Herds are also known as 'Bands', and they are a group of horses usually led by one lead stallion, a lead mare and a bunch of mares and foals. The lead stallion is the overall boss, and his word is law. The lead mare is the lead stallions main mate, but he covers all the mares in his herd. The lead mare is second-in-charge, and she takes control when the stallion is away or in combat. The other mares and foals just get to graze and rest under the other two's protection. A lead mare or stallion may lose their position if another horse challenges them and wins, the stallion will be kicked out and the mare will just return into a normal herd mare. If a foal is born a colt, at two to three years old he will be kicked out the herd by the current lead stallion and he will be a lone bachelor until he finds a mare of his own to start a herd with.

A bachelor is a stallion who is usually young and has just left his maternal band (A maternal band is the herd your horse was born in). They have no mares, and often travel in groups with some sort of 'leader' or the most dominant horse. They spend their time rough-housing until they come across a herd, and they work together to divide up the mares and try get one of their own. Do not mistake a bachelor with a lone stallion. A lone stallion is normally a horse who has had at least one mare of it's own and was a lead stallion, but he lost his mares and has become a lone stallion. Lone stallions are generally more experienced and older than bachelors. Bachelors are a big threat to any herd or band stallion and you must constantly watch your mares.

Lone mares are usually horses that have just split from their maternal band, or have been separated from their herd, possibly by bachelors. They spend the short period solitary, and are incredibly vulnerable to man, bachelors and/or other predators. Bachelors tend to target lone mares, but your mare can put up a fight and if the bachelor gives up, your mare will be left alone. However, being in the protection of others is better in the wild.

As you may already know, the stallions main purpose is to breed the mares to keep their bloodlines going for as long as possible. The mares often do not have much choice who breeds them, but they can be very stubborn and make it difficult for the stallion to cover them. The stallion starts off by nibbling and nuzzling against the mares neck and withers, and at first she may squeal and strike out in annoyance, but this hardly ever stops the stallion. He then licks and chews down her back and barrel, before he sniffs and nibbles at her flank and dock. He then cautiously maneuvers behind her and mounts up, covering her before dismounting and if the mare is displeased, trying to win back her trust. Each mare will need to be covered at least twice in order to guarantee foals next season.

So if your stallion is lucky enough to come across a herd, he will have the opportunity to try snag a mare, and this more often than not doesn't work, so don't get your hopes up. The stallion would start by approaching the herd casually, being wary of the lead stallion and if your stallion isn't spotted, he can circle in closer, trying to remain undetected. He can then either drop his head and pin his ears which is called 'snaking' and try drive a mare out the herd and away, or, he can go charging into the center and send the mares flying everywhere and taking off after one in hopes of catching her and claiming her. Remember, if you do snag a mare, karma may come back and slap you in the face.

Stallions can sometimes have territories, but as the seasons change, they don't often stay in one for more than a couple weeks due to lack of grass, water, shelter or maybe new dangers are closing in. However, when stallions do have a territory, it is scented powerfully and any incoming horse will know that they are passing into another horses territory. This may lead to serious consequences, but, if the territory is not currently being used, you can claim it. If there is a herd in the territory, and you want it, then you will have to fight for it, unless the stallions runs away cowardly.

You will simply put under your horses photo in the RPG 'Valley (Whatever one your in), Area (Whatever one your in) and just update it everytime you intend to move. Every area is very large, and there are plently of small territories inside each one that you can claim.

ＬＡＮＤ ＭＡＲＫＳ

The Plains;

The plains are in the center of all three valleys, and it holds the most food but is heavily populated and there is little water and shelter.

The Falls;

The Falls is a very secluded area which has a small waterfall and pond display with mere grazing scattered around the edge and a few trees to shelter under. It is almost empty, but the horses that do reside there are mostly lone mares.

The Lake;

The Lake is the biggest lake for hundreds of miles, it is where all the horses gather during all the seasons to drink and socialize, it is a dangerous place for lone mares and therefore, they often reside in the little creeks you see streaming down the hills or tucked through the plains. It doesn't freeze in the winter, and it can be seen from miles away.

