OOC:
Comes in a week late with a bad starter post
Apologies! Finals has left me little time or muse the past week. I should be pretty free by the weekend, though! Hopefully.

Arranged marriage was something that Alexander had grown up without much of an opinion on. He was of royal descent, so of course he was very familiar with the idea, but it had never directly affected him enough to where he actually had to think about it. Lately though, he'd been dwelling on it an awful lot. His parents were talking about - or insisting, rather - that they needed more money in the family. More power. Of course, what better solution to come to them than to marry off their only child to another royal family? The connections would surely be amazing enough to bring great fortune to the family and kingdom. Apparently. Honestly, Alexander didn't see that much value in it. The alliance itself would be great for them, sure, but fortune? He believed that they had enough of that already. But, if his parents had set their minds to getting their son wed, there wasn't much he could do to stop it, except perhaps to protest. It was doubtful that would do anything positive, though. And as far as he knew, the plans were already in motion.
He'd made his peace with it, as much as he could manage. As a prince, he was slave to his kingdom, and to the King and Queen. He didn't really want to get married, but that wasn't his choice. It couldn't be all that awful, could it? Although, his mother had refused to say much about who he was being set up with, claiming it was meant to be a 'surprise'. That seemed a bit foolish. Why couldn't he know anything about the person he would be spending the foreseeable future with? All he knew was that they were male, apparently, and Alexander didn't see how that sort of pairing could be beneficial to the family in the future, but he wasn't complaining. His parents didn't exactly know about his preferences, but if he was being forced to marry someone, he'd be far happier with a husband, rather than a wife.
So, yes, he tried to see the good side of the situation, and refused as much as he could to think about the fact that he might not even like this person. Might hate them. The fear of being married to someone he couldn't stand was actually quite strong, but Alexander forced it down with pleasant, wondering thoughts. What sort of food did they enjoy? What did they do in their free time? He was a bit of a secret romantic in that way, finding enjoyment in little wonders like that. That was probably why the idea of soulmates, rare as they were to find, fascinated him so much. His parents weren't destined for one another. They'd never been able to take away one another's scars, and had plenty of them to prove that fact. They'd married for money, and that was pretty common in the people Alexander had gotten to know over the years. To be truthful, he didn't actually know anyone who'd found their soulmate. He supposed that was understandable, though. They were, apparently, greatly difficult to find.
That didn't stop him from wishing, though. Now that he was arranged to be married, his wishes seemed even more fleeting, but Alexander still wanted to meet his soulmate. He didn't really understand why people didn't put more value in finding the person meant just for them. But, money and power seemed to be the more important things. While he agreed that they were useful to keeping the kingdom safe and running properly, he'd always found it a bit odd that people didn't put as much value on things like love. His parents had apparently 'learned' to love one another, and they got along well enough, but that didn't seem fair somehow.
With a sigh, the man ran a hand through his hair as he stood, clearing his head of all his wistful thoughts of soulmates and love. That sort of thing wasn't important anymore. He was due to finally meet his betrothed soon, and while he still had no desire to marry them, he'd be damned if he acted rude just because his mind was elsewhere. Alexander was at least going to put in the effort to make this work, even if not for anyone else but himself. He was a selfish person, and desired happiness in his own life. He left his room with that plan in mind, walking down the halls in search of his mother and father. Realistically, they would probably be sitting down for lunch right now, but one could never be sure what would come up to halt previous plans in their tracks.
He approached the dining hall at a steady pace, pushing open the doors with a simple flourish that came naturally after a lifetime of having people's eyes constantly watching him. The King was absent from the room, but the Queen was sitting down in her usual spot, papers laid out in front of her, rather than a meal. That wasn't anything unusual, either. [b]"Hello," he greeting simply, only to get her attention, since she apparently hadn't noticed the sound of the door opening.
Looking up, she smiled lightly at him. "Oh, Alexander. Hello. Come, sit down, Dear," she hummed, gesturing to the seat across from her's at the table. He complied silently, walking over and easing into the seat. "Today's the day. Are you excited?" He could practically hear the joy in her voice. She was more excited for this than he was, he knew, but he wasn't going to say that out loud. Besides, they were only meeting today. The wedding would come later. Although, it would probably still be far too soon. But, instead of admitting any of those negatives to his mother, he simply nodded.
"It'll certainly be... interesting."[/fancypost]©BOKEH
