The leopard approached, quietly as per usual, his amber gaze on the newcomer, whose verbal fumbling did remind him of himself, when he was at The Rift's border in a last attempt at doing something, at leaving the ashes instead of swimming in them as he had. He hadn't wanted to be the one left behind, because in the end, or several of the ends anyway, that was who he had been. Not the deserter, but the deserted, and feeling that way- coming here had been an attempt to change that. Blues had made it easy.

"Hi," he greeted, moving to stand alongside Blues, whose fur he did glance over at, wondering what he'd missed yet again. "I'm Rafferty. Enjoy your...stay." That was too hotel receptionist-y, wasn't it?

They were building birdhouses in woodshop. Usually, in the advanced class they didn't do things so simple, but it was for a community project, and none of them found any hardship in it. People who worked with their hands, putting pieces together, making measurements, carefully lining up the power saw, etcetera, weren't usually bored if that was what they were doing, but when it was too easy, they did grow a bit tired of it. Personally, Rafferty didn't mind, except for the part where his friends -and boyfriend- loved to text during class. In woodshop, getting to his phone was nearly impossible. Nearly. Rafferty finished drilling in the last of the nails on the roof of the birdhouse, phone vibrating against his leg, and he glanced at the instructor, a Mrs. Stephens who came from an agriculture background. She loved to talk about the farm back home.

He removed his goggles, swept wood shavings from his pants that he hadn't caught earlier after cutting the pieces he needed, and slipped over to the shorter woman. "Excuse me, I- may I use the bathroom?" She gave a nod, pointing to the bathroom pass, as though this was the first time he'd gone, and he murmured a thank you before scurrying off down the hall, ducking into the bathroom. Someone else was there, texting too, and they more or less ignored each other while Rafferty pulled out his own phone.

I can't miss the block after lunch. I have a test. But I'm up for lunch, yeah. He wasn't fond of skipping, no. He wanted to...do his best. He hated missing anything, school wise. I'm in shop now, so sorry if I don't text back right away after this.

Rafferty wasn't...He wouldn't be of any use here. Not unless they needed him to fetch something, or hold something down, things that anyone could do with minimal chance of screwing up. He doubted he was a comforting figure; the fact they hardly knew each other meant his support would probably be far less helpful when compared to the others'. He felt useless, but that was nothing knew, and the leopard's gaze was attached to her form, to the many injuries she'd sustained. He'd seen worse, he knew he had. That still didn't make any of this easier to see, and he lingered, hanging back, head lowered. If he wasn't able to make himself immediately useful, he might as well stay out of their way.

Rafferty was hiding. He hadn't left his room since he spent the night in a fitful sleep, tossing, turning, and generally unable to do more than try falling asleep. He didn't feel well. It wasn't a physical illness, as it had been before with the leopard battling a fever, but one that started with an ominous twinge in the back of his mind, gradually growing until his already worrying self worried even more. It was one of his low days, maybe; that was the only explanation he had for why he was focusing so much on all he had to lose, if something- if something happened. And he went into hiding because of it. Not just a 'seclusion' type of hiding, but the 'curl under the bed' kind, face pressed in the corner of the wall, trying to process it all away.

Okay, hiding under the bed was over the top, but he couldn't deny that here, where it was completely quiet, where he wasn't being immediately reminded of everything he was attempting to help sink in, he could concentrate easier. Rafferty shielded his head with his paws, his tail the only sign of where he was, since he had it stretched out, too long for the length of the bed to match. Just a second, maybe two, and he could get his head on straight; he had to. Of all the problems he knew people were having here, his had to be simple. needing less time. In other words, unimportant, when it was just Rafferty needing some away time before he could be in tip top shape again.

/sorry if any of this doesn't make sense, i'm half asleep

"Did I what, Blues? Rape you? Oh yes I did." The rest of what the male spoke was drowned out by the sound of the leopard's pulse, blood roaring in his ears, muscles bunching visibly beneath his fur. Rape. He'd raped Blues, and he was- he didn't care. Blues -kind, gentle, amazing- had been raped by this- this filth. This monster. And he was here, hurting Blues again, who didn't- looking at him, he could see the fear, the panic, memories in his eyes playing, and the pain there, he couldn't stand it. He wouldn't.

There were too many words. Too many of them, useless taunting, not enough. It wasn't enough. Was this how his father had felt? This- this urge to tear and claw, rip and bite, stain the ground red? He was shaking now, shaking head to tail, and from the depths of his throat, a feral growl rumbled, increasing in volume until the leopard launched himself at Bandaged, aiming to tackle him to the ground, and if he managed to do that, he'd try to slam his head against the dirt. "I'll kill you. I'll *ing kill you," he muttered, over and over again, a crimson film veiling his vision. Dead. Kill him dead.

    /no? maybe a little

Blues. Blues was here. That was meant to make him feel better, wasn't it? Then why did he still feel so miserable? 'I'm going to lose you, aren't I?' The words were lodged in his throat. He'd known, for a while, that there would be an end but he hadn't felt like it was knocking at the door already, like it was circling above their sagging bodies, waiting for the light to die. He'd known 'one day', not 'tomorrow.' Maybe it wasn't tomorrow, but then it would be the day after that, or the day after that and he wasn't- this wasn't processing as well as he wanted. He hated he had been brought to cowering under the bed, when he could be doing something, such as keeping the worry from his loved ones' brows and voices. He swallowed, tucking his head into his paws even more, tail slowly curling in, no longer visible from beneath the bed. For a moment, he was silent.

