[align=center]'three car pile-up leaves three dead, two critically injured.'

the article was twenty years old, just like the newspaper august held in his hands as he read it over. four pictures accompanied the article - a picture of the cars twisted together like putty, and pictures of each of the people killed. two of the faces were unfamiliar, but one was all too familiar. he saw it every time he looked in the mirror.

with a grunt august threw the newspaper on the table, storming over to the mini-fridge crammed in the corner of the cramped room. he pulled out one of the last cokes in said fridge and cracked it open, taking a long sip as he looked out the window. how could the sky be so blue, how could the birds be so loud and happy, how could the sun be shining on a day like today? on the anniversary of the death of a boy who never really died.

august's story was quite a peculiar one. he'd been driving along the road when he popped a tire, causing a driver who was really too close to crash into him. a third car joined the mess, and all three drivers died - hypothetically. they should've. august was 100% dead, but suddenly he found himself gasping awake. he was lying on a large wooden table, his bare chest slathered with some weird green goo. there was some shouting in another language, then he was smacked over the head with something and knocked back out. the next time he woke up he was on the street corner of an unfamiliar city, dressed in unfamiliar clothing with a bunch of fake ids and licences in his pocket.

according to the world augustus grace was dead, but august grenier - his new identity - was very much alive. since then he's travelled all around the world, avoiding staying anywhere very long so no one notices his lack of aging. indeed, that's perhaps the strangest thing - he hasn't aged a day since the day he died. is he a zombie? no, he'd argue, since his heart still pumps blood, he isn't rotting, and he hasn't developed a taste for brains. but is he human? well...that's up to debate.

august was currently inhabiting a small apartment in the cute little town of bayshore, maine. it was a coastal town and not too bad as far as small towns go, but he was planning on moving on soon - gossip spread way too easily for his liking.

the curly-haired boy rummaged through his belongings for a clean shirt, found one that didn't reek as much as the others, threw it on and half-heartedly pulled a comb through his hair before tucking his wallet in his pocket and heading out the door. he had to go buy groceries, he was getting pretty low. that part was annoying - he didn't age, but he had to eat a lot to keep his energy up. oh well, you can't always get what you want, right?

the distance between his apartment and the local grocery store was pretty short, so he didn't mind walking. he'd just turned the corner around the bank when he slammed into someone running in the opposite direction. he let out a cry of surprise as he fell backwards hard on his ass. "ow!"

((so, my character's an undead cutie who's just trying to live life without any sort of big conflicts. your character has lived in the small town august's in all his life and has an interesting gift - when he looks at a person he can see the date they're going to die. he's so used to it that he doesn't question it anymore - until he looks at august and sees no date. intrigued, he tries to get to know august better and find out why he has no date, but august brushes him off, finding him nosey and annoying. eventually he grows on august, though, and they become friends, possibly more - but how will he react to august's secret, and what will happen when people in the town start randomly disappearing? will the pair be able to discover and stop the mysterious being behind the attacks, or will august have to flee when fingers start pointing at him? please, be advanced, 2+ paragraphs per post, good grammar, punctuation, etc., and if you have any triggers or are below the age of 13 i'd suggest not joining...if not, welcome to the thread!))

[align=center]august rubs his ass sullenly as he allows the other male to help him up, brushing himself off once he's safely on two feet again. "i'd suggest using more caution when going around corners," he said gruffly, "had you been walking any faster you might've pushed either of us into the road, and then where would we be? most likely dead."

august hadn't always been so pessimistic, but certain events had certainly changed that. events like, you know, dying. that could do it.

he lifted an eyebrow when he noticed the funny look the other male was giving him. "what, do i have something on my face? i suggest you run along now, unless you want to really want to piss me off."

[align=center]august and justin have been dating for four years, and are madly in love - well, they used to be. it's been awhile since august felt the spark that drew him and justin together, and he's sure justin feels the same way. he's tried multiple times to fix it, taking his lover on surprise dates, buying him gifts, trying his best to amp up the romance, but it seems to have no affect on justin or their relationship together.

one day justin gets a call from an old high school buddy looking to reconnect with justin, and they end up planning a double date to a fairly nice restaurant nearby. all throughout dinner august notices the friend's partner can't seem to keep his eyes off of august - and to be fair, august can't keep his eyes off of him either.

in fact, august is so interested he performs quite the risky move - he slides his foot against the man's leg. the seductive act is received well, and they end up sneaking out in the middle of dinner to have a quick, sloppy encounter. they return to their partners buzzing from their risky move, but thirsty for more, especially august, who craves attention, both physical and emotional, that justin hasn't provided for him in months. the two continue to meet up behind their lovers backs, despite the ricks they're both more than aware of. will they be able to keep their relationship under wraps, or will they be outed? what will happen when they decide to raise the stakes?

