That, and he owned a dog. It was of course, the man's canine companion that interested the teenager. During her time alone she'd seen dogs, but none like this one. The animals she'd seen had been feral animals, riddled with disease and, much like the people with whom they shared this world, fighting to the death over the simple matter of survival. Murdoc's dog, on the other hand, was simply beautiful. A medium sized female with pale speckled fur, contrasting so much with the matted coats of the mongrels she'd gotten so used to seeing.

Now she approached the bitch with a slight air of uncharacteristic nervousness. Glancing up at the old man, she didn't speak as she plopped down onto the ground with her legs crossed next to the canine and tentatively held her closed fist inches away from its face in a silent request for contact.[/fancypost]