Then he was clearing his throat, shoving down his anxiety and fears to slowly slide out from under the bunk, amber gaze averted. "I was just...cleaning. Don't want spiders." He rubbed a paw over his eyes, still unable to look at any of them. He may not have been in a ball beneath the bed anymore, but he was still hiding.

Dia wasn't questioning it. Not verbally, anyway; he was thankful for that, mostly. Rafferty wasn't fond of talking about how he was feeling unless it was confessing his love for Blues, because it was...hard to put them into words. Into the language they knew. He could stomp about, pass his paws over his face, bunch his muscles, but none of that would actually be considered speaking, would it? And it wouldn't shed any light on what was coursing through his head, either. No matter how much he wished it would. The leopard drew in a breath, about to reply when Blues exhaled his name, and his gaze snapped up, a little wide to hold the hurt- secondhand hurt, more like. Hurt that came because he was hurting Blues with his silence and his hastily made lies.

He bit his lip. If only it were that easy to just- talk. Say what was on his mind but he was at The Rift's border again, unable to speak without stumbling or floundering completely, and he lifted a paw to his neck. "I don't," he began, before he cut himself off, frustrated. That wasn't how he meant to start, or how he'd wanted to start. He glanced to Dia, to Kaz, to Treasure, and then Aly, darting between them. He hated the way he knew his face had scrunched up in effort to- to keep from blurting nonsense. "I'mscared," Rafferty finally admitted, speaking without the slightest of pause between words. He inhaled. "I'm- I'm scared. And I can't- it's. It's too much for me. I tried but I can't stop thinking that- that you won't be here because someone will take you away from me and I don't know if I can wait anymore, I've waited and waited and waited before but they don't come back and-" Again, he silenced the rush, gritting his teeth, before he was moving into Blues' space, tucking his head on his shoulder like he was trying to fold into him. "But at the same time I just- I'll wait for you. Because I love you." And that was the reason he'd always waited, time and time again with bated breath.

/good thing I have lots of tissues

Always. His breath hitched, both from the promise, and the contact given to him, the leopard pressing even closer to Blues, eyes squeezing shut. He was still scared. Terrified, really, because Blues- he trusted him, yeah. He knew he meant what he promised, but losing him- he couldn't do that again. Not after the first time, and not now when he felt he was losing him a second time, like something was wrong, creeping up on the pair of them, and he sunk his teeth into his lower lip to bury the continued confessions. He needed to stop being so fearful, if not for himself then for Blues because he didn't want him worrying. But that was difficult to do when Blues could read him as easily as Rafferty did Shakespeare in his spare time, and he didn't want to hide from him, not really. If anything he wanted more moments similar to this, warm in each other's embraces to soothe over throbbing aches. Was that selfish of him?

He was shaking his head as Blues spoke again, shifting away, though he didn't leave their space, just a bare few inches away. "I know," he said, a small smile on his lips, but it wasn't entirely happy. Sad, maybe. "I know you won't give up. And I- won't give up on you, either. I'll wait. It won't be easy but I've learned that- that," he swallowed, gaze bright from the "I love you" that would never not have him wanting to simultaneously duck down and wrap himself around Blues without any intention of ever letting him go. "You're worth everything. Blues, you- I don't like being without you. I won't- who will I recite Shakespeare to? 'I think of this, and all my universe becomes perfection.'" There was another jerk in his breathing. "I'll always want you. No matter what. Remember that."

This wasn't exactly a 'hey' situation, but neither was it a 'freak out and fret' situation either, not when Blues was...His gaze, returning from jumping between the others present, went to the leg, and he swallowed; who did this? Knowing wouldn't...would it help? After what Rafferty had done before, he didn't think he could be trusted with that information anymore. He should have- he should have gone to Blues, first, but he hadn't. He'd lost his temper and, like what had happened to his father, he lost trust. But this time he wasn't going to leave him alone, and the leopard moved closer, quiet for the most part.

"Blues," he murmured, eyes on Dia a brief moment, and again, he swallowed. "Yeah. Just- time for some rest. I'll- keep you company, if you want me to."

[Center][fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor= transparent; width:350px; maxheight:;;font-size:10pt; text-align:justify; font-family:georgia]Home. A nice word to use, Rafferty supposed, but for himself it wasn't one he threw around lightly. Connotation tended to be everything, at least for someone who wanted what few words he managed to say mean something. The leopard offered a small smile as he padded over quietly, settling beside Blues, glancing at the flowers. "Welcome to The Rift." He ran one paw over the other, shuffling them. "I'm Rafferty." Everything else important had already been spoken.

-Rafferty's name is Irish and means 'prosperity, abundance'
-Don't know if I've mentioned this but he gets his love of Shakespeare from his mother
-He also gets his temper from his father, but in very widespread outbursts, rather than frequent ones
-He's been a leopard, a tiger, and a collie. Leopard stuck because it's what he was born as
-He met his niece when she was berating him for being a drunk
-Had a character bond with his sister Zara, whom he inadvertently abused due to his drinking
-Rafferty has an intense dislike for the ocean because his father drowned. And Exilers, because they killed his father. Basically anything that ever killed his dad he hates
-Mistook friendly love for his (girl) best friend for real interest and became very confused

    and that's pretty much it