((obviously i'm august and you're the guy who eventually has the secret relationship with him. august is 23, if that helps with an age-range. proper use of grammar and punctuation would be great, and i'd prefer 2+ strong paragraphs per post. happy rping!))

[align=center]i couldn't tell you how it started. i don't think anyone could, really - not even the men themselves. i can tell you one thing, though - it didn't happen overnight. no, quite like a tsunami it built up, pulling at the foundations and widening the cracks until the inseparable bond between pete wentz and patrick stump - two of the closest people on planet earth - were at odds with one another. andy and joe did their best, bless them, and i did too. the same went for patrick's son, my best friend. we all tried our best to put out the flames, but they just kept spreading until they reached their current point - an uncontrollable blaze that threatened to take out everything, and so it did.

it was quite the show, to be fair - insults being spit back and forth so fast it was like trying to watch a fast-paced game of ping-pong ball. in the middle sat elliot and i, watching miserably as decades of friendship crumbled with just a few ill-meant words. the outcome more than surprised me - never before had it come to such a negative ending, with patrick practically yanking elliot out of the house, leaving me and my dad to watch as they pulled away. my dad kept yelling insults long after the car had disappeared, but i could only stare wide-eyed at the spot where the car had been, wondering if i'd ever see my best friend again.

it seemed like the fates were working against me. for a week my dad paced aimlessly around the house, grumbling at anything that displeased him, and wouldn't let me so much as stick my nose out the front door. text messages were exchanged, but it just wasn't enough, and my dad seemed to think any member of the stump family at the moment was as good as dead, which meant i couldn't very well invite elliot over or, horror of horrors, ask to visit his house.

a week passed and i was starting to go stor crazy when a miracle happened. it seemed that elliot had gotten just as fed up, though he was actually acting upon it. i didn't question how he was going to get over here or even how he was going to get past my godzilla of a dad, i just sent back a quick 'awesome' and set about to pick up my dump of a room a little before his highly anticipated arrival.

((are you kidding? you put my writing skills to shame! xD))

[align=center]it's the night of the double date, and as august adjusts his tie in the mirror, he can't tell if he's excited for the dinner or dreading it. it was nice that justin had planned this, but it wasn't even justin's idea, it was his friend's. justin seemed excited enough, but august figured it was more because he'd be seeing his old friend than anything else. when august joined his boyfriend in the living room of the apartment they shared he didn't get so much as a nod of approval, just a brief glance over and a muttered sign of approval. boy, didn't that boost august's self-confidence.

he rolled his eyes to himself as the two left the apartment together, headed for august's car that was parked just out front. sometimes he felt that was the only reason justin kept him around, because august had a car and he didn't. ugh, what an awful situation they were in, and justin wasn't willing to look it in the face. granted, august wasn't really either, but it was much easier for him to place the blame on someone else rather than himself.

the blond climbed into the drivers seat, following his boyfriend's directions until they arrived at a high-end restaurant on the other side of town. when august hopped out of the car justin was already halfway across the parking lot, tapping away on his phone. august sighed, quite loudly, too, jogging to catch up with him.

it appeared that they weren't the first to arrive, as when the hostess brought them to their seats their was already a couple patiently waiting. justin reacted happily, hugging one of the two men excitedly. "benny! how've you been? god, it's been ages, man!" the two chattered away excitedly, leaving august and the other, un-introduced man to sit in a surprisingly comfortable silence. august found he didn't mind, however - he was quite used to it.

a few minutes in he found himself gazing across the table at the other man. he wasn't bad to look at - in fact, he was quite attractive, with very lovely eyes. when the other man happened to look up august stuck out his hand to shake, clearing his throat. "i'm august ramone, justin's boyfriend." pfft, if you could even call him that.

[align=center]((oh, gee, thanks. xD nah, it's all good))

it's the third week of school when the official sign-up sheet first appears in the great hall. it's magically enchanted, of course - you're physically incapable of writing any name that isn't your own, you're incapable of erasing any name that isn't your own - basically there's no way you can mess with anyone's entry but your own. by lunch it had gotten over thirty names scribbled on it, quite a modest number considering my freshman year there'd been over fifty signatures.

i waited until lunch to put my name down, accompanied by my good friend leo. we'd spent the entirety of our freshman year obsessing over the contests together, talking about how we couldn't wait to get in ourselves. really, to think back on it makes me feel a little nauseous at times, how invested we were. still, there we were, signing our names, talking about the possibilities for this year's contest as we walked towards our usual lunch table.

the students from the other school, incarnate or something along those lines, were supposed to be arriving soon, but no one, it seemed, knew exactly when. therefore every student in the building had been keeping a steady eye on the large windows adorning every wall, hoping to be the first person to spot the arrival of the new faces.

