volunteer - eighteen years old - biography

It didn’t take Marissa long to get ready, all things considered. In fact, it most likely took her more time to pack her things then it did the actual getting dressed and primed for her new volunteer job. She still woke up early and went through her normal routines, making sure all the pastures for the horses had their water troughs filled to the brim and riding the acres of fence-lines on her grandfather’s ATV to make sure nothing was damaged or broken. Thankfully everything seemed to be in order and nothing needed fixing. Marissa knew that there were many other mechanical issues that needed doing (a burned-out light-bulb here, a tractor needing tinkered with there, a pasture needing mowed somewhere) but her grandfather’s paid staff would be able to get the job done. Running such a large production of American Quarter Horses meant money and with that money and things needing done came the paid staff.

Marissa had become friends with each handyman and breeder and wrangler that came into their ranch. Leaving the ranch would be hard, but Marissa knew she would have fun at her job where she could still be with horses. After doing her normal morning chores, the brunette took a quick shower and blow-dried her hair before applying minimal make-up. She didn’t care for the facial products, because she knew it would get messed up each day either way, but she put on enough to cover the worst parts of her face as well as a bit of mascara and eye-liner. Marissa didn’t dress fancy, instead slipping into a pair of her comfortable, well-worn dark blue work jeans and a casual t-shirt representing her grandfather’s ranch. She put on a plaid long-sleeved shirt with a thin material to appear somewhat more decent and then threw on her good ole’ country work boots.

After throwing her bags into the back of her dirty pickup, Marissa headed toward the Ever After Ranch. It didn’t take her a long time to get to the other ranch, seeing as both of the ranches were located in the same city. Mar had left a note saying goodbye to her father and that she would call before his bedtime. The elderly man was growing old and couldn’t wake up as early or go to bed as late as he used to. Still, her grandfather always found time to train the young horses they would be selling and figure out which breeding pairs to put together to produce the best offspring.

The drive to the new ranch passed quickly and uneventfully but before Marissa knew it she was driving through the ranch’s entrance. It seemed like a nice facility and Marissa was curious to discover more of the property. There were already a few vehicles stopped in the parking lot so the eighteen-year-old parked her pickup near them. Sliding out of the truck, Marissa left her bags in the bed of the truck and instead began walking over to where she noticed a person standing near a building. Supposing the woman was her tour guide or something along those lines the brunette strode in that direction.

“Hello, my name is Marissa Richwell. I’m here for the volunteer position?” The last sentence ended in a question, hoping the woman with the bright hair could answer her with good responses.

    voila! it is finished. <3

It’s an interesting vision; something not realistic enough for him to know it’s real or fake enough to fully suspect it might be fantasy. He’s standing on the battlefield again and the bullets are flying around him. He doesn’t get hit, standing in the middle of the crossfire, and there is a haze in his eyes that allows him to believe this place (a place filled with ruin and destruction and death and pain and loud cries) is beautiful. He seems harmony in the way the soldiers move with each other and the sounds of battle sound like a well-thought out piece of music to be played for listening ears.

She’s standing there, in the battlefield, and he wonders how she could be so pretty. How such a thing of elegance and grace and cleanliness could be found in a place filled with sloppy movements and blood stains and dirt smeared on cheeks. She’s smiling at him and her voice soothes his battle-tattered mind. She walks toward him, her fingers reaching to touch his forearm, and then there is a prick against his skin. Despite his bullet wounds, it is the prick of the IV tube that walks him from his exhausted and blood-deprived state of sleep.

The hospital slowly begins to slide into focus again, the haze clearing and the blurry shapes and colors shifting. She’s staring at him (or his arm rather, fixated on pushing the IV needle in and giving him nutrients) and he stares at her face. She’s just as beautiful as when he first saw her and just as beautiful as when he dreamt of her in the dream. “Thank you, ma’am,” he tries to say, but the words come out slurred and disoriented. His wounds have stopped bleeding and he can feel the IV already pumping energy into his body. “I’m going to die, right?”

It’s a bad attempt at a joke, but he’s really just trying to make her smile and also keep his mind off the pain in his shoulder and chest.

Mary gives him a shy smile and he wonders where the shyness came from. He enjoys her company just as much as he enjoys everyone else’s company (although her sweet and motherly attitude certainly drew him in closer than the harsh and negative personalities did); perhaps even a little more so. He didn’t know her too well, but Bear decided then and there that it might be about time he gets to know more of his fellow comrades. Besides the surface layer of words and expressions and acting, the lieutenant knew little about any of his team’s stories.

