If the thought of him as a brother doesnt make you quesy, then yea, id just say you want to be really close friends because he brings out the best in you and makes you feal comfortable. If your not attracted to him in a Romantic way(Which is perfectly fine), then thats pretty much that.

Though, from there it can go two ways. It can 'bloom' as they say, in to romantic feelings over time. or you will have a best friend who is of the opposite sex(Its not as unicorn rare as people make it out to be)

Just make sure he only feels plutonic as well, especially if you like hugs. its important to know what he thinks aswell and you dont want to send mixed signals. Ask him what he sees you as (friend, Possible gf, Lil sister, ect.) If he says he likes you in a more romantic way, dont freak out and try and force yourself to like him that way. It will make you two miserable in the long run. As for how let him down gently, youll have to ask someone else.... if he says friend or lil sister, your good there either way :P
