosity surfacing from within their unfathomable depths. Well...this was a first. Never in a million years had he thought that he'd find the irritable caporegime willing to participate in such a trivial activity such as this, especially given the nature of the game itself. However...he wouldn't deign to give voice to those thoughts. While he too often found events like this to be rather dull, this did have the potential to become much more exciting than it initially seemed.

"Ah, anyway," he chirped while settling back on his haunches, a cheerful note lending itself to his voice, I'll play too! I wouldn't miss out on seeing Chuuya embarrass himself for the world~!" Though his tone was as innocent as innocent could get, his eyes sparkled with the worst sort of humor. He fully intended on asking the hardest questions possible, and putting all his months of honing his skills of manipulation to good use in order to force everyone else into the most uncomfortable situations possible--all for the sake of acquiring new gossip or knowledge of past and/or current scandals that, in the future, he could use as blackmail material or something along those lines. This was nothing new for him, of course--he really was an individual with a terrible personality, there was simply no denying it.

After all, Chuuya jealously guarded his alcohol like a dragon would its precious gemstones; and if one were to continue using that analogy, he would also not hesitate to lash out at those that coveted his treasures. Despite having been the irritable male's partner for quite some time now, Dazai had never before witnessed the other actually slaughter or punish another for attempting to smuggle a bottle or two out from Chuuya's private quarters, though he had certainly heard the rumours. Whether or not they were all true remained to be seen, but in all his experience with so-called 'idle' gossip and hearsay, he'd found that every lie still possessed a grain of truth. Yes--being sensible and well-informed (contrary to what some may think, due to the cheerful and whimsical front he liked putting up), the young Mafia boss knew this all too well, and had a good grasp of what would come to pass should anyone be stupid enough to intentionally provoke the individual he'd long ago so 'affectionately' (that is, according to Mori-san; his mentor was one who never failed to come up with the most ridiculous of assumptions) dubbed: "the annoying(ly short) hat store".

So why, pray tell, was he attempting--but oh, wait, he already had...so why on earth, would someone like himself--the favoured and most successful protégé of a creature known to many as a "master of logic"--have chosen to do something so incredibly foolish as snatch a bottle of imported Chateau 1889 Petrus from his partner's rack?

It certainly wasn't because he was suffering from depression--hah, as if; he was at the prime of his life right now, and such was what he would tell anyone who inquired as much. It wasn't because he had an addiction (no, no, Chuuya was the alcoholic, not him). While he did drink fairly often, it was rarely in excess...though, not that it mattered much, seeing as his tolerance for the stuff reached absurdly high levels.

You see, if asked the aforementioned question, he'd state--in the most nonchalant fashion he was capable of affecting--that it had really just been on a whim.

He wasn't depressed--not now, and nor would he ever be; and the chances of such a development occurring were so slim that they weren't worth mentioning. His suicidal tendencies, however, strongly implied the contrary--but he could, for certain, say that it wasn't any sort of sadness that had caused him to develop such a peculiar mania.

(To be honest, he himself wasn't entirely sure what had started it all--life with the Port Mafia had never truly been devoid of good fun. Chuuya provided him with endless entertainment, and made a good partner when it came to both verbal jousts and physical spars; Kouyou-neesan was typically who he sought out when he longed for more refined company and relaxing ways to pass the time, and Akutagawa--his own apprentice--was a great source of characterological and psychological studies. Mori-san was a fearsome chess player, and Dazai almost always lost; and members of the Black Lizard were always cute and rowdy. The rewards he'd reaped were quite handsome, and the jobs were, granted, a bit too easy, but every once in a while, a good mission had come along: one that caused him to exert a little more effort than usual--enough so that he felt it in the soreness of his limbs the day after, and the blessed feeling of accomplishment that pervaded his thoughts and left his mind in a refreshing state of blankness.

Perhaps it had started somewhere between all the killing and the lying and...well, just the general insouciance of his line of work. Perhaps it had started with the fact that he saw too much death, and had never really gotten a firsthand glimpse of it all. Perhaps it was because he was haunted by his actions--a thought that was as hilarious as it was unlikely.

Perhaps it had been because he'd gotten bored. As silly and simple as it was, in all seriousness, this is the most probable of all the motivations he'd been able to brainstorm that might have caused him to develop such an unhealthy affinity for the act of taking one's own life.)

Oh, but really, what could he say? Even after dismissing his aspirations of committing the most grandiose, glorious, and evocative suicide the world has ever seen, it had always been known that he was an individual who simply loved living dangerously.

The bandage-encased male now sat comfortably atop of the many luxuriant couches in the lobby of the Port Mafia's grand abode, with the bottle of wine opened, and several glasses--some full, some empty--on the table in front of him. Cheerfully humming a tune he'd made up several days ago, he then proceeded to pour the rest of the bottle's contents into the pieces of crystalware that had yet to be filled, before haphazardly tossing the emptied container to the side, and raising his voice to catch the attention of nearby NPCs, as well as that of anyone else on the ground floor, "Hellooo? Does anyone want a drink~?" He was feeling rather generous today...well, that is, if being generous with someone else's possessions still counted as 'generous', anyway.
