Nitai crept his way through the streets of bloodrogue, talons tucked carefully into his belt in case of emergency. The city of riches, the place where Nitai resided was nothing but a lie. A shroud to hide all the ugliness of the nobles. He was a street urchin who fought to live. If there was a person in Bloodrogue that Nitai hadn't defeated it's because they were rich enough not to need to fight. They just made the bets.

It was a known rookie mistake not to bet on Nitai, he was raised on the streets and learned to fight from the best homeless, drunken old knights and footmen the kingdom had to offer. Standing at slightly below six feet tall he didn't strike fear with his stature but rather his eyes. So often were they hidden behind a veil of his snow white hair that a person would miss the ferocity that was contained in his deep purple eyes.

Holding an undefeated streak on the "secret" street fighting circuit of bloodrogue was what kept Nitai fed and clothed, but not housed. Nobody would provide such a profitable resource the item necessary for them to retire. Nitai didn't mind much, he just loved to fight and when he heard he'd be able to fight some more challenging foes he almost jumped for joy.

He reached what he was told was some form of training building and walked in. He saw two noble looking people conversing and shaking hands, best to avoid those. So he headed directly for the back where there were practice dummies. It didn't take much to entertain him but Nitai liked when he was at least challenged a little and unfortunately for him the dummies just broke after a single strike. Bits of wood, hay and metal dropped to the floor as five dummies were decimated in one strike from Nitai.

The lack of fight in the training apparatus led him to sit down on the ground and let out an annoyed puff of air. He didn't want to fight anybody and risk them not overestimating him in the tournament but to go even a day without a brawl to Nitai was like toruture.

He stood up and walked toward the front door and smiled up at the nearby rooftops. "This is going to be great don't you think Harls?" He asked his partner in tonight's crime.

"This is going to blow that bat away."

Raymond stood silently among the crowd surveying anybody who looked worth robbing. He was getting hungry and didn't want to wait for this commotion to die down before he got something to eat. He turned and walked slowly out of the crowd making sure not to arouse any suspicion on the part of the guards flooding the area.

"Tch. War. Oh how the beautiful Queen Luna finds a way to f*ck over the poor man. A ruler should want to protect their people not conscript them." He said to himself.

The empty streets and market left the city looking like a ghost town. Raymond decided to help himself to everything available and he left minutes later down a back alley with a sack full of food and pockets full of jewels for later.

"This should hold the homeless for a little while." Raymond said to the emptiness around him as he devoured a half loaf of bread.

Raymond sat atop a small house looking down into the streets, as people plodded mostly towards the training ground he saw a few women returning to the freshly raised market. He decided it would be a good idea to get moving. He dropped a few crumbs for any passing birds to feed on and I jumped to the ground with a perfect landing. He landed unfortunately right in front of a guard.

"Well hello there. You're probably wondering why I just fell out of the sky." He joked with the large man. "But if you must know its because I was sent to retrieve these stolen goods." He said holding up the sack. "So I think I'll just be on my way then." He said turning to walk away.

Raymond sat in a back alley after his run in with the guards. He sighed and looked in his sack. "So many perishables, so little time to give it all away." He said to himself.

Raymond tied the sack and hid in a pile of identical empty sacks and made his way back into the streets. The bustling city streets were a thief's dreams. So many possible victims. Of course these people were just passively helping the real victims in society, the poor and homeless. Raymond couldn't believe he would have to marry a queen who allowed so many people to be left by the wayside. But being king was the best way for him to improve everybody's lives.

Raymond looked and saw a woman at the other end of the alley. He froze up trying to analyse the situation, she looked noble, well fed and dressed. She also wasn't human. He didn't want to take any chances of being caught by guards so he took off leaving the sack of food hidden in the darkness.

Raymond ran for a few minutes, navigating the alleys and using every shortcut to his advantage. He noticed the lack of anybody on the streets. It was unnerving to be alone. Nothing but darkness and despair inhabited those streets. The Queen spoke of having her people's best interests at heart from her castle away from the reality of this place.

