okay, the legal age for alcohol and sex and all those Adult Things was 12 moons, but gem was still excited. they didn't really know why. just let them have this, alright?
gem had been away again, and this was a good way to announce their return, in their opinion. a party, a way to remind everyone that they were still the same person outside their slump. even if maybe hypothetically they weren't really feeling it right now, a good party would definitely solve that problem. and besides, their best friend was back! she probably wouldn't be here tonight, but she'd be here in spirit (not an actual spirit, thank god), which was good enough for gem. all in all, they figured the only way to get out of this mood was to shove fake happiness down their own throat have some fun. make some fun.
the party itself was a small affair with the potential to become a giant blowout swinging-off-the-western-style-chandeliers affair. directly inside the house, there was a moderately large, airy dining room that was laden with food and many beverages, all alcoholic (though there was some apple juice set aside for any kids that decided they were cool enough to show up. kotoko, probably), and there was dance music pumping quietly through a pair of portable speakers on a shelf to the side of the room with space for dancing. unbeknownst to anyone in the clan, gem had claimed a house near the town center a couple of days earlier, had sent anonymous invitations around the previous night, and was currently camped just outside the door, peeking quickly through the curtains now and then.
even though there was still misery pooled in gem's gut, there was excitement fluttering around their ribcage. they were excited to be back, to see everyone again, to get back into the swing of things. so, at 8 o'clock (more or less), gem swung open their front door and announced their return.
"hiiiii!"
