"I say we find out more about the place, y'know, like the food and what the heck is even in all those massive buildings." Hyla said- a bit louder than he should have, considering not everyone in the room was awake- as he followed Ryouta to the stairs.
Despina stood across the street from the building, staring in irritation at the cross-walk sign as the bustling traffic whizzed by. When it finally changed, she dashed hastily across the road, halting at the building's entrance. She looked up nonchalantly, trying not to attract any attention, and scanned the windows. With a sigh of frustration, she was way too low to see anything properly. It might look suspicious if she followed them in after having stood here so long, so she strolled a couple of feet away and sat down against the wall, still eyeing the door. In all honesty, she wasn't entirely sure what she was going to do, she'd never really hunted down-let alone captured- a band of "troublesome" kids before, and she was beginning to doubt she'd be able to manage on her own, as much as she wanted to. She pulled the poster out of her pocket and smoothed it out on her leg. There was a phone number, but she wasn't sure she wanted to call it yet. These guys could be trying to con her, and she wanted to be sure to have the kids securely in her control before she let these guys stroll in. If they were involved in the capture, she might not get her reward. She shoved the paper back into her pocket, and slouched back against the wall with an inward sigh.
(Sorry for the short post, kind of busy because of school. 8l )
"Yup, sounds good." Hyla said, opening the first door with a creak. He looked around, squinting in the dark. It didnt look like anyone had been here recently; the room was a bit of a mess, at least compared to the lab's pristine standards. There was a bed, stained looking couches, and some sort of table. He walked over to it, noticing that there was an oval-shaped section in the middle that wasn't as worn looking as the rest. He figured there must have been something there, and someone had come in and taken it recently. The rest of the room appeared undisturbed. Hyla walked over to the limp looking green curtains, and pulled them aside, letting a bit more light into the room. The sun had gone down, but there were lights glowing in almost every building, and street lamps illuminating the streets. The view was breathtaking com up here, and he couldn't suppress a grin. He couldn't believe how long the labs had kept this place hidden from them. He glanced down briefly, noticing someone with blue hair sitting against the wall. He raised an eyebrow; he recalled having seen her earlier. She didn't seem to be trying to break in, so he figured it was probably coincidence. He stepped away from the window, drawing the curtains shut again before moving on to the next room. They all seemed more or less identical, with the occasional different coloured bedspread. He kept noticing the less-worn spots on furniture. It looked like quite a few things had been taken, likely whatever stuff of value had been left in the rooms. Considering it all appeared to be gone now, he doubted anyone would be breaking in to rob the place.
Hyla swung around the corner at the top of the stairs as the others walked up. "There's a weird little metal thing in one of these rooms, apparently it's called a toaster." He said, pointing down the hall with a grin, making sure to keep his voice down a bit more this time.
Despina rested her head against the brick wall, allowing her eyes to drift close momentarily. She didn't have a problem with sitting out here all night, she spent most of her nights away from home anyway. In fact, she was beginning to think the streets felt more homely than any foster home she'd been in. Her reputation wasn't exactly that of someone you'd want to mess with, so most of the other night walkers left her be. Those that didn't usually regretted it. She opened her eyes to look up at the windows again. If these kids gave her any trouble, they'd be regretting it too.
(I'm also sorry for the short post... gotta get to bed ;n; )
Vulpes clenched her jaw, relieved, but unavoidably irritated. "Tacos. Sounds great." She hissed through gritted teeth, pushing herself up against the wall to face Karma. "Maybe with a side of blood instead of salsa." She wheezed, less humour in her tone than suggested by her words. She opened her mouth to ask how they'd escaped, but her breath hitched in her throat and she began to cough violently, sliding further down against the wall.
"Don't... call me that." Vulpes wheezed, gasping for breath between coughs. She could taste the blood staining her teeth, and felt it dripping like molasses down her jaw. Her body was shaking uncontrollably again, the iolent bouts of coughing bringing tears to her still blurry eyes. She was beginning to panic, she felt so frustratingly helpless, unable to breathe or move or do anything else with her well-being in mind. Not wanting to attract attention, Vulpes struggled to compose herself; her chest felt as if it were collapsing in on her tightening lungs, and she was breathing in short, wheezing gasps, choking on blood, her head spinning from the lack of air. She bit down hard on her lower lip, she absolutely hated her state of vulnerability right now.
(If you don't mind I'm going to have her stay awake, otherwise I can't post o3o Gotta go to school right now but I'll post when I'm home, sorry!)