Just as Bear is about to turn toward the doctor, Ryker came running over to him. He’d often seen the scout around the horses and knew she had one of her own (whom she frequently spent time with). It seemed Ryker had a similar infatuation with horses as he did. When she asked him to go riding later, the lieutenant couldn’t help the knowing smile that crossed his mouth. “As long as you like riding fast; I dunno if your steed can keep up with my mare and I.” He winks at the end, knowing the girl and her horse are fully capable of running alongside him and his paint.

After Ryker left, Bear finally looked around for the doctor and Lau. Hopefully nothing would disturb them while the rest were out, but it is always good to be on alarm. The lieutenant’s hand reached to touch the gun he kept on his hostler’s belt at all times and he wondered about going to grab another one in case it was needed. Just as well, he felt the throwing knives in his pockets in case he might need those as well. Bear never went anywhere unarmed, whether that meant with just one knife or five.

    MARISSA JUNE RICHWELL
volunteer - eighteen years old - biography

Thankfully Marissa isn’t left standing in front of the red-head alone for very long. Two other people stride up, but given the way they speak to each other and act near each other the brunette assumes they know each other. Marissa wonders if this will make the whole ordeal harder. When it comes to getting to know co-workers, it’s often more difficult when most of them already know each other. Still, the volunteer hopes the three of them will bond well and will be able to work smoothly with the boss. When the girl introduces herself (someone not much older than Marissa herself, perhaps only by two or three years) the eighteen-year-old locks away her name for future reference. In the way that Tiger-Lily speaks, Marissa guesses she’s the one who runs the place.

“Sounds great!” The fact that there’s a schedule somehow made Marissa feel more at ease; knowing that there is a certain routine to how things are run and timed. It gave the whole place a very well thought-out feel about it and that is something Mar likes about a ranch. It should have a well-working system with no major issues in either time or routine. If there are, along the way severe issues can arise where they had not been previously seen. Marissa knows this per experience on her grandfather’s ranch. Because of this experience, there is a way Marissa holds herself, as if she is already familiar with the lay of a ranch and the way things work around horses. Each ranch has its own rules and guidelines and ways of working, but altogether horse knowledge and how to act around them remain similar.

Marissa doesn’t say anything more, instead turning toward the pair who seem to know each other and waiting to hear their answers to Tiger-Lily’s question.

    hair color ➳ brunette.
↳ taylor's hair is a rich chocolate color and rather wavy, though when it is particularly unruly one can imagine it used to be very curly when he was younger. there aren't too many times that taylor styles his hair in a way that looks stylish; rather he places it somewhere in that category of messy and just-rolled-out-of-bed look. some might consider it charming or sexy, but all taylor really cares about is the fact that it doesn't take too much work to do but still allows him to look like he isn't sinking under.
    eye color ➳ blue.
↳ taylor's eyes are a pretty shade of blue - light near the middle but circling out to darker around the edges - and seem like they don't belong in a mental hospital. perhaps, rather, they belong on the face of some rich man with a fancy car and too many ladies to pick from. alas, taylor didn't get that end of the stick in life and instead has a pair of perfectly-shaped eyes. however, when it comes down to during one of taylor's episodes, those sky blue eyes turn into the raging depths of a stormy sea.
height ➳ five feet, eleven inches.
weight ➳ one hundred and fifty pounds.
    build ➳ tall, but gangly.
↳ overall, taylor's build isn't too shabby. he could definitely use some fine-tuning and a bit more muscle across the board, but he doesn't have a sickly look or a poor build. in fact, perhaps if he were living in better days, taylor might've once been looking very in-shape with a stature that could easily impress. unfortunately such situations are hard to come by in taylor's life and he didn't end up in such an event. rather, he is tall and lankly-built, with a gangly look to his figure as if he's still just getting out of the teen years. he's in no way a bodybuilder, but there are still strong, natural muscles sewn into his frame that give him a slightly more buff look than many of the average guys in the hospital.
    body modifications ➳ one tattoo.
↳ click - the chinese symbol for 'anger' to symbolize his illness, which is located on the nape of his neck. it's small, but significant.
    clothing ➳ casual.

    face-claim ➳ aaron taylor johnson.

