One day, Drew Williams, a sixteen year old boy, asked his mother- "Mom, what are you giving me for my eighteenth birthday?" His mom, Riley Williams, looked at him in confusion. "Sweetie, that's many days away. I don't know." Mrs. Williams replied. Drew nodded blankly, still wondering, and jogged up the stairs.
A year later, Mrs. Williams went up to check on her son to see he had fainted. Within an hour, he was in the hospital immediately. His breaths were shallow, and the nurse put a oxygen tube on him. "Miss, I'm afraid your son has a bad heart." the nurse said, not looking at Mrs. Williams, but continued to help Drew's breathe. Mrs. Williams gasped and began to sob hysterically. Her beautiful seventeen year old boy. She ran up to the doctor, and said some things. The doctor nodded, and told her a single thing- "June 14th." Panicked, Drew breathed harder. What was happening? His mother left the hospital later, leaving Drew alone.
June 14th, his mother returned. The doctor lead her in a room and closed a door. Drew cried out for his mother. "No! Stop! Mom!" he screeched, his cries muffled by the oxygen mask. But she didn't come out.
Another year passed. He recovered, and was able to return home. as he opened the door, he saw a note flutter from the table from the gust of wind created by the door. Drew picked it up curiously.
Drew,
If you are reading this, that means everything went well. If not, it means you will join me soon. Remember that time when you asked me what you'd get for your eighteenth birthday? Well, your present is my heart. Literally. I've given my heart to you in a transplant so you could live. I love you more than anything else in this entire blob of sickness and pain we call the world. I love you.
~Mom
Drew felt tears dribble down his face. The paper was soon mixed with dark spots, both his tears and his mothers. "I love you too." he whispered, looking up, tears stinging his eyes. "I love you too...."
