Evan turned his head, the tiger's tail twitching as he squinted gently around. He padded quietly through the cave interior till he found a beautiful patch where the moonlight shone down on him. The moon had always been his favorite spot, a little patch of heaven, of the unreachable, of the unattainable, that could only be observed from afar, and only parts of it some nights, and only at night. It was an exclusive vision that was at the same time year round.
His stare fixated on the orb hanging in the sky, deep brown eyes trying to see some sort of deeper meaning hidden in the alignment of the night stars. Evan picked up a paw, licking the space between his claws. He was still a small and clumsy fellow, a child at only two moons of age. The young tiger cub's ears twitched back and forth.
A butterfly spirit sat on his shoulder, wings fluttering gently. She was a quiet soul, never saying very much. Her wings were pitch black as the night, with red spots framing the upper section of her wings. She took off from her perch on his shoulder, dancing around before his eyes, her wings catching the moonlight. He smiled as he watched her showing off, making a play of shadows on the cave wall.