Raymond heard something and stopped. He listened carefully and heard foot steps. They sounded female, and fast.

"I can hear you." He said. "I don't know why you're coming near me with that sword but I'd suggest stopping right where you are and explaining what you want with the King of Thieves. If not, well I don't think you want to know that option."

Raymond turned and stood firm, he stared directly at the figure approaching him and sneered.

Raymond took a step back. "Nobody knows my name. And I definitely didn't tell you. What are you then?" He asked.

Raymond took a small gold ring from his pocket that gleamed in the light. "I'm a thief not a thug lady, I run from people surrounded by guards because I prefer not to fight. Of course pretty soon I'm going to be conscripted into the military because you decided to play the defiant queen and refused to get married. And for what? Your pride? How many people are going to have to suffer before you're happy? When I first for hear everybody had something to be stolen. Now, now even the smallest feat of thievery can put a person on the streets."

Raymond sat down in the snow and put his head in his hands. "If you followed me hear to arrest me then go ahead. I've been stealing and conning for years and I'm sure the nobles will thank you. It'll save you a second trip from your castle right? I never even knew what you looked like until now because you're always locked up there. Away from the reality of what your kingdom had become. So either arrest me or leave. I've got work to do."

Raymond sighed and hung his head slightly. The cold didn't bother him even with his lack of a shirt. So many years out in the cold helped him build a natural immunity. "Well if that's all you have to say to me then I think we're done. I have work to do." He said standing up and rubbing snow from the back side of his trousers.

"If you're looking for somebody you better find them quickly before your sister shows up. Or anybody else for that matter. The last thing you want is to be seen with a street urchin like me right? I'll leave you to live your life of luxury. But don't think for a minute I'm going to join your army." Raymond said to her.

"In fact, I've probably done more for the people in this city with my own two hands then you have with all your money." He sighed. "Isn't that ironic? The queen is powerless to help her people while the homeless man gives charity like a king. Feels like something out of a fairy tale."

Raymond looked down and offered his hand to help up the queen beneath him. "But life isn't a fairy tale. Is it?" He asked her.

Raymond took a step away from the queen and turned his back on her. "You really don't get it do you? You think, just because its worse somewhere else you can pass of how unbelievably sh*t this place is. It's not some competition you're competing in. These are people's lives!"

Raymond sighed and his shoulders sunk. "I want to be king. I'm not interested in love, or headlines. "King of Thieves steals queens heart" Doesn't appeal to me. I want to lead these people and make this a better place. I don't want to just appease your sister or whoever the f#ck you're so scared of." He said.

He turned back to the queen and pulled away from her again. "I'm sorry for wasting your time, but I want power not a wife." Raymond said and started walking away from Luna.

Raymond heard the commotion in the streets. People running and screaming didn't bother him. He skulked past crowds of people abandoning their homes for the safer refuge deeper into the city. He heard roars and shouts and clatters and bangs but none of it phased him.

He walked out from a nearby alley and saw the chimera, a large beast it was indeed. Ferocious, powerful, it was no wonder it was a feared myth. Raymond saw robots, guards and the queen being attacked. Something inside him smiled at the thought of the queen dying. But the battlefield was no place for a queen he knew that much.

Then he saw it. A large black figure hurtling towards Luna. "Sh*t f#ck" he thought to himself and he ran and threw himself into the queens midsection to save her from the black mass.

"Always fighting. That's all you ever want to do isn't it? No! Never talking. Always fighting." Raymond said to himself as he pushed himself onto his feet.

He looked at the queen get clobbered again by whatever was attacking her. He sighed and stepped in between the two. "I regret to inform you Mr. Big black monster man. But I can't let you kill the queen as we have some unfinished business. But I'll gladly take over as your opponent." Said Raymond.

He turned and flashed a smile at the queen. "You go help with the chimera. I can handle myself here. This shouldn't take long." He turned his attention back to his now opponent. "Well, let's see what you can do."
