"Last time I checked Darkheart, its the deputy's job to put out patrols and hunting party's. At least I'm not running from a dead fox and a harmless twoleg." Echostep spit back, taking a step off his rock.

Echostep turned away from Darkheart and continued on with patrol orders, as the other cats quieted down when they got orders of their own that they went to go complete.
(I'm working on the story of how Echostep got to become deputy of the tribe, is that fine? I started it while at camp.) -
(Okay thank you :) )
Echostep worked hard while those suns passed, making sure to live up to his deputy duty. He fur which was once slick, became hard with muscle as he continued to work, the right side of the world forever dark to him. Everyday when Hawkbreeze went to do her training he would notice her excitement for even the littlest of things, his hidden crush growing stronger with each passing moon. -
Echostep was ecstatic when Hawkbreeze came up to gather around the Deputy Rock to get her first real patrol in a while. "Today Hawkbreeze, Foxstep, Honeythistle, and I will be taking a border patrol, not only to freshen marks but to test Hawkbreeze's new and stronger self." Echostep announced at dawn when all the warriors were around his rock.
-
Echostep watched Hawkbreeze the entire patrol not only evaluating her skills, but also just watching the she-cats tortoiseshell fur shimmer and shine in the sunlight that filtered through the thick tree cover.
-
Echostep sat on his deputy rock, looking around at all the cats who relaxed and chatted with each other. As the sun went down, the night patrol went out a large group of six.
Yawning, Echostep arched his back and went into the warriors den, the moonlight shinning dully into the den just barely shinning enough light to see. The even breathing of the warriors calming his thoughts as he laid in his nest at the far corner of the den. -
Stirring in his sleep, Echostep gradually looked up from his nest seeing Hawkbreeze's tail exit the den. Confused by her sudden night walk, Echostep stood and followed her.
When Hawkbreeze stopped at her training place Echostep halted a few fox tails behind her."What are you doing out here this late?" Echostep asked, his voice questioning but soothing, as he went and sat next to her his leg and stomach touching hers.
-
Echostep looked at the sky while she spoke, the moment she finished he looked at her. "I understand then why you would come here. With such a pretty view of the Star Tribe, it must be a good place to relax and think it all through." Echostep spoke calmly, on the inside though he was excited to be talking to her.
-
"It really is" He responded, chills going down his spine as her head rested on his shoulder. He looked down at her, his orange eye looking at her face as it was the only thing the world showed him, his belly erupting in butterflies at the contact of her fur on his.
-
"I think so..." Echostep looked away from her, his cheeks heating up. Echostep stood quickly, and quickly walked a few feet in front of Hawkbreeze.
Muttering under his breath Echostep kept his head low pacing 'I should tell her tonight' He thought, but looked up at Hawkbreeze his orange eye searching her golden ones for the feelings he felt for her. -
"I-" Echostep cut himself off as he continued to look her in the eyes. "I-i like you... a lot" He stated quickly looking to the ground, his cheeks flushing under his fur as he finally stood still, his ears twitching with anticipation.
-
Surprised his head snapped up, her fur creating sparks Echostep was sure he could only feel. "Yo-you do?" Echostep asked hesitantly.
-
Echostep smiled his tail flicking happily. "Same here" Both his eyes gleamed as he looked down a few inches at her face.
-
Echostep continued smiling as he purred and rubbed his cheek on her head, but stopped suddenly.. "What would this make us? Still friends or?..." He asked trailing off.
-
"Uh.... mates?" Echostep asked, hesitating a bit not wanting to say the wrong thing.
-
Standing there shocked, Echostep looked where Hawkbreeze was just standing and the warriors den. His mind thick with thoughts as he bound after Hawkbreeze into the warriors den, almost bumping into Skypelt as she walked out. "Sorry" He muttered as this time he calmly walked in.
-
"Skypelt just walked out... in the middle of the night." Echostep whispered gently, as he laid down in his nest his legs sprawled out showing half his belly fur to Hawkbreeze. "It's really weird." Echostep added as he watched the Warriors den.
-
"There probably is." Echostep replied with a light chuckle to his tone as he laid is head down, purring as he fell asleep.
-
Echostep awoke after the feeling of warmth left him. When he looked up, he saw Hawkbreeze stretching in front of the den. Standing, Echostep shook his fur and trotted to her. "Good morning" he meowed with a purr as he passed her, going to the fresh-kill pile and grabbing a vole.
-
Echostep continued to eat his vole as he noticed Hawkbreeze just picking at her mouse. "Whats wrong?" He asked his meow carrying concern.
