APPEARANCE
[hr]
a grace under pressure, a wall of steel.
Like most BrightClan cats she has strong muscles whilst keeping a lean frame to keep her balance when moving throughout the rocky terrain. She inherited her moderate build from her father, and her family line was never really known to be among the largest of cats - even her great uncle, Galestar, was on the smaller side. The rest of her appearance is un-neglected by her mother's genes as her thick fur is almost identically hued. Brinestar is paler than her mother, an ivory accompanied by dark gray points and darker still tabby markings on her face. Her baby-blue's mirror her mother's and are pools of vibrant cobalt with both darker and silvery flecks. Brinestar's scent ironically parallels with her name - she has a rustic, sea aroma that is similar to standing on one of the cliffs overlooking the ocean near their home. As far as her voice goes it is a husky tone and becomes somewhat taut when she has to act in her position of power.

PERSONALITY & HISTORY
[hr]
i played with matches... it hurt like hell.
"I don't have this big dramatic spiel about how I was born to wicked parents, or one died shortly after my birth. No, I know some of my clan-mates were handed such fates, and I feel for them. I was the second born of my parent's first litter. Saltnose and Comfreyheart had been mates for some time, and everyone was just waiting for them to have kits - it was no surprise when we were born, but also no celebration."
"We were born in the end of a harsh leaf-bare when a sickness had swamped the clan, killing several beloved clan members. I remember the bitter stares of one warrior in particular who would watch Saltnose through glaring eyes when he would come visit us in the nursery - I would later learn that his expecting mate was one who died. Aside from that point, my siblings and I lived in a happy little bubble for the majority of our childhood. Our parents did shelter us which both annoys me, and brings me joy. My sister, Bluekit and I were exceptionally close - more so than we were with Stormkit, and maybe we should of been more open to him but he was aggressive, and reckless - something our family is not known for breeding."
"As time grew closer for our ceremony I got more, and more excited. I was sure that I'd become a good, quality warrior of BrightClan, but it wasn't in my cards to ever become one of the greats. I was apprenticed to a jovial young tom by the name of Garlicears, he was clumsy and perhaps not in my best interest to take after him in training, but he was genuinely kind and I appreciated that. Bluepaw and I were sent on our first mission together while Stormpaw was elsewhere probably stewing and widening the gap between us. A few moons later, and we were actually on our way to become adults - warriors. It was also around the time that I'd come to regret one morning in particular for the rest of my life. I tend to be unconfrontational to say the least, but Stormpaw's antics were getting out of control, and I'd had enough. So I went to his nest, and we fought fiercely, sharing hurtful words that I knew I meant, but he was my brother so I had to love him anyways. Later on Bluepaw and I went hunting with our mentors, and they sent us up a crag to hunt birds or mice. As told, we climbed the crag and hunted for a short while - I was pleased to find a mouse sitting near the crest atop the crag. I remember creeping towards its small body when all of a sudden a familiar form flung across my vision. It took me a moment to comprehend the actions as they played in slow-motion in front of me. I tried my best to grab my brother's paws as he went sailing over the edge of the crag, mouse in tow, but it was to no avail as I watched him plummet to his death. I forced myself to watch, hold his glazed over gaze as he fell so that rock walls weren't the last thing he saw."
"This brought on a time of mourning for my family. I expected it of course, but I don't think I shared the sorrows of my parents. Neither did Bluefin, and I could tell her lack of sympathy tormented her. I knew I would see Stormpaw again someday, I just had that feeling - so I never really let it bring me down, or tear me apart. In all honesty, his death was kind of a relief. I could keep my head down and focus on my training. I didn't have many friends, not intentionally; I found enough social gain from sharing tongues with my sister or sitting by with her friends. When my apprenticeship came to a close I was ready for it. I felt ready - like the next big thing was waiting for me just around the corner. Maybe I wouldn't be invisible anymore."
"'Brinefrost! Brinefrost!' I can still hear the chants of my clan-mates echoing through my memory - one of my favorites. I was finally an equal among my peers - I had felt like an adult trapped in a feeble kit body my whole life up until that moment. The glory was short lived, however, because after a few days I returned to being the nobody cast along that no one noticed. Really, I didn't mind so much. I wasn't the first cat, even the second gossiped about at sundown, or the first to be brought up on the troubled names' list. Just Brinefrost skirting by her life waiting for this big moment that was, inevitably never going to happen. This waiting was finally put on hold around my twenty-sixth moon - my grand turning point."