Vulpes opened her eyes, blood boiling and vision watery. There were white lights glaring into her eyes, and the room was silent. Her vision began to shift into focus; white walls, metal, pristine, cold- it was a lab. Her heart stopped, and she began looking around wildly, wincing at the lingering pain in her neck. She noticed tubes running from her arm into a machine standing beside her bed. Not a lab, a hospital. She let out a shaky breath; still not good. Her anatomy was halfway between human and fox, with her canine-esque face, her ears and tail and apparently her wings, there was no way they'd let her out of this place. She had to get out, she had to get out now. Vulpes sat bolt upright, only to feel herself thrown back down again as her arms jerked violently back; she was hand cuffed to the bed. For a few heated moments she layed there, eyes blazing. She was in bondage again, back in the authorities' clutches, strapped to what she was beginning to believe was a dissection table. Beginning to panic again, she looked around. The room was large, white and empty. There was one entrance, a heavy looking metal door with a large combination, padlock looking thing. There were a few shining metal counters at the back, with glass cabinets full of vials and tools above them. It was too much like the School. She needed out.
"Let me out of here!" Vulpes screeched, blood dripping from her jaws again. "Let me out, you lunatics!" Her anger was consuming her, fists clenched right against her handcuffs as she struggled to push free. Her memories of getting here were blurry, but she couldn't believe she'd gone along with it. "Last time I'm relying on anyone else to save me." She breathed, eyes cold like a predator's. "I said let me out now, you cruel, insensitive, sadistic little freaks!" She shouted, teeth bared and her nose wrinkled in a fierce snarl. As likely as it was that the well-secured room was soundproof, she refused o lay here idly and comply with their inhumane containment. And, if there were video cameras, she wanted to give the people behind them one hell of an idea of what went on in these rooms.
She leaned forwards, jaws snapping at the handcuffs. They were metal, no way of chewing through them, and no way of getting through that door without the pass code, even if she could free herself. And she was damn sure she was going to get herself out of this one: no more damsel in distress. Her eyes raked the room. There were sharp, mildly disturbing looking tools on one of the counters beside the door. If she could get across the room to them, she could probably manage to pick the cuffs open. Her feet had been left free, but the heavy strap across her stomach would prevent her from standing up. Fine, if she couldn't walk on two legs, she'd go with the next best thing: all fours. Before taking any action, she looked around the room. There were cameras. If she was going to make a move, she'd have to make it quick, or they'd have someone rushing into to stop her before she could even begin to try to figure out the lock combination. Right, the door... That was a while other dilemma. Anger still fresh in her mind, she decided that once she was free she'd let them come to her. There were more than enough weapon-like objects in here, but she was dying to drag her teeth through the skin of whatever despicable people decided to blow up an entire building to catch a few kids. She took a deep, shaking breath, staring blankly at the empty walls, counting down in her head. This was taking a big risk, but the situation justified it in her mind. She had to escape, to do that she'd need to hurt people, they deserved it, and she was capable. All that was left was a perfect execution. She tightened her muscles, and jerked her body violently to the left, over and over, metal crashing in her ears until it began to tip.
Vulpes braced herself as she collided with the floor, crushed under the weight of the bed. The tubes had been torn out of her arm, the machines on the life support system were emitting blaring alarms as she struggled to push herself up. The dizziness was coming back, whatever they had done to her, they hadn't accounted for the blood loss. She dragged herself across the white ceramic tiles towards the counter, and propped the bed up against it with a pain staking twist of her shoulders. She reached for something like an exacto knife with her teeth, and once she had a firm bite on it, twisted herself towards the cuffs. They were fairly easy to let open, and before long she was free. Expression cold and calculating, she took a stand in front of the door, sirens wailing all around her. She could feel the footsteps pounding down the hall, and her instincts began kicking in. This was her hunt, and her prey was running straight into her trap. Her muscles were tense, braced to tear whoever walked through that door ino the sorry shreds their ethics resembled. All there was to do now was wait.
(Sorry for any typos, on my phone.)
(Crud I typed a lot again. Sorry guys D: I can't control it...lol.)
"I tried pushing the lever thing but it doesn't do anything." Hyla said with a shrug, leaning against the counter a few feet away. "I'm gonna get some sleep. See ya." He said with a grin, and left the room. He opened the door across the hall; no different from the other rooms, besides the lack of a toaster. He dropped onto the bed, resting the back of his head on his hands. He still wasn't all too tired; the andrenaline hadn't quite worn off from the insane chase through the fire earlier. Despite the off-putting memory, he couldn't help but grin. They'd all managed to escape it, and the outside world was a million times more awesome than he could've ever imagined.
