Jonathan had been certain he was going to die that night. Pain had pounded throughout his body, like fire rushing through his veins, but not letting him burn. It began at his neck, and rushed down through to his toes, leaving him writhing in the snow at the edge of the forest, just behind his house. His mother had been inside, and he half wished she had come outside looking for him, but now was glad that she hadn't. He was a monster now, and his mother would most likely be dead if she ever found him. Anyone would be. The pain wasn't in his veins anymore. No, it had moved on once the 'transformation' had been completed. Now, Jonathan suffered from a new pain. It burned in his throat, and gnawed at his long since empty stomach. It was killing him, but he wouldn't die.

That's why he decided to leave. Jonathan wasn't going to kill his mother, or anyone else. But, if he came into contact with anyone, his hunger would take over. He knew that he wouldn't be able to control himself, so the only option was to go where there was nobody. A place where he could live out the rest of his life in pain, and alone. It was sad, and it made Jonathan angry, but it was better than murder.

He had grabbed a few things in his school backpack that morning before immediately rushing to the only place where he knew he would be alone. The forest behind his house had always been dark. The trees were tall, barely letting in light, even in the daytime. Jonathan had never been too scared of it, so he had sometimes spent time after school exploring. Now though, he walked further in than he ever had before. He walked until he couldn't smell the scent of his own house anymore. He wanted to be thoroughly lost, to never be able to get out, or be found.

He had left a note for his mom, telling her not to look for him. He was eighteen now, and he held out hope that she would be trusting enough to let him make his own decisions about his newly found adult life. Still, mothers were protective, especially his, and he didn't know how long anything would last.

Jonathan knew that it was nighttime again when he finally stopped, sitting on the trunk of a fallen tree. His body wasn't tired, but his mind was. The constant pain wore him out faster than he had hoped, so he stopped moving. With eyes closed, Jonathan leaned his head back, finally somewhat relaxed.

    Plot:

Jonathan is a recently graduated eighteen year old. He has also just recently had the misfortune of being turned into a vampire. Distraught at the revelation that he now needs blood to survive, he flees from home into the dark forest, which few are brave enough to enter. Still, plans never go as attended.

Your character notices Jonathan walking out into the forest, and doesn't think much of it at first. But, as time goes on and he doesn't come back, your character becomes determined to find out why he's disappeared (How they might know each other is up to you.) They travel into the forest alone after Jonathan, on a search for him. But, they don't realize just how deadly he is now.

Dylan drove home, munching on one of the candy bars he had taken from the gas station as he went. Normally, he would stop at some restaurant to get something to eat, but at the moment he would rather solve the issue of hunger quickly and just go home instead. Maybe he would take a nap, or get drunk, since his blood levels were probably getting better by now. Even if they weren't, he could drink as much he wanted alone in the safety of his house. He also thought about finding another job to do, but that probably wouldn't be in his own best interest. How rude of him it would be, to throw away Samuel's work keeping him alive.

Still, it slightly worried Dylan how often he found himself thinking about Samuel now. It was a common problem he faced. Dylan wasn't used to people being kind to him, in any form. So, if anyone did, he found himself getting overly emotionally attached to them. That was another reason he tried to avoid people in general. What was the point of getting attached if he never saw them again?

Plagued by self deprecating thoughts, he pulled up in front of the small building he called home. Dylan locked the car, stumbling inside and immediately going down the hall to his room, collapsing on the bed. He just wanted to stop thinking or feeling for a day or two.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

When Dylan woke up, he groaned unhappily, trudging into the bathroom. He dug through the cabinet there, searching for a bottle of painkillers. He found them, taking a few with a gulp of water from the sink. He sighed then, knowing that there was no food to be spoken of inside the house. Plus, there were ten messages on his cellphone from different hunters, all detailing different jobs across the country that he was free to take. Honestly, it was stressing him out a bit.

He eventually decided to go get something to eat, and listen to those messages while he did so. He had to change his clothes first though, as the general public didn't usually like someone walking into their store covered in blood.

With the pain in his arm dulled, and in fresh clothes, Dylan walked out to his car, choosing to eat at a small diner on the edge of town, close to the park.

[align=center]It was dark, as the man paced quietly over the few feet of ground in front of his room door. Currently, he had purchased a small room to sleep in for the duration of his stay in this town, but he was a bit too agitated to sleep. Jobs like this always kept him up later than he liked. Plus, he was on this one for longer than any other. It just seemed like there would be no solution. He eventually stopped moving, and ran a hand through his short brown hair with a sigh.

