Being trusted brought strange combinations of feelings with it- which she supposed made sense, given that the exchange of trust was usually a double-edged sword for both parties. On one hand, having someone else's trust often simplified things in the long run; on the other, it only stung all the worse if you screwed up, knowing that you were letting someone down so completely. Granted, if you were the kind of person who didn't care about harming others, or even found outright glee in people's broken faces, having someone else put their stock in you was probably the greatest asset that there was... but she had never been that sort of individual, not even at her very worst (even though she'd thought she was).

No, she was too deep in debt to basically everyone she'd ever met for that. Why she allowed debt to bind her at all was a mystery; she was sure she'd originally had a reason for it, but what had it been?

Of course Peregrine would be the one to make her ask herself such questions- but there wasn't any time for philosophy right now. Motioning with her tail for the other feline to follow her, the Arbiter walked over the edge of the cliff, willing gravity to pull them towards the side. Landing on the sheer surface, she glanced behind her, carefully setting the other female down. At least Perri wasn't particularly large in this form; adjusting gravity for both of them at once was difficult enough as it was.

Cripes, it was only two days away.

Dragging a cardboard box stuffed to the brim with various decorative items outside of the earth observatory, the small feline couldn't help but wonder how much of this she was going to have to do herself. James (he was probably still recovering from the incident with the branch, but he could help with handing out assignments and items), Titan, and Ianthe had all helped with the bonfire, so they'd likely assist here too, and Peregrine would probably lend a paw as well. Five creatures wasn't a lot, but they could probably manage it; and all the better if Felicita and Arabella showed up, too. Granted, even by herself, she could probably get everything done- it would just take some meddling with her powers, that was all.

To an outsider, her concern over such a frivolous event would likely appear strange... but the residents knew she had a reason for it, even if they didn't know what that reason was, and she didn't need to explain herself to anyone else. Releasing the box and stepping away, she took a moment to catch her breath, then called, "Hey, does anyone want to help decorate the camp for the festival?" Hopefully nobody would mind the fact that a large portion of the decorations were red in color- although given that red was considered lucky in China, especially during the New Year, they probably wouldn't question it.

Okay, it was working, at least for the moment. Stifling a sigh of relief, the bicolor feline turned and walked down as well, careful to focus on the other female rather than the ground. If they fell from this distance, it probably wouldn't kill them- they were cats, after all, and neither of them were being consumed by spiders (imagined or otherwise)- but it would cut their trip short, more likely than not. They still didn't have a medic, either, so it'd be several weeks before any particularly severe injuries they might have sustained would heal... which begged the question of why they were willing to risk going out and picking a fight, but it was too late to stop Perri now, and she would remain by the other feline's side until the bitter end (as hackneyed as that might've sounded).

As they approached the base, she directed her attention to the grass. They were probably close enough, she figured. Clearing her throat, she waited a few moments, then allowed their gravity to switch back to normal, bringing them the last few feet. Admittedly, though she rather enjoyed spitting in the face of the laws of physics, it was relieving to be back on solid ground. Glancing over to the other feline, she nodded, then kept walking.

Ah, good, that actually saved her a visit. Approaching the male, the Arbiter offered him a nod. "Thanks," she said, flicking an ear. "By the way, we're holding a festival soon- we're probably going to start tomorrow morning- so if you could pass that along, that'd be appreciated." Hopefully he didn't have a problem with sending another message; he was probably going straight back, so it wasn't like it'd be that much extra work, but she didn't need him feeling like an errand boy.

Honestly, she wasn't quite sure where her arachnophobia had originally stemmed from. While finding Yoka ripped open and buried in a casket of her own spiders' webs definitely hadn't helped, she'd been uneasy around the creatures even before that. One could argue that it was just a generic fear of arthropods as a result of the caterpillar incident, but that had primarily been the result of her own bad judgement call, not any aggression on her attacker's part.

Not that that mattered. At Peregrine's apparent wonder, the smaller feline chuckled slightly. "Since... ah, October, I guess," she answered, flicking an ear. That was probably when she'd first re-discovered it, if she recalled correctly. The months were beginning to meld together, which was probably something to be more concerned about, but she could deal with that later.

Actually, they probably could be going faster than they were now. "Yeah, no problem," the Arbiter responded, breaking into a run. Messing with gravity wasn't that taxing physically- the only real problem was the focus involved in transporting multiple people safely, and the stress from that wore off quickly. After a moment, she added quickly, "How far do you think it is?"

Peregrine was missing a lot, not having her memories... then again, she seemed happier without them, despite how desperate she was to get them back. Their history had had good days, yes, but it had also had disasters in generous supply. If one were to set aside the fact that memories allowed one to see the world for what it truly was, was the rollercoaster of emotions really worth it?

Well, again, she couldn't stop Perri now, especially if they were only a mile or two away from their destination. A mile was nothing, not when she took further trips than that on almost a weekly basis. When the citizen added that her hunch was growing, if that was even a phrase, the Arbiter thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I don't know that it is," she responded, "but I get your point, so it hardly matters." After a moment, she added, "I don't suppose the dream told you anything about identifying our culprit, did it?" Demons weren't often subtle, but some of them were clever enough to disguise themselves.

