He does help out in the clan, he was in both of those raids the empire set up. He will fight if he wants to, but if he gets no respect while doing it, what's the point? If he were to lose Teddy and just 'focus' he would probably be way more angry without anything to hug, because that bear was pretty much the thing that kept him calm, because without it he is an extremly angry cat.
