PLOT: six college law students must balance their various classes with their new demanding job. they slowly start to learn the ins and outs of defending your client and all the technicalities to get their clients off. they also learn that law is a very dirty game; nothing was off limits. you did anything and everything you could to make sure you win the case.
while all of this is going on, though, a girl from campus is missing. she disappeared after a fight with her boyfriend over him believing she was cheating. she turns up a few weeks later in the dumpster behind her sorority house, dead. obviously the jealous boyfriend is the main suspect, but the police have no evidence to connect him to it. turns out, one of the six was who the girl was cheating on the boyfriend with. in his grief, he decides to investigate the whole crime himself. he employs the help of his fellow students. together, they dig up some pretty compelling evidence and are reviewing it at the professor's house. the boyfriend shows up and he goes insane. he attacks them. in the midst of the fight, the boyfriend ends up with a kitchen knife. one of the six ends up hitting him over the head with one of mr. bates' lamps. the boyfriend falls to the ground. they had just committed a murder.
mr. bates arrives home as the six stand in silence, staring at the body and watching the blood flow out of it. their boss is calm and begins to instruct them on what to do. they dispose of the body, create alibis, and try to move on. they're slowly going insane, trying to juggle all of it. they learn that getting away with murder is not so easy.

he is more on the quiet side as well, but he's a bit different. he got here from the waiting list, meaning he didn't originally make it into the program; yet he was chosen by mr. bates for the job. he seems as though he doesn't want this. he isn't exactly engaged in all the things that they're learning about or doing. he's the pessimist of the group. he generally sees the worst in things, but he's the best at keeping secrets and lying. he just so happens to be the guy the missing girl was cheating on her boyfriend with.

she's always gotten what she's wanted. nothing truly bad has ever happened to her. she got here purely on her brains. she's rather happy-go-lucky and feels at the top of the world after being chosen by the professor. everything is working out for her future, including a recent engagement. she doesn't like a lot of the things that comes along with being on the defensive side. her engagement quickly crumbles after the murder and she turns around and blames it on the rest of the group.

she's always been second. no matter what it was, she always seemed to excel at it, but wasn't quite good enough to be the best. it was this way throughout all of her schooling. now, when she is at the top, she is determined to stay there and be the very top. she is always trying to have the answer and come up with it before everyone else. she has to be the best and first. her conscious starts to get to her as she tries to act as though everything in the world is perfect.
