    FINN DAY

    dauntless-born | 16 | divergent

It sounded as if Sasha, Charlie, and Aubrey were inside of the door, talking in concerned tones. It wasn't until Aubrey burst into tears that he could hear properly, as they all raised their voices a little as well. He wasn't sure where Wesley had gone. As his muddled, beaten thoughts tried to understand what she was saying, Finn felt his weariness linger on his shoulders. He wanted to maybe just lay down.... take a shower.... that would be...

It wasn't until the words 'Julian' and 'kissed' entered the conversation that Finn's head shot up, adrenaline shooting through his system. Her tears were not about her loss. Her tears were about what Julian had done to her. Finn listened in horror, feeling his eyes go wide and his knees nearly gave out underneath him. Julian had tried to rape her? And what had he done? Sat around and chatted it up with a new friend? Finn felt like a wave of ice cold washed over him, drenching him in another round of pain and exhaustion. He had failed Aubrey. Here she was suffering, and he had treated her like she was undeserving of any love- probably confirming her own inner thoughts. He had beaten her with low blows and tricks after she had spent the night crying over what a vile, disgusting boy had tried to do to her. Finn placed his forehead against the door and softly placed his fists on either side, letting out a deep breath. He was going to be sick. Aubrey didn't deserve that. She didn't deserve what Julian or he had done to her. Betrayed by the two boys she thought loved her. He might as well jump off a cliff for all the self-esteem he felt now.

Finn couldn't ignore her pained words or breaths, echoing his own, yet so much more than his at the same time. He had had a bad night, but it had ended well. He had arisen and won his fight today. Aubrey had been beaten down twice and abandoned. He had left her when she needed him most. He supposed he couldn't completely blame himself, but that sure was what he felt like doing. So much for being kind, Finley. He tried to shake away the nagging voice in his head, but it persisted. She loved you and you left her. A great potential boyfriend you are, huh? Coward.

The only thing that cut his thoughts off was the sound of footsteps approaching the door. Finn jerked to the side and hid behind the door as it swung open, revealing Charlie and Sasha. The two ladies looked sad but hopeful. They walked on and away, chatting quietly. Finn assumed they had left Aubrey inside. He gave himself about three minutes to walk in; both to catch his breath and to make sure Aubrey didn't think he'd been standing outside. Listening. Now he knew all that he knew.

As Finn entered, he was a little blown away by just how graceful Aubrey looked. The blood had been mostly washed off, but her ankle was in some kind of brace, her body was bruised and blue, and her eyes looked red and watery. For a moment, he froze, meeting her eyes. What to say? I'm sorry? He wasn't sorry he had won, he thought painfully to himself. He was only sorry he had to have done it in such a way that hurt her. The teenager took a few steps forward before kneeling gently in front of her. He knew he had to look just as bad- maybe minus the watery eyes, but the tears were pricking in his eyes- but he tried not to think about it. His entire body ached and he longed for some good food and a nap, but Aubrey came first. "How... are you feeling?" He asked gently, unsure of what her response would be. Anger? Would she fight him here and now to win back her honor? Or would she try to amend, as he was doing now? While his actions were inexcusable for letting her down, he wanted to make up for it and change now. He loved her.

    HARPER DAY

    dauntless-born | 18 | instructor

It seemed all the initiates were just about done and heading to the lunch room. Harper waved a few of them off, congratulating the victors and side-eyeing the losers. Anyone who was still losing at this point in the initiation might want to reconsider their options. They should be victorious warriors, they had to be. In Dauntless, there was no room for error. After nodding to the last one, Harper called in the clean-up crew and watched as they began to pick up the mats, cleaning the blood off, removing hair and whatever else was on those gross things. Then she turned on her heel and headed to the lunch room herself. She was hungry and wanted to see if she could find Finn again.

