appearance by way of appearance, xi doesn't particularly take after any particular form. indeed, she's a calamity all by herself. her coat is as sleek and smooth as a crow's wing, and the same color, too--a pitch, void-like black that almost shimmers deep violet under light. (this was her original fur color, but after a couple weeks she went through a mysterious change of pelt.) though she's tall and slender, muscles ripple under her fur as a testament to her strength. much more eye-catching, though, are the ever-shifting rainbow lines pressed onto her body, starkly colorful in contrast to her otherwise black fur.
curving and intricate, slender trails of rainbow color twine around her build, actively changing color but always retaining their bright spectrum. they appear almost as crop circles around her long tail, vines around her body and legs. there's another line tracing the lower curve of each almond-shaped eye, along with four small dots in a row underneath. speaking of eyes, hers seem to hold entire rainbows, dancing with warm and cold colors, mixtures of reds and blues and yellows and greens. all in all xi appears mystical and enigmatic, like a cult leader or a fortune teller.
xi moves with a brisk elegance, gliding but quick. a smirk is always found lazily playing on her maw, as if she knows something you don't. a small, tacky accessory is often clipped to the top of her head, off-kilter and looking as if it's about to fall off. it's in the shape of a crown, all golden lines and purple plush. a small price tag is attached to it by a thin thread, reading "10 ¢." This serves to offset her elegance somewhat with a queer, probably ironic gesture, though it also adds a dash of playfulness to her appearance that makes her more approachable and, somehow, vaguely sinister.
personality relaxed and easygoing at a first glance, xi seems laid-back enough when you first meet her. though a little lazy, she's congenial and affable, and it isn't too hard to get along with her. however, her sophisticated way of speaking and intriguing ideas grant her an aura of enigma, and soon you can see just how unpredictable she is.
whimsical and volatile, there's no telling what she's going to do or say next. she has a convoluted way of thinking in which she values randomness over all else, preferring her life to be arbitrary and totally free of bounds. she loves playing mind and political games with people but adds an element of chance and luck to her little matches. fate is a huge presence in her beliefs, and though xi doesn't think true randomness is possible, she wants to come as close to it as she possibly can. and she'll do so through her strange systems.
if she holds you captive, your life may depend on the flip of a coin. a choice of song or a drawn card can mean the difference between her going on a murderous rampage or becoming a saint. the choices are endless, infinite, and impossible to predict. (well, improbable.) adaptable and independent, she lets fate and probability make her decisions, from what she's going to eat for breakfast that day to who she'll spare and who she'll destroy. as such, xi isn't dependable or loyal at all. she has the uncanny knack of severing her ties and responsibilities, no matter how important, if the draw of a card decides that it must be so. even if you somehow become her closest friend, there's still a chance of her murdering you in your sleep if you're unlucky.
so yes, xi is a sociopath. but hey, she's a fun sociopath.
systems musical mayhem xi is a total music fanatic. not only does she have effortless control over her voice, she has genius musical ability, rhythmic flow, etc. etc. it helps that she knows pretty much all the songs out there, obscure or otherwise. often she totes around a black mp3 player, which is chock-full of countless songs, and white earphones, two prized possessions of hers. when she needs to make a complex choice, she'll dig these out, put her giant playlist on shuffle, and listen. the first song that comes up will determine what she is to do. she can interpret the music whichever way she'd like, though she tries to see it through an objective angle. if her mp3 player lands on a gory death metal piece, however, you're probably in for a bad time.
coin flip the good ol' unweighted, unbiased coin flip. for relatively simpler decisions.
magician's deck xi loves cards. the ordinary 52 deck, a set of tarot cards, anything, everything. this is also an interpret-as-you-will system, and a versatile one. maybe she'll simply draw a card from a well-shuffled deck, or give herself/someone else a tarot reading, or throw a hundred cards onto the ground and see what general shape it makes. this system is for a wide range of decisions, simple or complex, depending on how she makes use of it.
more are to be added as time goes on, including those consisting of a random number generator, paint samples, and words/literature.
potential plots - "oh crap i actually like this person a lot and i don't want to risk having to kill them or anything even if this song i'm listening to demands it, which pretty much goes against all my beliefs, what am i going to do"
- making temporary friendships/short term romances and utterly destroying them with no remorse
- being in a hateship
- experiences a multitude of traumatic events that cause her to unhealthily depend on her systems of luck and chance
- sanity declines but no one really notices because she's always been a weird little cookie anyway
- develop paranoia, ptsd, social anxiety, etc. etc. and maybe bi or tripolar disorder but hides it really really well
- realizes that her systems might not be so healthy after all
- will never truly let them go but won't rely so heavily on them