Vulpes's ears twitched as the combination pad emitted a few electronic beeps. The seal on the door slid outward and twisted open, and the door was pushed open slowly. They would likely have guns, she realized, tranquilizers maybe. Thinking quickly, she pulled resell on to the counter next to the rntrance as the metal door slid open slowly with a hiss. As soon as the first officer set foot in the room, pointing his gun and looking quickly in the opposite direction, Vulpes body slammed him from behind, grabbing his gun and spinning to face him, panting from the strain on her injuries. She held the gun pointed at the door, and the guards behind dared not move. "So do these things kill?" She croaked, throat sticky with blood. The officer stared, hands over his head, and didn't reply. Frustrated, Vulpes pressed the gun against his forehead. "If you're not going to tell me, maybe I'll just assume they don't. But you wouldn't have that look on your face if you had a petty little tranquilizer gun against your head, would you?" She growled, voice low and menacing. Her body was shaking, and she could feel herself growing dizzy again as she struggled to keep her balance. The officer opened his mouth to reply, but could only stutter incoherently. Vulpes shifted her attention to the officers behind him. "And if these were tranquilizers, you would have shot me by now, because you wouldn't have been as afraid as you are now about missing and hitting this friend of yours." Her gaze was unwavering, despite her unsteady disposition. "I'd suggest you all back away right now and let me out of this place." She wrapped her arm around the officer's neck, sill pointing the gun against his temple with her other hand, finger on the trigger. "Or I'll shoot." Vulpes could feel her hostage's sweat dripping onto her skin; he was shaking and terrified. Funny how guns did that to people. The second officer in line had begun to take and few steps back, only to bump Ito his colleague. Vulpes followed on shaking legs, teeth bared and stained with the blood that was still dripping from her mouth. The other gun holders were pressed against the wall, weapons aimed at her. "You can stop pointing those a me now. In fact, make that an order." She hissed, earning something like a whimper from her hostage as she pressed the barrel harder against his head. One by one the officers placed their guns on the floor, slowly raising their hands above their head. "Much better." Vulpes breathed, continuing to sidestep down the narrow hallway until she reached the door. She stopped to slide another gun across the floor with we foot, and picked it up in her other hand. With one gun against the mans forehead and the other pointed at the door, she kicked it open. Quickly she turned her head to the exit, there were more officers, all pointing guns at her. As soon as she had turned her attention away, those on the other end of the hall picked up their weapons as well, and she was surrounded on each side. She made sure to shield the right side of her body with the hostage, and kept her free gun pointed at the officers at the door. She was losing her patience. "Listen. You're letting me out of this hell hole right now or I'll shoot."
Des piña snapped out of her dazed half sleep. She was still leaning against the wall near the door, and she'd heard the door knob turn. "Hey, you!" She shouted, shooting to her feet. "What do you think you're doing?" She sauntered up to the man, determined not to let share the reward. She needed cash, and she wasn't one for teams.
Hyla stretched as sunlight filtered through the curtains. He'd never slept so comfortably before, this run down building felt like luxury to him. He stood up, brushing his hair out of his face. It was straight enough that it never really got tangled, it would just fall into his eyes sometimes. He poked his head outside the door; he could hear voices from the other room. He was still a bit drowsy, he'd stayed up late last night, subconsciously worrying that if he fell asleep he'd wake up back in the lab and this all would have been a dream. Considering it didn't seem to e, he was in a particularly good mood this morning.
"Morning," Hyla said with a grin. "Yeah, these beds are a billion times better than cages." He added, seemingly unbothered by the memory. "What's the plan for the day?"
"Well then we have a problem." Despina said, crossing her arms. "Because as it happens I was planning to look around as well, and I don't think I want you around." He said as-a-matter-of-factly, expression threatening. "Oh, and by the way, I don't care if you're not here to fight me, because I'm not here to have someone get in my way. And I'm definitely not here to go changing my mind." She said. Despina supposed she had become a bit brash when it came to picking fights, but this one would pay for itself in cash if she could catch those kids. She recalled the poster in her pocket, and the phone number. "And I've got backup to call in if I need it, however unlikely. So what's it going to be?" She asked, pushing herself into the mans path.
"You guys hear something?" Hyla asked with an absent minded yawn.
"Oh, I will." Despina shouted after him, gritting her teeth as she flew swiftly up the stairs after him. She was not about to lose out on this jackpot. She was dying to shout after him, but if the kids heard anything they might make a break for it down a different stairwell. There was no way she was letting them out of this that easily.