it was halfway through lunch that a shout arose from the hallway just outside the cafe. multiple people raced over to see what the fuss was about, myself and leo included, clutching our sandwiches in one hand and books in the other. out on the front lawn stood a group of boys and girls alike, accompanied by several adults. we watched as professor auldwit scurried out to meet them, trailed by a few of the other teachers.

the information passed around at the beginning of our next lesson - the students of incarnate would be bunking with some of the students across campus who currently had no roommate and therefore had the room to spare, in the interest of time, since it would've been highly impractical to shuffle around the entire school, even with the aid of magic. oh, dear, i didn't have a roommate. could i be bunking with an incarnate student for the entirety of the contest? ugh. as much as i tried to stay open-minded, i'd heard a lot of stories about the stuck-up students of incarnate, including that they were quite, well, stuck-up. snobby. prissy. the kind of people i didn't have a fondness for.

sure enough, i got pulled aside between classes. i would be sharing with an upperclassmen from incarnate - oh joy, as if it couldn't get any worse - named desiderius grimm. god, even the name alone sounded snobby. he'd be unpacking when i got back to my room, and i was supposed to help him out, answer any questions he had, blah, blah, blah. well, this was going to be quite the experience.

later on i had a free period and beelined for my room, completely forgetting there'd be someone else in there when i arrived. i threw open the door to find someone lounging on the unclaimed bed, someone i had never before seen. desiderius grimm. "...hi," i said awkwardly, scooting over to the stack of books next to my bed.

((kind of a cliche thing, but meh, it works. xD))

[align=center]it's funny, august realizes, but he can tell the other man - dakota, that is - is doing his best to avoid looking at him. why? august can tell it's not because dakota has any sort of negative feelings towards him - in fact, it could be the complete opposite. could dakota be looking away from him because he's attracted to him? the thought of it sends excited shivers up his spine. he isn't used to people thinking he's attractive - or at least, showing that they think he's attractive. who even knows with justin anymore.

august starts to play with the napkin folded neatly in front of him, smiling to himself. it didn't matter that he had no real proof or confirmation that dakota found him attractive, the idea of it was enough to make him grin like mad. if justin or the other guy - benny, was it? - noticed, they didn't say a single thing. it seemed that dakota was in the same boat as him, quite neglected by the one who was supposed to love him the most.

a waiter came over and gave both august and justin waters, and august accepted his with gratitude, while justin barely acknowledged the waiter at all. rude. august took a sip of water, looking at dakota over the rim of the glass. did he dare? would he dare?

[align=center]all it took was that brief moment of eye contact to know that oh, he so dared. dakota was damn attractive, and from the way he kept glancing at august and even staring at him it seemed he felt the same way. well, thank goodness august had an idea for what to do with this information.

taking another sip of water, he simultaneously slid his foot lightly up dakota's leg, keeping steady eye contact with him the entire time. thank everything for his naturally long legs, or the move would've been less seductive and more awkward as he slowly slid under the table. yeah, that wouldn't have been too great.

after a few moments he dropped his foot back down to the floor and addressed the whole table, saying, "i think i'm going to step out for a breather for a few minutes, if that's alright?" justin shrugged and nodded, which was enough for august to stand and stretch a little before heading off towards the front door, putting the slightest swing in his step. he knew dakota's eyes were on him, and used this solely to his advantage.

boyfriend be damned, he just wanted to figure out if this blond actually had the hots for him or if he just found august particularly nice to look at. either would work, really, but august couldn't really say which one he'd prefer.

[align=center]august was waiting patiently outside for dakota, leaning up against the side of the building and gazing up at the sky. at the sound of the door opening he turned his head curiously, smiling when he saw who it was. well, at least now he knew dakota was somewhat interested, or else he most likely wouldn't have followed august out here.

august waited until dakota noticed him, only then did he saunter up to the other male. he noticed the car keys dakota held and laughed. "what, planning on ditching dinner? i wouldn't blame you, the way they're practically making heart eyes at each other in there, it's sickening." and a little heartbreaking, to be fair, but august's heart had been broken long ago, he just didn't like to admit it.

he took a step forward, sharp blue eyes defiantly daring dakota to push him away. "i don't suppose you'd fancy a walk with me, hm? nothing too long, i just find you quite interesting and would love to become...better acquainted, if you will." that was it. that was dakota's opportunity to back out, to leave well alone, to go to his car and do whatever he was going to do and never have august in his life as more than acquaintance. or...

[align=center]august huffed indignantly but obliged, shaking the other's hand roughly before dropping it altogether. "august grenier. now if you don't mind, i have things to do, and i'd like to actually do them." with that said he brushed around the dude with the name that august decided was really too long and continued walking towards the grocery store, hands shoved deep in his pockets.

he really hadn't liked how that kid looked at him - like he was looking through him, at his heart, at his mind, at his soul. ugh, whatever - so the david guy liked to stare, so what? nothing to get worked up over, he told himself as he kicked at a stray pebble on the sidewalk.
