Bonfires were not his thing. Dealing with other people, still not his thing. Socializing in general - again, not quite his thing, so why he had actually brought himself to come to this thing was a mystery in and of itself.
It was probably Hanna's fault. Ever since he'd met the girl who he shared chem with only a few months, she'd kind been roping him into doing stuff with her, including parties and the like; a bonfire wasn't much different. What she didn't seem to understand was that was not his idea of a good time. Not to say he was a total recluse, but he enjoyed his alone time and wasn't exactly the walking definition of a social butterfly.
Back to the whole bonfire deal though. It was the end of year; a pretty relaxed time as far as he was concerned. He'd literally just finished the last of his finals only days earlier, and quite frankly, Kailean wanted to relax, but of course, thanks to his poor choice in friends, that wasn't going to happen albeit he was used to not getting what he wanted by now.
It had been a particularly warm day, which was surprising considering it was the middle of winter, but now with the clock reading 7:39 and the sun sinking into the sky, it had cooled down significantly, and Kailean noticed that almost as soon as he stepped out of his car. Well, Hanna's car. She had insisted he ride with her to the bonfire, which was on the shore of the local beach; he hadn't found it in himself at the time to argue with her. "Holy balls, it's cold." he hissed, sending a nasty glare Hanna's way as she stepped out of the driver's side, her grey eyes sparkling with amusement. Of course the weather didn't affect her; she was wearing shorts for crying out loud. Long story short, she was a lot braver than him.
"It's not that bad," he heard her mumble, causing the platinum blond to scoff and resist the urge to knock some sense into that scattered brain of hers. He could see the fire from where they were parked, and while it looked as enticing as could be, he also noticed the substantial amount of people. Wow, what a great combination. Irresponsible college kids plus fire, awesome. Not to mention the alcohol that had to be down there as well. It wasn't a party without it, right?
So, with a dramatic groan, the blond started down towards the crowd, right on Hanna's heels. It was going to be a long night.