Derek had been hired to investigate some mishaps that had been going on recently. Mostly they were rumors, as nobody had any idea who the culprit was. However, there were plenty of bodies. Bodies that had been drained of blood, and then cast aside carelessly. The rumors lead to vampires, which given the evidence, seemed pretty likely. Still, that left Derek with a couple of problems. The first one being that nobody knew who these apparent vampires were, or how to track one down. Secondly, he'd never killed a vampire before. With the job title of assassin, it was pretty hard for him to finish something without killing his target. He would have to figure it out as he went.

He'd been chasing bodies through multiple towns. There hadn't been any in this town yet, and he hoped that maybe that meant that one would show up at some point. That left Derek playing a waiting game, which wasn't one of his favorite things to do. He would much rather be actively moving.

Dylan was well known at this town's restaurants. He didn't ever have the energy to cook for himself, and the area was small, so he was a frequent visitor. It was beneficial, because he could do some work there without anyone bothering him, asking what he was up to. He ordered his usual meal before pulling out his phone, slowly listening to each message, and jotting down the information in an old notebook that he kept in his car. He used it to keep track of numbers, job information, and other important bits of information that he wouldn't have been able to memorize otherwise.

It took practically his whole meal to go through all of it, and by the end he had a headache. Honestly, sometimes the job was too stressful. With relief in mind, he decided to walk the short distance to the bar that was only a few doors from the diner.

Dylan's eyes widened in surprise when he noticed a familiar face sitting at the counter. "I didn't expect to run into you so soon, you know." He said, walking over to stand next to Samuel.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dylan ordered a drink of his own and sat down on the free stool next to Samuel, leaning against the bar counter so he could face the other man more directly. He chuckled, shaking his head a bit. "Well, like you said; can't blame a man for needing a few drinks." He shrugged, taking his drink from the bartender and having a sip.

He was vaguely aware of the small notebook stuffed into a pocket on the inside of his jacket, along with the knife he carried on him. Dylan felt a bit foolish carrying it around with him. What if Samuel, or another person were to find out. He carried it for safety, but how were they to understand that? "But yeah, you can ask whatever you want, man." A statement he didn't necessarily mean, but most questions he would answer. Just not all of them.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dylan raised his eyebrows a bit in surprise, and he couldn't help but to chuckle nervously. That was one question he hadn't planned on being asked, but he nodded in agreement anyways. "Yeah, you can have it." he said with a nod, taking a big gulp of his drink, so he wouldn't have to speak again for a few moments. "But, if I'm going to the trouble of giving it to you, you have to use it." he teased, despite the embarrassment he felt at the situation. It wasn't one that he was in a lot, and dealing with it was new to Dylan.

Derek had eventually given up with pacing, and sat down on the ground where he was standing, his back leaning against the door. He didn't even bother going all the way to the bed. Besides, he could hear what was going on outside better when he was closer to the door. The wood they used for them was apparently thinner than the walls.

He closed his eyes, and just listened. It was something of a talent, but it would probably be better to describe it as an acquired skill. Derek had trained his ears, along with his other senses to be better, so his work as an assassin would go over easier. He could hear the wind blowing, and an old tree branch brushing against one of the walls of his room. He also heard a... banging noise?

The strange sound made Derek open his eyes again, tilting his head just slightly to the side to get a better listen. It wasn't necessarily a banging, and the noise wasn't consistent. It was also very quiet. Almost too quiet to hear. However, he did know that there was something odd happening on the outside of the inn. He decided that the best option would be to wait it out. Just going and yanking his window open didn't seem like a smart idea. He would sit right where he was and wait, to see what happened.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dylan shook his head as he took the phone, navigating to the contacts page and adding his name and number in there. Honestly, the phone was in better shape than he had expected for a guy who stole his money out of cashboxes, so it wasn't as sorry as it could have been. "I've got a job. I was just coming back from a business trip when we met." he said as he typed into the phone. Not technically a lie. Again. Half-lies were the way Dylan got through life while staying alive.

When Samuel suddenly asked for his phone back, turning away from him, Dylan was a bit confused. Well, suspicious would be a better word, but he practically lived in a state of suspicion anyway. Still, he returned the phone to it's owner. "Hey, are you alright?"

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dylan was confused, to say the least. He was partially confused by Samuel, and the man's odd actions, but he was also confused with himself. His self confusion stemmed from not wanting to get close to other people, and deep down Dylan knew that. It still didn't make it an easier situation to deal with, when suddenly he wanted... something with a guy he had just met. A guy who confused him even more. It was an odd situation he had found himself in.

He sighed, staying seated at the bar, and ordering another drink. Dylan realized then, that he didn't even have Samuel's number, the other man had his. That meant waiting for whenever he decided to call. That was disappointing. But, if Dylan wanted to talk to Samuel, he figured that was a feeling that would be better left ignored for now. He distracted his mind by pulling out the very notebook he had come to the bar to forget, and read through the information there again. Maybe he would be well enough soon, so he could go on another job.
