[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]a silvery tabby ball of fluff emerged on windclan's border, her round blue orbs surveying the landscape. she wasn't too sure she would like it here, but with a voiceless sigh, the mute persian kitten crossed into the territory. thinking ahead, she grabbed a stick and clasped it between her jaws, dragging it through the dirt until the scratches she'd engraved in the earth formed a sentence.

    "can i join?"

since she was so young, some of the letters were backwards. she hoped it was readable, and that someone could read. above all, she just hoped someone would show up eventually. she felt extremely nervous and uncomfortable-- what would they think of her extra toe? she just wanted to feel normal for once.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]why was the kitten alone? she wasn't really sure. her mother must have had enough compassion to nurse her for awhile so she wouldn't die, but other than that, hadn't wanted anything to do with the sickly child.

well, she wasn't alone anymore. she nodded and smiled, but having no powers, she didn't really have a sure proof way of conveying her thoughts. instead, she smeared out the writing with her paw and carved the stick into the ground again. it read:

    "clippedkit."

that was her name. she hoped that was obvious enough, and shifted her paws a little.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit nodded to the seemingly friendly pregnant lioness. she was thankful, and she wished she could express it better, but scratching words into the ground with a stick got tiring after awhile. it was frustrating, but what else could she do?

the kitten smiled at the others, her blue orbs taking them in. they didn't seem to look at her with disgust or anything, so that was a relief. the persian tended to anticipate things being a lot worse than they turn out to be.

    that wasn't so bad.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]so many abandoned buildings. it seemed kind of dangerous to clippedkit, honestly. but the pale cotton ball of a feline wasn't complaining. she couldn't ever be bored with so much to explore. the only downside was that if she ever found herself in trouble, she couldn't scream or call for help.

she padded along the top of a concrete wall, gazing down at the plant life forcing itself through the cracks. the silver persian wouldn't go too far for now, she realized her size and knew her limits. at least she thought so. she was anemic, so she tired easily. she didn't want to let it hold her back, but... she couldn't help but wonder if she wasn't as capable as other children her age.

would she ever be of much use to windclan? of course not now, she was too young to be much help. but what about in the future? she couldn't speak. would she have to write in the dirt with sticks for the rest of her life?

    i'm scared.

she let out a deep breath, plopping down on the concrete and letting the sun warm her pelt.

it's okay, i don't have to worry about that stuff yet.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]the mute persian kitten wandered over on stubby legs, craning her neck to get a better view. she couldn't say anything, though she wasn't sure she'd know what to say anyway. she wondered what he was here for.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit could tell blackpaw wasn't exactly bursting with excitement over her presence, so she hurried after freestyle as fast as her short legs would take her.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit quietly followed after freestyle, it was all she knew to do. she wasn't trying to eavesdrop or anything. she didn't know who fadedmemories was or why she wasn't feeling too well. plus, if someone asked why the persian kitten wasn't speaking, maybe freestyle would answer. the less time she had to spend dragging a stick through the dirt to write sentences the more energy the anemic female would have to do other things.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit gave a sheepish smile, hoping vitalkit didn't think she was weird because she hadn't said anything. she felt a little relief as freestyle sat down next to her and flicked her feathery tail in greeting.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]it took a moment for clippedkit to register that she'd just been winked at, something the mute kitten wasn't used to. ducking behind freestyle briefly, the silver chinchilla persian's ears grew warm with embarrassment. sometimes she wished she were invisible, so others wouldn't notice her inability to speak or her extra toe. but she knew that would get lonely, and she hated the feeling of loneliness. she had to allow others to get to know her, if they wished to.

hesitantly reappearing from behind the pregnant lioness, she gazed up at freestyle pleadingly. vitalkit didn't know clippedkit couldn't speak. she really hoped the colorblind tuxedo didn't think she was stupid because she didn't answer. she couldn't answer.

she does remember my name, right? she can tell him. i must look really dumb sitting here gawking.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]the silver chinchilla feline padded over and took a seat next to the others. she wasn't sure if she actually wanted to play or, if she did, how she could play since she didn't really have a good way to communicate. maybe she would just observe.

she listened as vitalkit asked a few questions about color. well, he wouldn't have to ask her what color she was-- her pelt was a feathery very pale silver.

gold is like a really rich, deep shade of yellow. she thought to herself. she had to kind of talk to herself in her head so she didn't go crazy, since she couldn't actually have a conversation with anyone out loud.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit headed over with a small smile upon her maw. she hadn't seen this member of windclan before. she wasn't surprised though, she'd only joined yesterday after all. freestyle was there, but she didn't want to constantly rely on the pregnant lioness to explain why the young persian was always wordless.

she took note that the male's name was chervilpaw as her vision drifted from sundaypaw to polarispride. she'd seen everyone else that was here at least once before.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit wandered over, joining the small group that was already there. someone new was joining. why did they have to sound so angry? no one else seemed too intimidated, though.

again, she couldn't introduce herself. but this time she didn't really mind-- she felt a little scared.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit, too, was mute. but as she approached, she wasn't aware the other child shared her wordlessness. she shifted her paws awkwardly.

how am i supposed to make friends like this? she thought, sighing. she watched as vitalkit tried to take the stick. he knew clippedkit wouldn't talk, but doubted he cared to explain that to starlitkit.

that's not very nice. the anemic persian kitten shrugged, staring down at her paws. no one had commented on her extra toe yet, thankfully.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit's ears shot back in surprise at vitalkit's exclamation, watching in awe as he splashed around in the puddle like he'd never seen water before.

    is he okay?

the persian kitten lightly submersed a paw into the water's surface then swirled it around pretending she was creating tiny whirlpools.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit glanced upward as vitalkit snapped at edward, then went back to twirling the water around. but it wasn't long before vitalkit noticed what she was doing, and seemed to want in on the fun.

the pale kitten nodded. it was fun. to her, at least. she wasn't sure if the tuxedo had the same definition of fun as her, but she couldn't help but smile as he attempted to grasp the swirling water. she splashed a little bit onto vitalkit, whiskers twitching. hopefully he wouldn't take offense at her lighthearted gesture.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]clippedkit watched as the stranger played a solitary game of mossball, wondering if she wanted someone to join in. but soon enough the seal point seemed to forget about the ball of plant material and instead began to introduce herself as miraclekit.

the mute kitten flicked her tail in greeting. she couldn't do much else. there seemed to be a lot of kits around here lately. well, maybe there had always been a lot of kits and clippedkit just hadn't noticed them. she had only joined yesterday. surely out of all of them at least one would be willing to be her friend.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]the mute kitten stumbled over, ears perked up. another joiner? she hoped all of these new people didn't think she was rude since she didn't - couldn't - say anything. this one looked pretty cool, though. ashenpaw echoed clippedkit's thoughts. his hat was pretty cool.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]oh goodness, this prince bottlepaw was a charmer. clippedkit managed a sheepish smile, shifting her paws. it was like earlier when vitalkit winked at her all over again. but it was true, the young persian probably could use some good luck.

[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 350px; text-transform: none][size=10][font=times new roman]the golden dragon could read? well, that was some useful knowledge for clippedkit. now she knew she could always communicate with her if needed, even if she had to drag a stick through the dirt until she was utterly exhausted.
