    Blackflame

    Blackflame flicked his tail and rose to his paws, padding towards the camp entrance. Slipping out, he parted his jaws and tracked a whiff of squirrel scent to a tall beech with nuts scattered at the base. Sure enough, a gray furry rodent sat nibbling a beech nut. Dropping into a crouch, Blackflame approached from downwind of the squirrel. He crept closer, until he was a couple of foxlengths away. The black-and-ginger tom kept his amber eyes fixated on the squirrel as he stalked closer. Then, he waggled his haunches and tucked in his paws, to ensure extra spring. He leaped, and sank his claws into the squirrel's tail, nipping its throat deftly.


    Silvershadow swiveled her ears towards the camp entrance, just as Blackflame left. She sighed, and picked up the smaller sticks and twigs in her jaws. Rearing up onto her hindl paws again, she dumped the sticks on the roof, away from the hole. She studied the pile of twigs, and selected the few largest. Weaving them in between the branches, she created a thick mesh, able for the thinner sticks to fit through. Then we could fasten down some moss on top, she thought.

    Silvershadow glanced up as she heard paws squelching in mud. The roof seemed packed and hard, with moss sealing the gaps. She meowed a quick 'Bye', and then whisked out. ''It looks fine inside.'' She reported to Peppernose, leaning forward to push down a tufty piece of moss. She tucked it in between a twig and and hooked it onto a thorn. She waved her tail, then observed the muddy ground beneath her paws.
    ''Guess we'll have to start cleaning up, then.''She remarked, and started to strip ferns from the edge of the clearing. She came back and laid them out, in front of the mud. She started to roll the mud around, it began a sort of solid ball in her paw. She pushed it on to the fern and repeated the process, until the fern was covered in mud. She wrapped more leaves around it and padded out of camp, the leaf wrap clutched in her jaws. She dumped it behind some bindweed, and kicked dust over it.


    Blackflame picked up his squirrel and lifted his head, ears pricked. He followed his back, retracing his pawsteps. He saw a light gray tabby, and recognized Silvershadow. She disappeared behind a hanging of leaves which covered the camp entrance. There it is! Blackflame thought, and padded through. He stepped out into camp, and deposited his prey on the fresh-kill pile.

She studied her once-gray paws. They were now a deep brown, with mud between the claws and toes. She inwardly shrugged, and headed out again, slipping through the dense camp entrance. She raised her muzzle and parted her jaws, letting the scents swamp her senses. She picked out the clear smell of a stream, and followed it. Eventually the forest broke into a clearing, with a creek running through. Silvershadow hesitated as she neared the water's edge. She didn't like water, but it was for the best. She closed her eyes ad jumped in, the cold water soaking her pale belly fur. She gasped, and tensed until she became used to the temperature. Then she began to rub her paws together, and the mud and silt flowed down the current, rinsing her paws clean. Silvershadow doubted it had cleaned all the mud, and that she'd spend some of her time sharpening her claws and picking out pieces of dirt.[/fancypost]
