I will survive! Thought the tiny kit as she limped through the forest, leaving a trail of tiny pawprints in the soft earth. Her paws were heavy and her muddy tail dragged along the ground. A cool night breeze blew her bloody fur. I will survive! she repeated in her head as she continued staggering on through the dark forest. She had been walking for days with no food or shelter from the scorching sun or the chilly breezes of night. Once, not long ago, she was warm, in bed with her siblings and mother. She remembered how her father threw her away for being different. For having five toes on her front paws. He attacked her and nearly killed her. She ran away as quickly as she could and found herself in a forest. Her once magnificent and flowing fur became matted with mud and her own blood. I will survive! She repeated as dark clouds covered the moon. Her steps fell slower, her breaths grew quicker. With a giant leap, she scrambled over the fallen trunk of a large tree. I will survive! the path grew rocky and she could feel her senses become dull. She barely noticed the rain pouring down her matted fur. I will survive! Her tiny feet slipped in the mud and she fell to the ground with a tiny squeak and a splash. "I will survive.." she mewed out loud, before slowly closing her eyes and slipping into the darkness of sleep. The last thing she was aware of was the gentle patter of the rain hitting her tiny back.

A loud clap of thunder woke the sleeping kit. She slowly opened one eye and curiously looked around. It was dark out, with the first lights of dawn shining into the cave. She felt warm, and slowly realized that a cat had curled around her. She let out a quiet mew "Who are you?" She asked in a tired, shaky voice.
-
The tiny kit seemed slightly startled by her loving gaze. "I-I'm Frost," She mewed in a voice almost as small as herself. She looked up at Whitedrizzle quietly "And I don't have a home anymore..." She continued, thinking of how her siblings would always tease her. Why is this cat being so nice? she thought
-
Wrapping her tail around her front paws she looked down slightly, expecting to be attacked again. "My name is Frost." She said, trying to be a little louder and failing miserably. She shyly licked a bloody scratch on her shoulder to cover up her fear. Show no fear Her mother's words echoed in her head. They can smell fear.
-
She winced slightly as her cuts were cleaned "Clan?" she questioned the cat "What's a Clan?"
-
Tilting her head to the side, she looked at the cat with a curious expression "Fadekit?" she asked quietly "What's wrong with my old name?"
-
Her whiskers quivered "Can my name be Frostkit then?" she asked, her blue eyes glittering in the light of the rising sun. "That way I have my name and not be a lone kit." Her whiskers quivered quietly in fear of her idea being rejected.
-
"I think so.." Shakily, Frost rose to her feet and stumbled along. Although it hurt, she wouldn't let another cat see any weakness.
-
"My mother didn't leave me," She mewed quietly as they ran through the forest. "My father chased me out.." Looking at her paws, she gazed at them sadly. Why couldn't I have been like my siblings? she thought Why did I have to be born with five toes on my front paws? She let her whiskers droop in sadness, remembering how they would always tease her about her small size and her strange paws.
-
"Please call me Frostkit" The tiny kit begged. It was the only thing she had left to remind her of her mother. "They can't look for me!" She mewed desperately "He'll kill them! He said he would kill any cat that went to help me. That's why I came here..." after a brief pause she looked into Whitedrizzle's eyes, begging her silently It's the only thing of her's I have left...
-
"What's wrong?" Frost mewed, slightly frightened.
-
She eyed the she-cat curiously as they came near the camp. She licked her tangled fur, trying to look her best. Licking her paw, she brought it up to wash her dirty face and then turned to lick her tail.
-
Frost's eyes widened and she sunk to the ground. Realizing the cat was playing, she calmed down slightly and gave him a curious glance. "Who are you?" she said, tilting her head to the side. Her tail twitched slightly. I wonder how many cats live here she thought
-
She looked at him as he set her down. "How many other cats are here?" she mewed quietly, turning to finish grooming her tail. She was mostly clean now, except for her scratches and her once fluffy plume of a tail.
-
She gazed hungrily at the rabbit. "Really? For me?" she asked, a shocked expression on her face.
-
She purred as she ate the rabbit. My siblings would never let me have a whole rabbit to myself! She thought in amazement as she finished the rabbit. Her paws ached as she walked slowly over to the two cats and curled next to them. Her fluffy tail wrapped around her paws as she drifted into sleep.
-
She mumbled something quietly before opening one eye slowly. "Huh?" she asked, half awake. Giving a yawn, she rubbed her ears and licked her sore paws.
-
She mewed with discomfort and sat awkwardly on the floor, silently watching her new mother and the medicine cat. She turned and licked her tail, which she seemed to have a habit of doing when she got nervous.
-
She winced at the remarks of the other kit. Sitting down on the floor, she quietly looked at the dusty ground. Why are the other kits so mean to me.. "I'm Frostkit.." She mumbled.
-
She glanced at the kit. You're probably just like him! I bet you're all like him! She thought. "Um, Hi?" She mewed.
