There's no specific rules surrounding soul splitting, so you could do it any way you wanted to ICly. Character Bond is the most ideal power to use if you want to bond the souls together. Yes, it is exactly as it sounds. A soul splits into different parts.

At first, i got hooked into it because it contained everything I loved at first glance such as swords, fantasy, video games, etc. The plot was interesting as well, but what later drove me away was the lack of character development. They were not very interesting characters to start with. Kirito is the cool mysterious hero that has an ability unique only to him, and Asuna was the hot girl that is also extremely powerful and interested in him. It has generic characters and they don't focus on anything else, which is why I grew to dislike it over time.

I believe it was a unique, stylistic choice for the people directing Tokyo Ghoul to choose humans to eat and nothing else (and it makes sense since the main character is a human and humans aren't cannibalistic by nature).
