Evan turned his head, the tiger's tail twitching as he squinted gently around. He padded quietly through the cave interior till he found a beautiful patch where the moonlight shone down on him. The moon had always been his favorite spot, a little patch of heaven, of the unreachable, of the unattainable, that could only be observed from afar, and only parts of it some nights, and only at night. It was an exclusive vision that was at the same time year round.

His stare fixated on the orb hanging in the sky, deep brown eyes trying to see some sort of deeper meaning hidden in the alignment of the night stars. Evan picked up a paw, licking the space between his claws. He was still a small and clumsy fellow, a child at only two moons of age. The young tiger cub's ears twitched back and forth.

A butterfly spirit sat on his shoulder, wings fluttering gently. She was a quiet soul, never saying very much. Her wings were pitch black as the night, with red spots framing the upper section of her wings. She took off from her perch on his shoulder, dancing around before his eyes, her wings catching the moonlight. He smiled as he watched her showing off, making a play of shadows on the cave wall.

Seeing ghosts was nothing unusual it seemed, although generally it seemed to be a side effect of something. It seemed as though also they were often quiet forces that didn't make much of a snitch. Evan wouldn't know. He didn't have the Sight, at least not to his knowledge. Evan had a few friends, ones no one else could see. He hadn't told anyone about them yet, and sometimes he didn't think they were friends. They weren't ghosts though, he didn't think. They said they weren't and he believed them. They said he would see them soon, all the ghosts.

The young tiger cub was interested in them, though. They were his destiny -- that was what the dog had told him. Evan hadn't seen the dog in a while. The dog might even not be a spirit, he thought. Evan wasn't sure either way. Still, he approached the kitten curiously, the tiger's whiskers twitching. "why'd that make you change your name?" He asked interestedly of the apprentice.

Evan turned his head suddenly, eyes turning wide as he looked at the honorguard. "Huh?" He hadn't had many comments on the butterfly before, and it had never really occurred to him that he may or may not be a butterfly and chose to take the form of one anyway. What did souls look like?

"Oh, it's a..." He tilted his head, not really seeing the deeper part of her query. Why would he? In intelligence, he was not severely lacking, but it was not something one spoke of with great exuberance either. The tiger cub was uncertain why she was so curious of the matter. "It's a butterfly, right?" Was she seeing something else? Did they look different to other people?

"What's a mudslide?" Evan asked, wandering up. The deep colored orange and black stripes of the tiger moved gently against the shadows. He jumped up, his tail twitching to keep his balance, excitement in his posture. A spirit butterfly flew on ahead of him. It was his constant companion, the little thing fluttering at his side. The flit was primarily black, with small patches of red like droplets of fresh blood on its wingtips. Evan tipped his head, looking at the advisor and the other one curiously. He was still getting to know just about everyone, but it didn't stop him from sticking his nose places.

"I don't know, it always does that. Are they not supposed to glow?" He asked the older and more experienced individual. Evan wouldn't know -- the black and red butterfly was the only one he'd ever known. It flitted its wings quietly, coming up before Morningpaw as if awaiting some inspection.

The young tiger cub hadn't given much thought to his own name, or the name of anyone else. Apparently this one was called Morning. Interesting. His eyes turned toward her, deep brown considering. Butterfly would be a nice name. He had never thought about naming his children -- he was two moons old! He'd never had a thought about his supposed future family. It was all a fantasy. "You're Morning, huh? I'm Evan."

"Maybe you're just not special enough for them to glow for you." Evan said with a shrug. He didn't mean any insult by his words -- it was just the first explanation that had popped into his young little head. He was only two moons old, generally offense was not intended. He cocked his head, wondering why she was laughing. What did she find so amusing? He liked the butterfly well enough but saw nothing particularly amusing about it in that moment.

The small tiger copied Morningpaw's motions, plopping himself down and crossing his legs just as she had. "I'm looking at the moon. Isn't pretty?" He said with a wide grin on his face. His nose jerked up to point at the shimmering pale white sphere. Evan blinked. "Anyway, I'm not alone. I have a butterfly." Truth was, he didn't really have friends yet. He hoped to, of course.

Bloodlines got confused and mangled with the way with all the npc litters running amok, and most of them didn't stick around. But the ones that did were fun and amusing and gave something to play off of. For his part, Evan didn't know much about who was related to who, and to him it did not matter all that greatly. It was not blood that made the soul tied to anything after all. It was unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

Evan was bored and there was no one else around to bother. His butterfly could not entertain him all the time. After all, it was just a thing flitting around. The spirit was seemingly mute, so it could not provide for conversation either. The young tiger started blowing cold air at, seeing if the change in temperature would awaken the arctic fox. He didn't know he was related to her.

He blinked as she sat up abruptly, his tail flicking back and forth slowly, brown eyes intent.

"Oh um...do I need help?" Evan asked, making the question earnest rather than irate. The young tiger cub's tail flicked gently. "Can you help me with something?" He questioned further. He would love to get help with something, then he'd be better and able to take care of himself and all kinds of other good things. Evan licked his paw, wondering exactly who he'd just awoken from a nap. Maybe he should have thought things through a bit more thoroughly.

