    "jackson!"

the name wrang through the air, a shrill cry that could be heard as you were pulled from the crashing waves of the ocean. you felt your shuddering, soaked form be dragged across the burning sands, and finally you were laid down gently, out of reach from the waters that had ensnared you in their deadly grasp. your lungs flutter as you gasp and fight for breath, and the voices around you blur and meld into simple background noise. you grunt, still coughing up water, and attempt to stand, but you collapse on the ground again. you're wheezing now, forced to close your eyes from the fits that rack your body. suddenly, times seems to slow down, and you grow still, save the slow rise and fall of your flank. a few more fighting breaths, a few moments of panic and then you're released. peace and silence. you're dead.

you awake to the peaceful sound of the ocean crashing upon the beach. you could tell the shore was about a mile away. you sit up with a yawn, blinking, confusion clouding your eyes. where were you? or, the more important question .. who were you? you shake your head; that's when the memories come back. someone calls out a name, you're on a beach, you're dying .. you're dead. it all happened so fast .. had you been reincarnated? you turned around, and that's when you noticed it. your tail. this was impossible. you were a cat after all, werent you? but there it was, glistening in the sunlight - a gray dolphin's tail, with a fin on your back to match. you got to your paws shakily, telling yourself this was m a dream, you needed to be wake up. but you were feeling so dry .. you shook your head and turned in the direction of the ocean.

jackson hummed a tune to himself as he padded along, dismissing his only memories with a flick of his long gray tail. the tuxedo tom knew he should've been grateful he knew basic things, like his name, and his to hunt, and what a clan was, but he just wished he knew more about his past life. for example .. was he part fish before he died? or what had caused him to be that way? he scowled and shook his head. he had to keep his mind on the insignia. after a week's contemplation, he'd decided to join one, despite his .. fishy -pun intended- appearance. his sea green eyes brightened; the insignian scent was strong in that particular spot; the border. jackson paused there, glancing around with a casual smirk on his face. "h'lo?" he called, nose twitching.

the tom licked his lips, curling his long, thick tail around his hind legs - as best he could, really. he'd need to go for a swim soon .. he hadn't touched water for a few hours. the insignia was bound to have a pond, or something, right? "jackson," he responded simply, "here to join .. this is the insignia, right?" his green gaze shifted to the kitten, and he frowned. "i'm a cat, kid," he responded bluntly, though under that bluntness was self-consciousness. he shifted around on his white pass.

jackson shrugged. "home, huh? thanks. i guess." he meowed, allowing a small smile to appear on his maw. he unfurled his tail, holding it up in the air - he didn't like letting it drag. "whelp, now that i got all that out of the way .. do you guys, uh, happen to have any bodies of water or something around here?" he flattened his ears and grinned sheepishly.

jackson had been skirting the borders of the insignia, trying to calculate just how far from the ocean his new clan was, when he spotted a figure up ahead. she didn't smell like a clanmate .. what had he been asked when her gone to join? the tom approached the stranger with a small frown, swishing his dolphin tail around his hind legs. "uh .. name and business?" yeah, that sounded right.

jackson padded into camp, his black and white fur wet due to the nice swim he'd had in this small pond. it wasn't ideal, but it was close enough. humming, he sat down next to the fresh-kill pile, and began to clean his pelt. it was irritating to work around his fin, gills, and tail, but he managed. the eight-moon-old sat up once he'd finished and glanced around with curious sea green eyes.

jackson yawned, looking a bit self-conscious at the question. "uh .. yeah, hah. i actually don't know how, but .. yeah." he shrugged, watching as a few more of his new clanmates trickled in. he stiffened at the nickname, green eyes sparking with a hint of irritation. "yeah, mermaid. ha-ha, haven't heard that one before." he cleared his throat, flattening his ears, immediately regretting his words but too prideful to voice it. "uh, hello everyone. i'm jackson."

"eh? oh, bye then, i guess." jackson couldn't help but smile a little when luciana saluted him; she was pretty adorable. he flinched at feliciano's loud yelling, and turned to face him with a frown. "yeah, still not a mermaid," he meowed with an embarrassed flick of his large tail, cheeks burning, "but hi. i'm jackson, in case you didn't hear."

jackson could hear the ocean before he could see it.

a grin split across his face at the sound of the strong waves crashing into the shore, and he inhaled the salty air. he broke into a sprint, long gray tail trailing behind him, scrabbling down the rocky cliffside on clumsy paws. he managed to reach the sandy shore without any harm coming to him, which was definitely a good thing. and there it was. the pearly blue water glistened in the sunlight moments before it overtook itself and slammed down to the ground below with a mighty roar, before slowly retreating for another wave to take it's place. "haven't seen a beach in ages," jackson murmured to himself, taking off for the water. he dove in without hesitation, closing his mouth tight and flattening his ears as soon as the ocean's waves enveloped his head. after that, his gills took over; they flared up, and a calming cool feeling overtook the tom's body. he breathed in the water deeply, swinging his tail back and forth to swim around in the shallow waters.

jackson enjoyed the feeling of the water rushing ove is black and white pelt, and his fin and tail cutting through the strong current. despite not having to come up for breaths, he liked to poke his head above water occasionally, just to get some of the stinging salt out of his eyes. he noticed a few of his clanmates gathered on the shore and wondered if they knew how to swim. the Tom knew he was supposed to be social in a clan, so he pulled himself out of the ocean and approached them. "uh, hi."

( fishboy haha i love it cx )

jackson stepped out of reach from the waves, his black and white pelt dripping wet and stuck to his large frame. he shook out of fur, droplets of water flying from his tail. he yawned, glad to get in an early morning swim, and began making his way back towards camp. he liked the insignia so far - sure, there was more socializing than he'd preferred, but at least they didn't cast him out as a freak. that was something that he had been scared of happening before he joined.

jackson padded into camp, giving his tuxedo pelt a quick shake. he wished he could just stay in the ocean all day. technically he could, considering he had gills, but he was part of a clan now. he sat down next to the fresh-kill like with a yawn, looking for something to do.

"huh?" jackson rolled his shoulders, turning to look at luciana. he blinked. "yeah, jackson," he responded, flicking his long tail. "and you're .. luciana? the leader or something?" honestly, he'd gotten a bit confused at the stepping down thing, but he was pretty sure that was how it worked.
