[justify]Yin crouched low, pressing her belly against the boulder. It was still warm from the sun, which was floating aimlessly through the sky. A cold wind rolling from the south pressed into her skin. From here she could see the amusement park rolling into a swath of forest, somewhere beyond those metal buildings lay more forested territory. Though the trees were still in full-leaf, they were a shabby green, and the air had a new, musty taste that hadn't been there before. Autumn is coming, she thought.
She couldn't be muster the energy to be excited about going back to the amusement park. She was thankful for the territory and it's change from a barren desert, but the memories and hallucinations were worse here. As soon as she settled down in her bed and drifted off, her dreams would be plagued with nightmares, and her waking hours heartrending with things that were never there appearing.
She glanced over her shoulder. Sekhmet and Seven were talking in low voices as they trailed behind her. What could they have been talking about?
Suddenly, a flash of brown feather caught her eyes. An eagle was skimming over the rough slope below her. Ahead of it a hare pelted in terror, throwing up dirt and grass from it's long back feet. Folding it's wings deftly against it's sides, the eagle attacked, tumbling the hare head over heels before pinning it to the ground with thorn-sharp talons. Yin envied the eagle's speed. To be able to fly like that! She closed her eyes and imagined skimming over the grass, paws barely touching the ground, light as air, faster than the fastest prey...
A loud song broke into her thoughts. Dropping from the boulder, the hallucinations behind her exploded into stardust, her gaze breaking from the eagle now feasting on it's prey. A shiver of foreboding ran up her spine.
There had been enough sharp stones to pierce her paw-pads in every place as she began to track down the source of the song. Yin guessed there was a joiner at the border, that was usually the source of all loud noises in the usually serene forest. She tensed, knowing how awkward she could be.
Padding to the front of the last boulder and let her paws slide over the edge. It was a short, steep drop, but the grass made it look like a soft landing. She leaped. As she landed, she made her way up to the joiner, who's voice was loud and signing to the melody of an unknown song. She wasn't sure she liked it very much. Standing there, she avoided the gaze of the joiner awkwardly.