At long last, it was ready- and just in the nick of time, too.

Stepping a few feet away from the observatories, the small feline examined the scene. Garlands, stars, and the like adorned the outside walls, all in a bright red; not only was the color traditional, it also allowed her to stay on guard. A large table had been set up, stocked with various foodstuffs: prey animals, fish, rice, and even some mochi that she'd been fortunate enough to find in the old town. (No knives, though, as was also traditional in many countries.) In the center of the camp, they'd put a pile of wood- beside it was a large, clumsily-crafted doll made to resemble Dystopia, the manticore-esque ruler of the Exiles. She'd considered crafting an effigy of Capricorn instead, but she'd figured that all of their allies could agree on burning Dystopia's image to the ground, and it wouldn't start any unnecessary conflict. There were also fireworks stored behind the observatories, but those would be for later in the evening.

Overall, they'd done a decent job; maintaining the safety of both the visitors and members wouldn't be difficult. With a small nod, she called, "Alright, let's get started. I've invited the Rebellion of Terminus, and I'll get ColouredClan and the Rift, but we still have to contact our other allies."

Honestly, leaving the territory at all, even just to invite other clans, was risky enough as is.

Still, it would be easier to keep the residents safe if there were additional people at the party, even if just to defend against an attack. Granted, inviting too many people could make it difficult to keep track of all of them, but she suspected that that wouldn't be much of a problem. Walking over up to the border, the small feline briefly examined the multi-colored hills before her, then called, "Hey, we're hosting a party- a late New Year's festival, of sorts. If you want to come, feel free."

Fortunately, the Rift wasn't far away from ColouredClan or LithiumClan, so she'd probably be able to return to the latter before anything went wrong.

Walking up to the border of the archipelago, the small feline cleared her throat, then called, "Hi. LithiumClan's hosting a party- a late New Year's party, sort of." Well, it wasn't technically late in everyone's books, but most of the creatures in this region went by the Gregorian calendar rather than the lunar one. After a moment, she added, "If any of you want to come, feel free."

Actually, now that she thought about it... once Peregrine got her memories back, they were most likely going to have to face the elephant in the room. While the Arbiter had briefly considered lying about how she felt, if only to ensure that the other feline wouldn't get caught up in the cycle of misfortune with her, that was more likely to backfire than anything else. Allowing a relationship to form would let her keep an eye on the other female, but then she was enough of a danger herself- she had set an entire forest on fire, after all. No, she'd have to tell the truth: if the gods didn't kill Perri for consorting with her, then she would end up doing it herself, whether she meant to or not.

Maybe the other feline hadn't meant it in the first place- that was probably the safest possible ending for both of them, really- but that theory didn't really match the evidence.

So many questions, and so few answers.

A snake? In spite of herself, the Arbiter snickered. Yeah, figures whoever it was would be that blatant. Still, the over-prevalence of snakes didn't make them any less venomous, so they'd have to be careful. "Do you think we're getting close?" she asked, glancing over her shoulder briefly.

To be fair, it was rare to see a joiner on their border that wasn't in some sort of emotional turmoil- even the ones that were content wouldn't remain so for long. The residents never pried, unless whatever pain the individual was in posed a risk to either their own safety or someone else's; maybe it would have been better if they did, but sometimes people really did just need space.

Overhearing someone calling from the border, the small feline was quick to head over, inwardly wondering if it was a visitor from another clan or a prospective joiner. Or an attacker- she couldn't rule that out yet. It may not have been exactly a year since Terminal anymore, but she wouldn't put it past the gods to pull a fast one on them while they weren't looking. Seeing that the individual was a relatively-normal husky, however, her fears were mostly appeased. "Yeah, what's your name?" the Arbiter asked, approaching slowly. All things considered, it was a wonder that straight-up resurrection was possible. Sure, people could possess other creatures, be reincarnated, or come back to life by storing others' souls within them, but none of those required the revival of a long-dead and presumably decayed body. Clan-life had been rather strange at first, but it hadn't been particularly difficult to get adjusted (partly because, when she had joined, no one was really 'adjusted' in any sense of the word- she didn't have any standards of normalcy that she had to meet- but still). Hopefully the same was true even now, but from an insider's standpoint, it was difficult to tell.

Glancing up towards the top of the mountain, the Arbiter nodded. "Yeah, there are some observatory buildings at the top," she answered, with a small shrug. "The altitude might take some adjusting to at first, but it's not that bad." Showing him the 'shortcut' she'd devised would be entertaining, but the rapid change in elevation might have severe effects on a newcomer, so it would probably be best saved for another day. After a moment, she added, "There's a lake down here, that we occasionally use for drinking- and someone used for cliff diving back in the fall- but other than that and a few caves, we don't have much at ground level. If you want to see that first, you can, but most of our operations occur along the trail and at the peak."