Despina sprinted after the strange man, and first opportunity she got, slammed him into a wall, ignoring the gun he was shooting at the kids. "You are not getting anywhere near those kids, do you hear me?" She shouted, grinning slyly as an idea crept into her mind. She would have to play it as if she were on their side.
Hyla, still a bit drowsy from sleep, dodge at last second as a gunshot went off. "Oh sh-" He began, only to become suddenly alert and take off after the others as fast as possible. This was not fun; guns were never fun, it was hard to outrun a bullet. He leapt forwards, grabbing the windowsill in his hands and pushing himsel through without second thought. He missed the ladder, and landed a bit clumsily on the surface below. He looked around wildly for the stairs, wrote glancing back to make sure everyone was out of the building. They couldn't get split up again like the last time, that had nearly ended in disaster.
Despina left promptly, hopping out the window and hurrying down the ladder. She was tense, if he played her cards wrong here the kids could easily run off. "It's okay. He's gone." She called, a bit nonchalantly.
(Sorry for the short post I'm in a bit of a rush. :P)
"Jeez-" Despina hissed, cursing under her breath as she half ducked, half stumbled out of the way, catching herself on the concrete barrier on the edge of the roof. "Watch it." She said curtly, struggling to keep her cool. "I saw you come in here and it's a bad part of town." She said, improvising. "I know the guys around here, and I figured a few little kids wouldn't last long without some back up. But that dog of yours looks like it wants to live up to the part." She added, keeping her distance. There was something wrong with these kids; she was beginning to think they might be more than just 'trouble'.
Hyla wandered up to stand just behind Ryouta, one eyebrow raised. He flicked his hair out of his face as he spoke. "Bodyguards? That's new." He joked, though he was clearly still tense and braced to run if the situation arose.
Despina instinctively whipped her hands up to grab at the arm around her throat, scowling curse words under her breath as the dagger brushed her knuckles. Any other time, a headlock like this would've been easy to escape, but her street encounters had never involved much foul play with weapons. She suddenly felt something pierce the skin on her neck, and fought the urge to swing a punch at this insane woman's face. Turning around now would leave her with a slotted throat. She clenched her teeth, hissing profanities. As soon as she felt the girl's grip loosen, she scrambled free, spinning around only to see that she had disappeared. Thinking quickly, she spun and pushed herself up onto the window sill, grabbing the unconscious man's gun off the floor inside before turning to face the roof again. She cocked the gun, and pointed it back and forth across the roof as she skirmish continued. "You should listen to what people tell you, kids. Because I told you this was a bad part of town." She said, the corner of her mouth twitching into a tense grin. "And you just made it a hell of a lot worse." She didn't want to trouble herself any more than she had to. Clearly the poster-makers knew what they were talking about when they said trouble. Despina had never held, let alone fired a gun before, but she'd seen it done, and something about the sensation of power it evoked was appealing to her. "Listen, I think we'd best come up with an arrangement here, before someone wakes up and comes looking for his gun." She shouted into the fray, hands shaking a bit; she could feel blood dripping from her neck. It was rare that anyone lasted long enough in a fight against her to draw blood. "And I doubt he'll appreciate if it's out of ammo." She added, mostly for effect. She'd have to pull out a new level of threatening here, she realized, staring in shock and horror at the winged... thing... as one of the kids brought it down. There was too much crazy crap going on here; she had to be dreaming. And it didn't count as murder if you fired a gun in a dream.
(Sorry for any typos and stuff, still on my phone :c )
(Crap I really didn't mean to type that much. Had to Frankenstein a few posts together... sorry D: )
Hyla looked around. As far as he could see on this level of the roof, the window was the only way out. He dashed over to one end of the building. It was about a fifteen foot drop to another roof top. "Sho, this way." He called back, noticing that Despina was wielding the gun. He hated guns, they were hard to outrun, especially when you were scaling rooftops a hundred feet off the ground. He leaned a bit further over the edge, as if to test the distance. "I'll go first, if you can't fly down I'll catch you." He said tersely. "Here goes nothing." With that, he pushed off the ledge with his hands and landed hard on the surface below, forgetting about his bandaged foot. "Damn," He hissed as his knees buckled momentarily. Hearing the fight going on above him, he sprang as quickly as he could to his feet and spun around. "Come on, it's not as far as it looks." He shouted up, breathing a bit heavy from the renewed pain in his ankle. He really needed to get used to this whole injury deal.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What about the other two?" He asked, the pain beginning to subside. He looked around; there was a bright red door nearby labelled "emergency". He motioned towards it and went to check it out. It was a narrow stairwell, with several exit signs. "Bingo." He said with a small, tense smile, and wave to Sho.