    FINN DAY

Finn couldn't help but smile as Aubrey spoke, pain and softness in her tone but no anger. The fact she wasn't still angry with him made Finn release a tension he hadn't known he was holding. His shoulders relaxed, a breath escaped him, a smile graced his features. Her eyes went to her hands and his own followed. Blood. Just like on his own. He raised a hand to gently grip hers and give it a squeeze. His blood on her hands. Her blood on his hands. She continued on to congratulate him, trying to make light of it all. Finn still knew she was lying. Aubrey had wanted to win and was now probably beating herself up mentally for being such a weakling. A loser. She wasn't one, but one's thoughts tend to blow things out of proportion. He brightened at her laughter, seeing hope in her eyes. Despite their bumps and arguments and fights, they would always have each other. Maybe not as close as Finn had once hoped, but for now, he was simply happy to have her here. With him.

Aubrey started to stand, using the brace on her leg to help balance. She paled, but managed to stand. He went to help her but at the barest of motions from her he backed off. Even now the teen could read his friend. She had to do this on her own. Charlie's brace seemed to work very well, and she limped a few steps forward. She began to joke again, Finn taking nervous steps behind her, when she suddenly stumbled. The boy caught her and laughed, feeling her warm, muscular body under his hands. He tried not to think about it and slowly let go as she finished her sentence. Touching her made him feel like things were as they were before, comfortable and at ease.

She gave a sigh and announced she was heading to lunch. Finn eagerly nodded. They could talk over some warm, good food. He wanted his partner back. Whether it was in crime, adventure, friendship, love, whatever, Finn was just happy to have Aubrey back at his side. Although her pained gasps as she limped along were caused by him, his own aching shoulder and face were caused by her. They tore each other down and raised each other up. What mattered was what they became at the end of the day.

He was still worried, despite her statement of being fine. Without a word, he came up beside her to wrap an arm over her shoulder and for her to do the same. It was comforting, being this close. It was quiet between them. At the beginning of initiation, Finn had been as loud as a flock of mockingbirds, always something to say and do and be. Now, he was quiet. The young man had already grown so much from the start, and it was only harder from here. From being Divergent to training to initiation to fighting Aubrey, Finn was a different person now. What would he become? He didn't have too much time to think about it though as Caspian suddenly made an appearance, looking sweaty and panicky. Had someone tried to fight him? What was wrong? Finn gave him an odd look.

Then, suddenly, Caspian was flinching and falling, careening into the wall with a twisted look of pain on his face. Finn had no idea what to do. "Caspian! Caspian!" He exclaimed, letting go of Aubrey to kneel down beside the fallen man. He was breathing weird, sweating, in pain. Was he dying? Heart attack? Finn brushed a sweaty lock from his eyes, panicked. "What's going on? Caspian, what do you need?" He had no idea where Charlie or anyone was that could help. He glanced back at Aubrey with wide hazel eyes, nothing but fear running through his veins. "What do we do?"

    HARPER DAY

    dauntless-born | 18 | instructor

Harper went and ate in the dining hall as well, choosing some fish and lima beans along with a pile of mashed potatoes to eat. She ate with a few acquaintances from her old position as a soldier, and almost found herself missing the job. Being an instructor was amazing, but she wanted excitement and adventure. Here she only got hormonal teenagers and a lot of broken noses. No adventure there. But she was happy for now, at least to keep a close eye on Finn. She had never seen him enter the dining hall, actually, now that she thought about it. Maybe she should find him.

Harper stood and her eyes caught on the clock nearby. Almost time to begin again. She turned back to the eating initiates, all laughing and talking or resting after their fights. Boy were they still in for a busy day. "Initiates! Finish up eating and be back in the training room within the next ten minutes! Anyone late will run thirty laps, so hurry up!" She called, tone firm. Then she turned and headed out.

Sensing that her little brother would seek out Aubrey, Harper headed that way. However, she barely reached the infirmary before coming across a panicking Finn and Aubrey surrounding a collapsed Caspian on the floor. Her eyes widened and she pushed the two kids out of the way to kneel beside her fellow instructor. "Caspian, hey, calm down. Breathe. One of you two go grab Charlie as fast as you can, please!" Harper was nervous since she had no medical training, but her tone was calm and strong. Hopefully one of the two gaping youngsters would get a move on.

