Water watched in horror as he fell. She pawed at him, mewing, "Wing? Wing! Wake up, Wing!" She pushed him, feeling his fur grow cold. She lifted her head and yowled out, her heart and voice full of anguish and despair. She had lost everything- her family, her true love, and now her crush. She felt as if she couldn't go on. But, she had to. She had to fufill Wing's tragic death. She had to tell Leaf her last kit's name. Standing on shaky paws, she walked back to camp, dragging Wing's lifeless body behind her. Once she entered camp, she laid him in the center of the clearing. She walked into the nursery and mewed to Storm and Leaf, "Come with me."

Water completely lost it, tears rolling down her cheeks. She fell to the ground, watching Wing disappear into the wind. She yowled, "Wing! Why did you leave?!? Oh, Wing, oh, my strong Wing..." She felt the tears lift from her cheeks, following the wind carrying Wing's dust in the air. She dug her claws into the ground, her tail lashing. She yelled angrily, "Why did you take him??? Why? He was supposed to stay here! I will never look to the sky again!" She jumped up and raced out of camp, her claws tearing up the ground behind her.

Water crossed the river, swimming to the other side. She ran up the other side of the cliff, trotting into the forest. She looked around, the scenery breath-taking. Her paws trailed through a sparkling stream, the spray coating her fur. She smiled and breathed in fresh air. Water trotted on, making her way through the forest. She poked her head in to a potential den, but she shook her head at the stench of badger. She tried again, but still nothing. Climbing a tree, she found a hole the size of her head. Climbing in, she found it roomy. Smiling, she jumped out and grabbed some leaves and twigs. Water laid them down in the hole and curled up. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Water opened her eyes to the setting sun, blinking rapidly. She widened her blue eyes, standing up and stretching. She climbed out onto the branch and jumped down gracefully, landing neatly on the ground. She smelled the air, catching the scent of a squirrel. Smiling, she followed the smell, seeing a furry tail among the undergrowth. She crept up, wiggling her haunches. She flew forward, a flurry of fur and leaves showing that she had caught the squirrel. She set it down and buried it and went to find a mouse, a vole, and two pigeons.

Water brought her catch to the tree, wondering where she would put them. Finding a hole underneath, she dug out leaves and twigs and left them in there. She grabbed a mouse and hopped up the tree, walking into her little den. She ate in peace, feeling content. She curled up and fell asleep, thinking, I survived my first night as a loner. This is gonna be easy as catching a deaf rabbit.