    ↠i need freedom now

positive traits ➳ protective, caring, gentlemanly, respectful.
↳ protective: it can be said that taylor is protective. he's been in wickery hollow for a long time and because of this he has grown particularly close to his three other friends. if anything were to happen to any of them, taylor doesn't know what he'd do. he protects them with his life and is, perhaps, the bodyguard of the four of them. if someone were to abuse any one of his friends, one should always know that when they mess with one, they mess with taylor too. even outside of his four friends, if anyone were to hurt someone he might enjoy spending time around, a smack-down is sure to ensue.
↳ caring: when taylor is not being protective, he's being caring. when he's not having an episode he's rather empathetic, taking care to tread lightly when it comes to explosive personalities. he knows first-hand what happens when someone suddenly gets mad and so he knows how to be careful and caring at the same time. if anyone were feeling bad, you'd be sure to find taylor there trying to figure out why and solve the issue. although he goes about it in a somewhat serious manner, his ways of cheering someone up involve trying to make them laugh or even smile.
↳ gentlemanly: if there comes a time when a woman needs to undress in his presence, taylor would be the one to turn around and never glimpse back until she is fully clothed again. perhaps old-fashioned (he did, after all, come into wickery hollow at a young age when it was still appropriate to pick up your date at the front door and open the car door and give her flowers and ask for permission before doing anything sexual) in his mannerisms, taylor is normally well-behaved.
↳ respectful: just as taylor is gentlemanly, he is also respectful. he's always willing to respect someone's boundaries unless there is a dire situation. he doesn't try to pressure anyone into really doing anything, despite how much he occasionally wishes to, and he's capable of restraining himself well, with a strength that comes with practicing such things over the course of many years. it often becomes difficult and tiring to resist the episodes, but given the strength of taylor's positive personality traits he is normally able to ride it through with minimal damage. this is both due to his respectfulness and urge to be a better person.
negative traits ➳ manipulative, masochistic, violent, vengeful.
↳ manipulative: when it comes down to it, taylor is very good (too good) at getting what he wants. with a charming and suave outer appearance, it isn't hard to turn up the levels of his facial features and gentlemanly behaviors in order to get what he desires. whether it's something for good or bad, usually only he knows.
↳ masochistic: in taylor's own mind he will only reveal his pleasure in destruction. whether it is destructing himself or someone else or simply an object, he loves it. when taylor got his tattoo on the back of his neck, he found a sheer exuberance to feeling to pricking of the needle. when taylor knows the proper time (since he has mastered the routine of wickery hollows) he will often inflict harm on himself, small enough that it will heal before anyone can see but severe enough to feel the pain. just as well, he internally enjoys the sight of someone writhing around like a squirming worm, although he would rarely admit these things aloud.
↳ violent: it goes without saying that taylor can be very violent. his mental illness is part of the reason, but it also comes from his own personality. perhaps being locked up so long has caused him such violence and rage, or perhaps it is because of other experiences he won't mention. whatever the reason, taylor can easily work himself up into such a state of mind it can take hours - even a few days - to calm himself down. during these points he is nearly inconsolable, so fierce and angry that anyone who tries to get near him runs the risk of getting severely injured in the process.
↳ vengeful: perhaps due to his protectiveness over his friends, taylor can be vengeful. if anyone tries to hurt him or someone he cares about, they must know there is a price that will be paid eventually. taylor doesn't allow anyone to touch a harmful finger on his friends without getting payback, in its many forms, and he will continue to do so to the best of his ability until he's tied down or sedated. his violence often comes into play when he turns vengeful, as well as his masochistic side. it is easy for him to hold grudges and form them easily, which can often make him a very testy person to talk to if you manage to get on his bad side.
likes ➳ baking, fall, motorcycles, old movies.
dislikes ➳ wickery hollow, summer, airplanes, pop music.
    mental illness ➳ explosive violence.