"Turtlespine, Orcastar's beloved deputy finally retired and so it was in due time that he would appoint BrightClan's new deputy. The propspect excited me, but I knew it was a long shot. Apparently the odds were in my favor because only moments after he addressed the clan he was calling my name. My name. I wasn't nervous at all - this was what I was meant for, I could feel it; but how could it be? I had gone unnoticed my whole life - or so I thought, apparently Orcastar was looking out for me. It was a comforting thought despite the pause of shock before my clan-mates realized he actually said my name. I knew it was my time to step up and accept the challenge placed on my shoulders. It took a couple of moons for the rest of my clan to consider me eligible for the position and warm up to the fact that they would have to also come to me as their deputy. I'm not denying that I didn't relish it."
"My next trial was handed to me on a silver platter. The wind was knocked right out of me when Orcastar approached me on a hunting patrol in the middle of Greenleaf to profess his feelings for me. I immediately recognized all the kind gestures he had done for me in that moment, and I called into question his intentions of making me deputy. I told him I would need a few days to digest the news, although I knew my feelings - or lack thereof. After a sun, or so had passed I summoned the courage to let him down, and accept the horrible fate I feared would follow. I couldn't step down as deputy, not after everything I had worked for. After the confrontation I felt terrible for questioning any of his previous motives because his reaction was deeply understanding. It made me love him even more so, but not in the way he wished it to be. I returned to my normal duties with a pressure lifted off my shoulders, and from there I soared."
"Around my thirty-third moon I began to find my attention slipping towards an elegant gray-and-white she-cat by the name of Daffodilnose. It was the first time I had ever felt something so fierce, like an internal fire had been lit inside me. We shared a lot of time together for a moon, or so and I was as happy as I had ever been, nothing could stop that kind of elation. We got serious fast, but I knew it wasn't wrong because I truly loved her as cheesy as it sounds. I had never imagined myself having kits before, but she wanted them so I was willing to broaden my mind to the matter. It was really happening - her childhood friend agreed to father the kits, and I liked him so I didn't mind in the least. I was even excited about the idea of being a mother who could still thrive in her ranking."
"Our plans came to a screeching halt when our medicine cat came to me to discuss the growing situation with Orcastar. I hadn't even noticed the way he had been acting out, dismissing it as jealousy - how petty of me. Our medicine cat informed me that they believed something was awry with him, medically. The thought was shattering, I could feel my veins turn to ice and with it stop everything else in my life. In the coming moons I could feel myself pulling away from Daffodilnose, and I hated it because I couldn't express why in order to preserve Orcastar's image. I miss her, but I do not regret the sacrifices I had to make for the tom who shaped me. I owed it to him to gradually assume his responsibilities without causing a scene. It was growing more and more difficult, however, and almost impossible as he banished a few of our warriors and apprentices from the clan entirely."
"I could see the light at the end of the tunnel as Orcastar's reign drew to a close. It tore me apart when I realized I would have to be the one to finish it after all I had built him up as. To see my hero fall and be the reason to was devastating. Ah, here we are: so close to the present it hurts. Just a couple of days ago I called a meeting - I'm sure you remember to address what had been going on, and how Orcastar was no longer fit to be leader. Those words tasted like bile burning in my throat, but they couldn't go unspoken any longer. My words led to a fight breaking out amongst extreme Orcastar loyalists and others who were more suspicious of his most recent behavior. Blood was shed within my clan on my watch, but at least the end of a frightening storm was coming, I think. Following the clash Orcastar agreed to join me on a patrol to the Mooncave with a select few warriors and apprentices as witness. I haven't spoken about what happened that night, and the rest of the patrol swore to StarClan they wouldn't unless my word was given. The next thing I knew, I was returning as the leader of BrightClan. It was then that I realized so many new lights lay at my paw, and that I would be the one to blaze this period of BrightClan's path."
summary::
Brinestar's greatest challenge remains in gaining her clan-mate's trust - amending the ties she no doubt has broken. She is an incredibly hard-working she-cat who has no trouble in acquiring new skill unless it comes to those in the social department. She has always been a soft character, no one ever looking at her and seeing the stoney or fiery brilliance they expect in a leader. Brinestar is laid back and calculating - a force to be reckoned with in her own respect. She does not need strength or ambition to get her anywhere but her own wit. She is occasionally known to be sharp-tongued, but hardly loses her cool. Most often wanting to avoid conflict altogether she usually goes with the flow. Easily overlooked, it would seem easy for her to be trampled on as well. Her clan-mates have surely tried, but in the past few moons she has embraced herself and matured so greatly in an internal fashion that there seems to be no trace of self-consciousness left in her. Anyone who has noticed her growth would be blind to not see the stoney hardness she has acquired, but even so she doesn't need to step on others or be fierce in order to lead BrightClan. She is no doubt a leader unlike any other in BrightClan history. Despite her growth since becoming a warrior there is still a long way to go in her ups and downs that will sway BrightClan's fate.
