Get offended and she'll laugh in your face about how you need to "shut the fuck up and get over it." That's just her. Other times she may be giving you shit is because she's upset and needs to get things off of her chest. If you're a friend and she takes all of her anger off of you, she won't apologize straight up as she has her own way of saying she's sorry, which mostly consists of light-hearted insults. You'll know she's genuine because her eyes will betray her emotion.
Now, it's not intentional all the time for Parks' behavior, not at all. Unfortunately, she suffers from a disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder, or BPD. BPD causes Parks' emotions and thoughts to be altered greatly. It is an inability to manage and express her feelings normally, and Parks can't handle that. With a brain filled with nothing but unresting chaos, it's overwhelming and Parks grows frustrated. Frustration turns to anger, anger turns to violence, and violence turns to hurt and regret. She speaks with her fists rather than her heart. It's impulse and she can't help it. While BPD is the main cause for Parks' destructive ways, it's also because of the people she grew up with. Parks was raised around nothing but negativity. She had two parents who constantly fought with each other and neglected her of emotional support when one parent upped and left in the middle of the night without a trace. It didn't help when someone else walked into her life. Her mother's new lover. Parks wasn't over the disappearance of her dad and never knew how to cope with loss. She was withdrawn, cold, and isolated. Maverick Paine, was this man's name. A hard, tough guy for sure. Parks didn't like him and the feeling was mutual.
He had put Parks down more times than she could count. Her feelings weren't valid, she needed to get over whatever she was strung up about, sit down and shut up, her opinions don't matter, she'd never amount to anything, she had no future. Hearing that had messed her up pretty bad, resulting in the loss of the little self-esteem she had to begin with. Then came the outcasts, the fuck-ups, the nobodies at school. They were the crowd the normal kids were warned to stay away from at all costs. Being involved with them had taught Parks that feelings were weak. You didn't need them if you wanted to survive in a world like this. Parks listened. She abandoned compassion, empathy, benevolence, and altruism back at the door.
Instead of musing over the words of her mother's boyfriend, she accepts them. She decides she's gonna live up to that. That's the only thing she figures she's good at, anyways.
Though there seems to be nothing but negatives when describing Parks, this 'hardened' personality is really a front Parks put up to hide her true self. She's vulnerable, sensitive, easy to upset, and scared. Typically it's not people who upset her, but it's actually Parks herself. Her explosive temper comes from Parks' inability to properly express and talk about what she feels in her heart rather than what she hears in her head. Parks gets so frustrated with herself when she can't be true others or herself. The only way she thinks she can let go of that negativity is through self-destructing ways. It's the only thing she knows. Truly, Parks understands that whatever she's doing is not helping her at all and it never will.
But, something that you wouldn't know about Parks on a basic friend or acquaintance level is that she's plagued by the emotions of emptiness, anxiety, and sadness. Come with BPD, follows a deep depression. She feels she's alone with no one but herself. She longs for the sensation of feeling whole, not like a lifeless corpse. Of course, she'd rather let herself drown in the depths of her own pain and despair rather than reaching out for help. It all seems she refuses just for the fact she doesn't want help, but truly it's because she doesn't know how. Calling out to someone is difficult, especially when helping yourself is an unnatural process. If you ever try to confront Parks and ask her to open up, she'll push you away. The more you poke and prod at her inner shell, the more Parks will build her walls up and distance herself from you. She'll try her very hardest to make things difficult to the point you want to give up and just might do so. And when you finally decide to leave, Parks will make it seem like she never cared and that you didn't mean a thing to her in the first place, though deep down she knows she cares a hell of a lot.
Despite her broken exterior, Parks' interior is truly something magnificent. Deep down, Parks is a creative soul with talents to share. Even amongst the midst of demons in her head, there is an oasis of angels. Gifted with such, Parks mind likes to wonder. Her thoughts are usually recorded upon white paper, written through unique forms of poetry. She also has a knack for drawing. Like a droplet of rain hitting against the fragile glass frame of a window, her fingers continue to trace thin lines against the grains of a canvas sheet until they form into a story of her own. It's really a cathartic release against the anvils that are pressed against her chest. Her voice has a mind of its own as well. Sure, most of the things that come out of her mouth are vulgar swears and threats, but she does use it for peaceful purposes. Instead of words, she uses songs. Blessed with a voice that's angelic, yet powerful and rough, Parks puts her bustling mind at ease using the melodic and relaxing tunes of song. Her voice is strong, able to carry notes that you never would've thought she could produce. Everything comes from the pit of her heart and you can definitely hear that when listening to her sing. The pain, the sadness, the joy, and the relief. You can hear it all. Raw emotion straight to your ears.
Those are not the only positive Parks possess. While she thinks she left any kindness back in the hands of her shattered soul, remains still float about. Truly, Parks is a sweet and caring human being. For friends, she's loyal like a dog. No matter how much you may piss her off or make her upset, she will stick by your side through thick and thin. Sure, she's not the best support system around, but you better believe she tries her absolute hardest to help in any way she can. Even through the smallest gestures, Parks will make it known that's she's here. She's goofy with a bright sense of humor that can lighten your day even with the smallest crack of a joke. And her smile. Oh god, her smile. Like the sun's bright beams that shed light on the earth, Parks' rare smiles are easily compared to the beautiful radiation of that of a sunrise. Seeing her happy is just an amazing thing in itself. Don't ever take it for granted.
Romantically, Parks isn't one to fall easily, but when she does, she falls hard. At first, Parks doesn't understand her feelings for an individual until everything comes crashing down and the realization hits. She'll try to deny any feeling of affection she has for that person and invalidate it. It's not like Parks doesn't like to get attached, it's just that she's afraid to. Parks considers herself to be a fuck-up for the most part. She has the mindset of, "Why would you fall for someone like me. I'm not good for you." and she'll make sure to tell them that in hopes of them losing interest. In all honesty, Parks doesn't want them to get hurt. Instead, she thinks they deserve better. Someone who isn't emotionally and mentally unstable with a temper they can't control, someone who's confident inside and out, someone who's everything she's not, someone that isn't her. But if Parks and that individual do spark some sort of romantic relationship, she will, and I seriously mean will put her all into it. She's not exactly the affectionate type and tends to get shy when she's shown it. Parks may grow a little awkward or hesitant, but don't think much of it, genuine love is not something she's used to.
