ACT 2, SCENE 1.
Idol happily made his way to the edge of a large rock so that he could look up at the night sky. The broken robot looked up to the stars and gave a small smile to the darkness above. He felt like his life had gone in so many directions...and it was if as if he was worried that his next turn would be his last. So much...So very much had happened to the robot. First he was a very famous and popular idol, but then all that was torn away by one person, the same person who tore him apart, and the person who made him go from the top to the very bottom.
He had been at the bottom, but then he found Windclan. He didn't mean to, really. Honestly, he thought that he'd be begging for the rest of his life until someone tried to kill him. Windclan surprised him with kindness, and someone taking him in that reminded him of when he was popular and well known...well those days were over. He seemed so calm, so simple to understand back then, well, Idol had never known about any of the Fusion stuff at that point, and even now it was sort of confusing to him.
Taken in, Idol discovered that other species had the same desires to be great as he did, even if they were a bit clumsy about it. Two legs trying to act was fun to watch for him, even if most others didn't understand in the slightest, he did, and he really liked the fact that he understood such aspirations in all creatures. Then there was that book, spanish folklore. That's when he really met Araneolus. The spider was so kind to him, helping him gain inspiration to not stop trying to do what he loved.
He had met Bromalgate a bit later. He'd never looked at someone for so long. He'd been untrusting of him at first, which was of course understandable, but Idol felt as if the creature would be a good friend. Soon enough, he felt as if Bro could be a protector of sorts. He certainly looked like someone who could be dangerous...if they really wanted to, but they mostly were scared, which sort of made Idol sad, but what could he do?
Then there was that mask...You know what? Let's just forget about the mask. It had made Idol hate himself more, if that was possible. It made him feel foolish for trying to look pretty, for trusting something that had been on the ground for hell knows how long. It ruined his house, his clothes, his friendships no doubt. The mask was his worst mistake yet, but he still had it around...just because it still made him feel somewhat confident and pretty.
All these thoughts flew in Idol's mind as he looked at the sky, suddenly remembering why he'd wanted to be pretty. He wanted to be pretty so that he could reclaim his glory that was forever lost to the abyss of the past. He did however, decide to sing a small tune to see if he could imagine himself back in his glory days. His voice was soft in a way, but the dark night's empty cool air seemed to carry it as much as a normal animal's speaking voice.
"I'm high above the city.
I'm standing on the ledge.
The view from here is pretty.
And I step off the edge."
The feline put one paw over the air in front of the ledge he was currently singing on. He giggled a little at the feeling of the lyrics and his situation mixing together perfectly. This sort of made him get up on all fours and try to project his voice a bit more, but not too much as to avoid most if not all attention from other windclanners.
"Now I'm fallin', Baby through the sky.
Through the sky.
I'm fallin' baby, through the sky.
It's my calling baby, don't you cry.
Don't you cry.
I'm falling down through the sky!"
Idol then walked down the rock to get back to the ground, which didn't take long since the top of the rock actually wasn't more than 3 feet above the ground. He then walked across the ground in tune with his singing, seeming to become more and more confident as he realized nobody was there to see him belting out showtunes.
"Towards the street that I'm from.
Oh, Broadway here I come.
Broadway, here I come!
The pressure it increases,
The closer that I get.
I could almost go to pieces!
But I'm not quite there yet!
See, I've been braving crazy weather!
Drowning out my cries!
I pull myself together,
I'm focused on the prize!"
Idol seemed absolutely estatic at this point, running quickly to one of the slightly taller rocks in the area and jumping on the natural pedestal of sorts. He then looked up towards the sky again, a grin on his broken face as he imagined the stars as stage lights, and his performance being watched by a loving audience, all who wanted to see the beautiful idol sing.
"I'm fallin', baby
Through the sky, through the sky
I'm fallin', baby through the sky
It's my callin', baby
Don't you cry, don't you cry
'Cause I'm fallin' down through the sky
And it's a tune you can hum
Oh, Broadway here I come"
Idol then paused a bit, letting the music in his head give a large musical break. He hadn't realized this at this point, but his head's music was coming from his body as well, the tune being sung by his vocal cords and the music coming from a speaker somewhere in his robotic body. He then sat down from a moment, looking up at the stars in the sort of way that an actor would pretend that they were remembering things, except Idol wasn't faking it. He really was thinking about all those things he had thought before, but it didn't really hurt him in a way that made him miss his next internal musical cue to sing. His voice coming out a bit louder than the last lyrics had been as his sitting body raised itself a bit, but then going down again to seem to calm down for the lyrics' meaning to go through."
"Will I remain the same
Or will I change a little bit?
Will I feel broken or totally complete?
Will I retain my name when I'm the biggest, hugest hit?
Or will I blend in with the rest of the street?
The people all are pointing.
I bet they'd never guess,
That the saint that they're anointing,
Is frightened of the mess.
But even though I fear it,
I'm playin' all my cards...
Baby, you are gonna hear it,
When I give them my regards."
As the next ring of the chorus came up, the robot jumped to his paws and seemed to blare out the lyrics like a megaphone had been attached to his mouth. He had forgotten where he was at this point. He wasn't ContaminatedIdol, the Beggar turned warrior of windclan. He was Idol, robotic feline star known for his acting roles that everybody loved. So, the black feline put a paw to the sky as he sang, lifting his body up a bit on his other paws as if to get closer to the stars and moon, his spotlights.
"I'm fallin' baby
Through the sky, through the sky
Now I'm fallin', baby through the sky
It's my callin', baby
Don't you cry, don't you cry
And I'm fallin' down through the sky"
Idol then suddenly jumped down from the rock, dismounting onto the ground without a single injury, as if this sudden confidence burst had made him able to survive any fall he had to go through. His voice became the loudest he could ever remember. At this point, he felt the stars shine a bright path from him to follow inbetween the two rocks he had just belted the tune from. As Idol walked through the sort of spotlighted path, he sang, his notes becoming longer, as most notes did when the showtune songs were about to end.
"And I refuse to go numb.
Oh, Broadway here I come.
Broadway, here I come.
Broadway, here I come!
Oh, Broadway, Broadway, here I come!
Here I come!"
He then held that once note, on the word "come" for a obviously long while, his eyes seeming to have stars in them for a second as his mouth expelled the continuation of the note. From in front of him, it seemed like his shadow was against the moon like a star right before the spotlight showed their enthusiastic face ready to perform for another day. The feline had an obvious smile as he got softer for the beginning of the end.
And the last thing I hear.
As the impact grows near..."
The idol then put a paw to his torn up ear and continued to sing, holding out a long note on the end of the lyric, his voice getting louder and more operatic as he went through the line.
"Is it a scream or a cheer?"
The feline then seemed to quicken his singing pace, putting his paw down and smiling as he walked to the edge of where the star's lights shined down on him. He sat down as well, his hind legs making impact with the ground as his front paws seemed to swing happily to the tune as his song ended, a smile pointed towards what he saw as nothing in Windclan, but something much more in his mind. In his mind, it was a crowd of adoring fans, and his friends, all proud of him and waiting to applaud for him as he finished the tune.
"Well, never mind, I'll never find out.
'Cause Broadway I am here."
And after a few seconds of Idol standing there at the end of the song, he saw the lights from the moon and stars get covered up by a cloud, engulfing him and his little set of two stones and a walkway between them in complete and utter darkness. Idol couldn't hear applause, like most would at the end of an amazing solo, but...that just made him a bit happy. It had only been him, and the music...nobody had heard...Right?