    FINN DAY

    dauntless-born | 16 | divergent

Finn wasn't sure what to do, but moved aside as his sister appeared and took charge. She commanded the two of them to find Charlie and get help. Nerves fraying, Finn glanced to Aubrey. She appeared just as clueless, but stammered out that Charlie was not in the infirmary. Finn frowned at the thought. Where on earth could the medic be? Caspian could be dead by the time they got back. But suddenly, his actions were made up for him and Aubrey grabbed his hand. Just like old days, she and he darted away from the scene and down the hall. Only this time it was to find help and not get away from mischief. A small smile made its way onto his face. Memories. Shaking his head, Finn banished the thoughts of his younger self. Now was not the time for that.

As they ran, Finn noticed that Aubrey was still limping a little, her face pained. No amount of painkillers could completely erase what he had done to her ankle just yet. They reached the cafeteria, but there was no Charlie there. Aubrey was getting desperate. The look on her face pained him as she rambled on, trying to figure out where to look. He gripped her hand tighter, but she dropped it quickly. Before he could say anything about it, the two friends were off again to find Caspian again.

To their surprise, both instructors were gone by the time they came back. The infirmary was the obvious place to check. Still no Charlie, but Caspian was looking better. Harper's mouth was set in a firm line as she watched the young man, as if waiting for him to keel over. Caspian waved off Aubrey's questions. Harper turned to the two and ordered them to head back to the training room; there was nothing more they could do here. Finn nodded and the two went on their way.

"I don't know what's wrong, but it's not something normal. He looked bad," Finn responded to his friend, not quite meeting Aubrey's gaze, "I wonder if it's happened before? He should really be watching that if it's gonna be a constant thing. What if it happened during a fight?" His tone was concerned, and he cast a glance back at the two behind them. Caspian was not someone he'd want on his team, maybe, after all.

Finally they reached the training room. Finn couldn't tell what was going to happen next, but began stretching anyways. "Do you think something like that could get Caspian booted? They wouldn't want him doing something that could endanger Dauntless."

    HARPER DAY

    dauntless-born | 18 | instructor

Harper barely noticed as the two rushed off and began to perform CPR on the sickly-looking instructor. Caspian was out of breath and pale, drinking in each breath. Harper straddled her fellow instructor and began to do chest exercises as she awaited him to awaken.

The, finally, Caspian sat up with harsh, gasping breaths. He leaned against his own shaky hand to hold himself up. He looked angry. Harper wondered by on earth an entire watermelon would be causing any type of crime. Caspian gasped upwards, and sat there a moment simply breathing. The young man tried to joke around, but he wasn't completely safe. Caspian's wording made it sound like this happened before. She casted him a look, but then grabbed the meds he needed from Charlie and they continued on to the training room. Looked like, without Ghost here again, she'd be on her own. It was time. "Alright, initiates, listen up! We're trying a new game with these fancy blades here. They don't ever cut, but they can and will make you feel the same amount of pain. Everyone gather so I can explain the rules of this.... fest."A small evil laugh at the end worked, he thought.

"Hey knuckleheads, listen up!" She showered, knowing you're going to be in charge of the upcoming days. Not everyone was here, she noticed, as she stood on a box to get a little ltaller. "Anyone whos' not here within the next minute, stinks to be you."

    FINN DAY

    dauntless-born | 16 | divergent

Finn shook his head at his best friend's words, turning to look back at the other initiates. Were they really at risk of losing Caspian? He hoped not. Being left with Ghost was the worst, even with Harper there to mediate a little bit. Seemed both Day kids were after the man. As Finn stretched, he snuck small glances back at Aubrey. She was putting her hair up, eyes thoughtful. What was she thinking of? It was odd to be here again. They were back together again, chatting and preparing for a fight as if nothing had happened. He felt like a little kid again, the fiery Aubrey always at his side as they schemed their next big fun adventure. Was it okay to be like this again? Was she still upset? If they could merge back together so easily, perhaps they... well, maybe it was meant to be this way. Life was funny like that.