"Not yet." Evan said. He wasn't sure if he thought it would speak or not. He didn't care either way, but the fact that it hadn't spoken to him yet meant he didn't know any more about what it was than anyone else. It just liked to follow him around. That was what it seemed like, anyway. The young tiger shook his head. "I don't talk to things that don't talk back. That would be silly." It wasn't like some kind of little mobile diary or anything. He just did as he would with it, which was pretty much just watching it flit around his head, sometimes landing on his body or resting on another rock. "It just follows me around."

"Do you have company?" He asked interestedly, tilting his nose down again, gaze falling from the beautiful sky stretched out through the crack in cave ceiling. He wondered how other people got company, and if it was things like spirit butterflies fluttering around.

"Oh. How am I supposed to know anything about what you can help me with if I don't know what I need help with? Or what you could help me with?" Evan said, shaking his head. This was a confusing conversation. Evan didn't know what to do about it, but it was making his head hurt so he decided going back to the basics would be better.

"I'm Evan, anyway. It's just, I don't think I need help. But maybe I do and I don't even know it." Evan commented. Evan never said his full name. It was sort of silly and long and he didn't even understand what any of the words meant, since he'd never even had a nightmare before. He'd taken to calling himself Evan, and so everyone else seemed to as well. Maybe some future love of his would give him a different nickname, or shorten it even further.

Evan wandered over. He had heard that Honey had been attacked by a dog. He didn't understand why they would do that. Why would a dog attack her? Weren't there better things to attack? And why attack anything at all? What did they have to gain from it? What was the purpose? The young tiger cub wasn't sure why it was such a big deal. But he did not need to understand these things yet. It was early in his life still, and death was such a constant thing that it seemed inevitable that he would learn what it was soon enough. "Can I help with a game?" A game seemed like fun. He was down for that.

"Yeah. I guess." He said. "What does old and new mean anyway? When do you get to cross that line, when can you call something old or something not new?" He said in quiet commentary. Evan tilted his head. He didn't really want to be considered new. But he definitely didn't want to be old. "Are you new? Or are you old?" Or was there something that was not new or old, but simple...right. Or something else...something obscured somehow. Apparently Evan had a philosophical streak.

"Just because they don't talk back doesn't mean they don't understand. Anything you say, anyone could hear." Evan said seriously, his eyes intent. And he wasn't even talking about those total creeps with the super senses who could understand everything from ways away, enough you might never even notice a peep had been peeped on.

The tiger cub wondered if she was sad about not having company for the moment, or was just a little lonesome and so had come up to talk to the strange boy staring at the moon. It sounded like the sort of thing Evan would have done, just to try to move into the world. You had to make connections to souls or you would just float away, be voiceless as anyone. The old connections made them strong. "I wasn't as alone as you. I had a butterfly." He contradicted her, tail flicking gently.

"Well you kind of seem on the smaller side." Evan said with a smile, nodding to Warkit. "I'm Evan. Your name's kinda violent, you know." Not that size told the tale behind a physical form. None of those little things mattered at all. The young tiger cub tilted his head up toward Mizu, who was his sister, wondering what she was doing up in a tree.

He tried to think of a good game where you didn't have to move or see things. That sort of limited the fun things one could do. Evan tilted his head, tail flicking in time with his thoughts, slow for a few beats and then a fair bit faster. "We should play an imaging game." He said. He wasn't quite sure what he meant by that, but it sounded like a good thing to say.

"It's all relative then, isn't it?" Evan said thoughtfully. His whiskers twitched uneasily as he thought about it. Old and new and not new. "Why do we use words like those anyway?" He said. "They're so confusing." The tiger cub replied with a sigh. "Words are confusing, you know?"

Did you find her?" He asked with quiet interest, tilting his head. He wasn't sure who he was related to, and so he couldn't imagine going off somewhere to look for some strange sister he had never seen before. But maybe she'd been close to that missing sister. She'd never said anything about not knowing of her.

"I'll help you." The tiger cub offered, without really thinking about it. The little cub probably wouldn't do much of any good to Cynthia, but he had no real thought in his mind to exactly what he was saying, what he might be committing to. There was no real reason say such a thing anyway, and the sister may very well be dead. But he had liked seeing the nice little smile on her face and found himself a little disappointed to have it gone. "Why are you keeping looking though, why's it so important?"

"What? It sounds like fun." Evan said with a shrug. Adventuring around looking for someone couldn't be bad. "And if you went by yourself, you might get sad and lonely." That was how people got when they failed at things -- that's what he'd seen evidence of in the past, anyway.

He didn't know his father or mother that much either. Actually he had no idea who his father was. The tiger cub wasn't sure how much it mattered though. Evan tilted his head as he listened to her talking about how important it was, and why. It seemed like it was just because she had been the only thing Cynthia had. Now, he would have thought, she would have more things. "Who is him?"

"Since I don't know you at all, seems like a good thing to try." Evan said cheerfully, coming up and looking at the deputy. The young tiger sniffed gently, wondering what the best question to ask was, the sort of thing that really got you to have a better understanding of another person. But he couldn't think of the soul-searching stuff at the moment. He was stuck with nothing at all, his mind humorlessly void.
