for me, it's a character that's fully aware of what they're doing

that what they're doing is detestable and cruel
they're aware of all of this, capable of pulling off detestable acts, and capable of blending into society near seamlessly after performing them
furthermore, they don't care for the families they've hurt
they don't get sexual gratitude out of it, they just do it because it's a fun passtime
because it's something they do when they're bored
ruining the lives of others and doing waht they do is a hobby rather than something relating to vengeance or getting the one up on others
not a job, not a way to gain sexual or emotional pleasure, just a way to pass time
they don't think of what they've done when they're walking through the street & if they were caught? they'd fess up to it right away. they would be proud of their actions, proud and pleased with how they executed it. shit, they might even criticize themselves.
they wouldn't hide or anything
the biggest monsters of society are those that are the most human, the most normal. they're the ones that you could make eye contact with on the street and think they were just your run-of-the-mill average joe, only to find out weeks later that they're a convicted murderer.