His thoughts went to his Divergency, as they somehow always did. Was him being so easy to forgive an Abnegation trait? Was he being too kind? Dauntless was so power-hungry and cutthroat, and yet here he was making friends and amends with friends. No, certainly that had to be a Dauntless trait as well. No matter who or where you were, being unable to forge relationships and fix them was a trait you had to have. What a sad life it would be without it. Finn ran a hand through his hair, wincing a little as his arm stung. Aubrey had a powerful hit, that was for sure. He turned his gaze to the girl, about to ask how she was feeling, when Harper entered.

A commanding presence as always, his sister had everyone's attention quickly. A game? Finn trailed beside Aubrey as they joined the group growing around his sister, his fingers itching to take her hand. Would she let him? Or would she jerk it away in disgust? He had hurt her, physically and emotionally. The haunted look in her eyes reminded him every time they made eye contact. No matter what they had been or would be, good or bad, they could never forget that fight.

Harper talked on a few moments more, but Ghost's voice behind the group tore everyone's attention away just as quickly. Even Finn whirled about in surprise, wondering when the instructor had entered. Ghost seemed to relish in that fact as he took over explaining for Finn's sister.

“I trust we don’t need another demonstration of how they work?" His tone was innocent, but Finn clenched a fist at the mockery. He hadn't even been expecting the attack, which was a low blow. Ghost was a cheater. Or something. Finn didn't lose to him that easily.

Then, suddenly, everyone was rushing to take knives. Finn grabbed two of his own, losing Aubrey somewhere in the process. He didn't bother looking, knowing he needed to stay focused if he was going to win this free-for-all. The boy let out a quick breath, then suddenly, it had begun. Finn hung out around the border for the time being, dodging bodies thrown about and keeping an eye out for someone to attack. His eyes were drawn to Aubrey as she flipped and stabbed about. Awesome. Beautiful. He couldn't help a smile at the sight.

    HARPER DAY

    dauntless-born | 18 | instructor

Harper gave a pointed look to Ghost as he walked in, late. She tried to fit as much fire in her eyes as she could, only for him to teasingly wish her luck. She rolled her eyes. When did he start to care? If it wasn't for the stressful beginning of the day she might've laughed. Maybe. Probably not.

"Now, these blades will hurt just as much as a regular knife. No funny business, get right to the point and take down whoever you're facing." Ghost quickly took over her own spiel from there, explaining the rules with a few comments here and there. She could remember vividly the lean man using the "dead" body in his own match. She had been furious she was unable to get to him because of it, and that he had thought of such a tactic before her. She pinched the bridge of her nose as he barked at the initiates to get ready and they all flurried off in excitement and fear. She briefly thought about going after her brother but instead stepped over to Ghost.

"You didn't have to cut in, they were listening just fine," She told him coldly. Harper was just as much an instructor as he, but he seemed to think he was ringleading the whole shebang. "I don't remember you doing that when we did this." Harper crossed her arms over her chest and turned to watch the kids get ready.

Just to get a little bit of her control back, Harper called out one lat instruction before they would begin. "Once you have your knives and are ready, everyone line up on the edges of the area and wait until I say go."

The initiates did so, and by the time Harper had even breathed the first consonant of the word they were at each others' throats. Blair went down quickly, with Wesley and Chris going at it nearby. Harper spotted Leah slinking around the edges, awaiting the main bloodshed to be over. Smart. Movement from Ghost finally caught her attention again, and she crossed her arms as he finally took his attention off of his phone to peer at her. He insulted her teaching style, no surprise, before taking an odd picture with his tongue out. Idiot.

Harper was about to retort, something along the lines of her at least holding some respect and maybe even like among the initiates, when Ghost suddenly exclaimed to her to smile, taking a flash picture and darting off before she could react. Harper let out a breathy hiss. He feared her and she knew it, but she couldn't do anything now. He was gone as his namesake said, and the initiates were still busy anyways. With long sigh to calm herself, Harper regained her composure and began to walk slowly around the border, eyes on the initiates and for wherever the antagonist of her life had gone.