[size=6pt]Callie adjusted her messy bun quickly, pulling strands down loosely by her ears in an attempt to contour her face before she smoothened down the frayed leadrope and clucked her tongue, leading Adagio towards the barn. But you know Adagio, he didn't want to do that, no. Instead, he swung his head up and tried to shoot forward closer to the horses in the floats, but Callie swung the end of the leadrope at his hind-quarters, catching his flank, and he shot around in a circle instead, skidding to a stop, tense. "You ape." She scolds, before looking back apologetically at the others, leading Adagio into the barn and releasing him into a stall where he could prance all he wanted. [/size]

[size=6pt]Adagio went quiet and behaved once Callie scolded him, he didn't like displeasing her but sometimes things got too interesting and he forget the basic ground rules the two of them had established. Once he was released into his stall, he extended his charcoal nostrils as far out as he could, lifting his upper lip and inhaling all the scents of the new horses, intrigued. [/size]

[size=6pt]Maya swung her legs with a somewhat bored expression as Hugo carefully picked his path towards the barn, trekking over rare pebbles here and there and his shoes clattering in a rhythm over the smooth paving. She stared blankly at the new arrivals with no emotion, but inside, she was rather amused watching them unload their horses and trying to manage everything at once. She bit her lip and murmured softly to Hugo, and he halted slowly, snorting. She slid off his back, beginning to walk into the barn, the lumbering, grey equine behaving for once, and treading after her, despite all the distractions, he followed her without a lead.[/size]

[size=6pt]The minute Maya slid off and began walking, Hugo quickly fell in step an inch behind her, his muzzle in the dip of her back the whole way, his ears dialing in all directions and his eyes occasionally drifting to the side before he focused back on Maya. She opened the airy stall doors and clucked her tongue, and he went inside and turned his hind-quarters. She slipped the neck-rope off of him and patted him, tying a fresh hay-net inside before she latched the stall and hung up the halter.[/size]

[size=6pt]The sight of others arriving, Luke bristled up his hair in an attractive way before he headed outside and let his curious gaze wander over the new students, and their beautiful horses. He bit his lip to restrain some sort of smile before he pulled his cell-phone out of his pocket and rung Evergreens Administrator, informing her of the new arrivals so she could be down here quickly. He hung up and glanced behind him, in the barn, a blonde girl was praising her equines and Luke glanced ahead again, biting his lip in a semi-smile. "At least there's something to look at during this introduction." He murmured ever so quietly, before proceeding to Flame's stall and slipping inside, feeding her yet another treat mostly to occupy himself.[/size]

[size=6pt]As soon as Flame saw Luke's face she knew something was on his mind and her auditories swerved in all directions, her nostrils bristling against his cheeks, trying to be cute, trying to earn another treat. "Stop it!" He laughed; his charming, gentle laugh. Flame relaxed at the sound of his voice, the only voice that had ever guided her through the times where she didn't understand. She closed her eyes and dropped her head as he itched her withers, her favorite spot.[/size]

[size=6pt]Justin led the filthy friesian into the barn, pouting, but obviously he didn't really care. Luke just laughed as he walked past, and Justin shook his head, "This guy is a real as*, I swear." He said, raising his hands as the friesian snorted and tossed his head in sort of attempt to adjust the way his mane fell. "You suit perfectly then." Luke had replied, only resulting in a friendly banter between the two as Justin clipped Donatello into a pair of cross-ties and went off to find his dandy brush.[/size]

[size=6pt]Donatello wasn't very happy when he was tied up, staring around at the new arrivals, his privacy felt a little invaded and he made it clear by stomping his feet, but he soon shut up when Hugo bellowed at him. The black horse amused himself in another way, trying to eat the ropes connected to his halter, but luckily, Justin got back in time and began to work away the dirt and grime stuck on his coat.[/size]