    ↠i need to know how

history ➳ taylor was born into a family that wasn't altogether rich, but overall was held together by their closeness and love for each other. his family owned a business affectionately called "york's bakery" which sold a wide variety of baking items. from pastries to bread to crusts, his family made it all. their little shop in sandusky, ohio was well-known, especially considering the fact their baking was very good and they also delivered. taylor's birth proved to be an exciting moment for the tight-knit family. he grew up in a loving environment, surrounded by a large multitude of relatives who all lived nearby.

however, when taylor got into high school things began to change. despite the love his family provided him, school was biting his butt and causing him to react in ways no normal teen would. if he didn't understand a problem to a question, he might explode during the class, raging and throwing his papers and yelling words no one could understand before slapping a student nearest him and storming out of the school. of course this earned him many detentions, suspensions, and time to think about his actions. even outside of school, however, taylor would react in the same ways. there were little things that triggered him, but often there was nothing at all.

with his actions, it didn't take long for wickery hollow to find him. when he was only sixteen years old he was forced to move into the mental institution, where he spent the rest of his life so far. nine years later and he's still in the hospital, almost rounding an entire decade of trying to control his anger and violence.
    relationships ➳ non-familial.
    ↳ morgana cross (developing infatuation)
    ↳ jace miller (best friend)
    ↳ craig masters (best friend)
    ↳ elizabeth winston (best friend)
    ↳ josey ainsworth (neutral)
    ↳ adelaide moss (neutral)

He supposes it must long and tiring – having to run around on foot taking care of injuries. Perhaps too much blood would seem nauseating after a while, but he thinks back to the battlefield, where he had felt sick and depressed at first when he saw all the dead bodies until, eventually, he became numb to the sight. Although, Danger thinks that if you enjoy working at a hospital, you must find some happiness at helping people with their injuries and dealing with blood matters.

She tells him he won’t die (although he wonders if dying would be such a bad thing, when he knows he’ll be haunted with nightmares of the war every night) and he gives her a relieved smile, the pale blue of his eyes shining with a hidden humor. She gives him a quick assessment of his injures and he nods, though the feeling brings a stiffness he hadn’t noticed previously until just now. The tension of battle had seeped into his muscles, tightening them tighter until he wondered if he could even turn his head. The instinct to survive had dimmed all this pains and aches (pains and aches that were, really, not serious at all and just something he forced himself to think on rather than the unseeing eyes of the dead) but now they came back with a brutal attack.

The nurse went to go gather a rag and some water to clean him up and Danger shifted slightly, willing his body into movement. He might as well try to take his gear off to allow her easier access to his injuries as well as less work in the long run. However, the movements of taking off his gear proved to be more painful an experience than the initial point of impact with the bullets. The soldier winced and groaned and clenched his teeth together, trying not to yell out or shed tears for fear of drawing too much attention to himself. Still, he managed to strip down to just a tank top which might’ve once been white, a long time ago. Now it was splattered with dirt and mud and bright, thick red patches of blood on his right chest and left shoulder in his back.

The soldier kept his gun secured in his lap, in case something ended up happening. While he hoped nothing would in such a place of supposed security and nursing, Danger’s experience with the war caused him to know that something unexpected could happen at any given moment. The sharp, long, jagged scar on the inside of his left bicep proved it was possible. Sighing, the soldier leaned his head against the back of the bed and waited for the beautiful nurse to come back, focusing his attention on anything but his throbbing and still-bleeding wounds.

but those are dangerous thoughts and they would have dangerous consequences.

danger had tried to consider it from the point of view of an onlooker. he had been one, after all, back when his father was taken from their family. taken and placed in the midst of the gunfire and killed. just like too many of the other men (and women) of their country. he knew what it felt like to feel pain and grief over someone lost to a killing-spree that many others suffered as well. perhaps that just made him feel even worse, knowing that there were other people suffering and grieving just like him. maybe that is why he enlisted into the forces, to get his mind off of things and experience it for himself. but rather than the war coming across as just a distraction, it became survival.

so far, he's done rather well.

the nurse enters again, a frown puckering on her pretty lips, and danger laughs (though it turns into a wince at the end). "hon, i don't know how much further they could go." she moves his gear around before turning back to him, half talking to him and half talking to herself. "yup. my right chest and left shoulder in the back. plus this nasty cut - " he points to the cut above his left eye, which has stopped bleeding and now has dried blood caked on it " - and that scratch." then he points to the corner of his mouth, where a scratch can be seen in angry red. "you might have to kiss that one to make it feel better," he says with a cheeky grin, all good-humor and natural teasing. they appear to be roughly the same age and danger wonders where she came from and what she's doing here. he can almost sense the pain behind her mask of nurse-ness.
